I decided to do just this and it's worked out brilliantly. I'm one series into my first ever viewing and loving the naturalism and wit (even if the nose-picking and food in beards and toilet humour have mostly stopped me snacking as I watch, queasy chops that I am).I've laughed out loud more than I usually do when watching a sitcom. It's wonderfully cast and perfectly written and the way it's filmed in real time without a laugh track and from a fly on the wall perspective is endlessly fascinating. There's a real heart to this, and I enjoy how unabashedly working class and unpretentious it is. It feels immediately lived-in and comfortable.. and recognisable. And the way each line and each look is so perfect and precise. The Brookie connection is tangible. I've re-read both these articles this morning and they'v e already added to the experience. As I watched Series One I was reminded of Gogglebox (which is strange because I've never watched - nor wanted to watch - Gogglebox itself beyond a few trailers) but once again I'd forgotten about The Family being an inspiration and now I can completely get that. Abigail's Party being an inspiration for Caroline Aherne's writing can also be seen in this series, I think.
