A long black limousine pulls up to the barricaded entrance to the Wade Ranch. Two heavy Hummers and a dozen military looking security guards block the entrance. One of the men carrying an M16 knocks on the back glass window. It lowers. Charlotte appears. “What’s going on?” “The Wade and Southfork Ranches have been secured ma’am. May I help you?” “I’m here to see my niece, Jolie.” “Is she expecting you?” “No. I haven’t been able to get her on the phone. Is she here.” “I’m afraid we can’t tell you that ma’am. We can call up to the house for permission to drive you up.” “Drive me up? My driver can’t do that?” “No ma’am.” A man whispers in his ear. “You’ve been confirmed as Charlotte Wendell. Her Grace will all you to be exported up. Please exit your car. We have female security to pay you down. Is there anything you’re bringing with you?” “Pat me down. Down be ridiculous. I’m not being patted down.” “Then we will have to ask you to leave.” “Listen to me. This is my niece’s home. I am going up there to see her.” “Yes ma’am. Please exit the car.” “Well as she’s answering your calls, get her on the phone.” “I can’t do that. Besides her Grace isn’t changing protocol no matter what you say to her. Now we can see you safety up to the house or you can leave of your own free will. Or we’ll be happy to remove you from the property.” A moving truck pulls down the Southfork Driveway followed by a limousine. Security and Lucy meets it out by the garage. Pamela sets out the back of the car and says, “Is all this necessary?” “Yes,” Lucy answers. Pamela’s two sons get out from the other side of the car. Colin says, “It’s like a military base.” Lucy adds, “They’re build a road between Southfork and the Wade Ranch. For the most part we’re confined to the property but when we leave we have security assigned to us.” Pamela says, “I saw they’ve taken over the offices of Ewing Oil.” “You know as well as anyone what we’re up against.” Lucy takes her arm and walks her up to the house. We’ve got security for the security.” “And Jay’s staying on the ranch?” “They thought it best while their working in Washington.” “So raising another kid.” “Something like that. I love having him around. By the way Colin, Lucas has a bunch house for you. Apparently you wanted to stay with the ranch hands.” “Yes. That’s what John Ross does. Gets up. Has his morning meetings. Have breakfast. Then works on the ranch. No reason you can’t do the same thing.” Pamela laughs, “Just been the three of us for a long time, not use to this sort of thing.” “Thirty days to make a habit.” Up at the pool they see Karin swimming. “Ya’all remember Karin Lee, Amy’s cousin?” The three of them agree. Pamela asks, “She still living in the guest house?” “Yes. That’s why I couldn’t give it to you. Logan, I hope you don’t mind staying in Ray’s old place. Give you some privacy and it’s rather nice, close by.” “No. Not at all. Thank you.” “Then we’re all settled. Pamela, I’ve emptied out Uncle Bobby’s old room. It was my grandma’s dads room, then Teresa used it, and my grandmother when she moved back to Southfork and had trouble getting up stairs and then JR. She says she can fell the presences of the masters of Southfork in their. Plus it lets her come and go unnoticed. She keeps strange hours. John Ross put a runway in just for her. She might fly in, in the middle of the night.” “Really? From where?” “God knows. She flies like most people drive.”
