Episode 5

Jay sits with Adrian on the front porch of the hunting lodge. “I decided I’m gonna build a new house here on South Fork. I was thinking, if you like, you could move in with me.”

“No. I’m sure it’ll be a pretty big place with lots of people in and out. I’d rather stay here.”

“If you’re sure. . . . . . . . . I was thinking we could form a business together, a cyber security kind of thing.”

“No thank you.”

“Really?”

“Thank you Jay, but I’m not interested. If you want to do it, I’ll help you pull together the people.”

“Thank you. Maybe I will.”

After a long span without a word said Adrian says, “What a beautiful evening.”

“Yes. Yes it is.”

Pamela walks through the gardens of the Swiss estate they’ve been renting, clipping flowers. She sees an older, darker man standing security and she quickly puts down the flowers to hug him. “Ali! Sorry, Frank. Thank you for coming.”

“Ahmad.”

“Oh yes that’s right. I forgot. Each time you die you change your name. It’s hard to keep track,” age says looking into the face of her father’s go to man, Frank, and his big smile.

“You needed to see me.”

“Yes.” We haven’t actually seen each other face to face in such a long time. It’s Elena. I want you to find out what her will says, if she’s got one. If she doesn’t, we’ll need to create one or if it’s wrong, we’ll need to change it.”

“To make sure everything goes to Steven?”

“Of course.”

“How are you doing Pamela?”

“Picking flowers for Jenny. They’ll be here this evening.”

“Have you decided what to do about Paul working for Elena?”

“Not yet. It makes me sick.”

“Of course it does.”

“Jenny’s been giving away all my fathers money. They’re naming the children’s hospital after him and the Baptist University of Forth Worth and a new wing of the art museum. The Braddock Country Club hung his portrait among their most honored members as the Ambassador to Afghanistan. He’ll be the biggest name in Dallas.”

“I think he already is.”

“And thanks to Jenny’s help; she’s also been lobbying the Ewing foundations’ boards, not only to merge them but for the merged name to be the Barnes Ewing Foundation.”

“Well as you’re father use to say, the victor writes history as it benefits himself.”

“Cliff Barnes won, didn’t he? He even got JR’s son to put him in a wonderful home to live out the rest of his life.”

“That was you who got John Ross to do that. I’m glad you’ve forgiven him. He’d be very proud of you.”

“I did it so my boys can be proud of him. So, how’s Jay doing?”

“The information I placed in front of him about Banning worked, extremely well. He sold the company to Ewing Industries for am impressive profit. And now he’s working with that hacker I put in touch with him.”

“And no idea you played a role in any of it?”

“No idea who I am.”

“That’s good. And Elena trusts you?”

“She trusts Frank as Cliff’s go-to man. The guy who took his own life to protect Pamela.”

“You’re the reason JR Ewing was worried about Cliff Barnes.” Pamela grins from ear to ear.

“Well, Elena doesn’t think I’m a very good shot as Ellie was barley hurt, but she trusts me.”

“I couldn’t have you kill my sister-in-law. We’ll I guess I could have as my children are here sole heirs. Which not only hasn’t changed but according to you, they’re now Anthony Cumson’s heirs.”

“Well, I don’t know if that’ll remain. He went into the marriage, not expecting children, but a real marriage, to be a part of the Ewing family.”

“And?”

“Ellie doesn’t exactly act like marriage is anything more than a legal agreement.”

“I’ll work on that.”

“Elena want’s me to try again, but this time to find someone else to do it.”

“What’s your plan?”

“Ellie will be safe.”

“You’ve taken such good care of my family.”

“Your father took such good care of my family. I owe him, everything, like a father.”

Pamela hugs Frank again. “You’re my only real brother.”

Still holding each other, Frank says, “Now you’re not believing that story are you?”

“Of course. It’s true.”

A tear falls down his face. “When you signed over all your father’s . . .”

“Our father’s,” she corrects him.

“Our father’s foreign investments, I knew I was. You know I’d do anything for you.”

“I know you would. And I’d do anything for you . . . Ali.”

Bo says to Bobby over breakfast by the pool, “Things are certainly quite around here.”

“I know,” Bobby says. “Jay’s not even been around. I heard he’s got a new idea for another company. Something about cyber security.”

“Really? He’s awfully young to be putting together such big business deals, isn’t he?”

“I suppose so. He has his grandpa’s knack.”

“Something I didn’t inherit.”

“What do you mean?”

“A lot of bad investments.”

“You’ve lost money?” Bobby asks.

“Pretty much everything my father left me.”

“I’m sorry. Your Uncle Gary had a lot of trouble over the years managing money.”

“It’s depressing when you get to the point you’ve got to start selling your stuff.”

“Yeah Gary got there too.”

“And you have to realize the woman were only interested in one thing.”

“Yep. Many of them are. Took your Uncle a long time to figure that out. Is there something I can do to help?”

“Wanna buy a bunch of Florida swamp land?”

“Not really.”

“I literally own a bunch of Florida swamp land I was trying to protect.”

“I could talk to some people with the different family foundations. That’s one of their purposes, to protect land. They might buy it from you.”

“Are you serious?”

“Yes. All told they own about two million acres in the U.S.; some if it’s used by Ewing Industries ranching businesses, like South Fork. But, the foundations all have a goal to preserve the land first and foremost. Some of its even timber land, they manage the lumber crop while protecting virgin timber. If they think the land you’ve got has value that should be preserved, they might buy it. They’ve been buying land down in South America recently. As a matter of fact, Pamela bought a lot of swamp land down in Brazil to form a biological reverse.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, a lot of swamp land?”

“So maybe I can unload it.”

“You certainly might be able to get something out of it.”

Pamela fixes her makeup at the vanity in the bedroom when John Ross comes out of the bathroom in a towel. “John Ross, at Ewing Industries you’ve got portraits of your dad and grandfather, right?”

“In the board room. And Uncle Bobby.”

“And when you retire, your portrait will go up?”

“Yes. Why?”

“Will Jay follow you?”

“I’m not sure. He might. The way he’s going. If he wants it.”

“What about my father?”

“Cliff? No. Why?”

“Well, Much of what is Ewing Industries came from Barnes Global.”

“Companies Rebecca Wentworth put together from her husband Herbert’s tool and die business.”

“Well maybe my grandmother should be on the wall as well.”

“You’re not serious are you?”

“Yes. If Jay does run the company some day, wouldn’t it be nice for him to have both grandfathers on the wall? My father certainly has had as much to do with the history of the company as your father and uncle.”

“I don’t know.”

“In fact my father was a bigger part of the current company than your father and grandfather, including having run Ewing Oil for so long.”

“Is this what you want?”

“Yes it is.”

“Alright. Get me a picture of him and I’ll turn it into a portrait for the wall in the boardroom to follow Uncle Bobby.”

“Thank you.”

“Of course.” He kisses her cheek. “As long as you’re happy.”

“I am. Very happy. This place makes me happy. I know. I know. We’re going to go back home. And I know our place in Idaho is wonderful too. But I like it here.”

“And Ellie’s place in Switzerland is two and a half hours away.”

“I like your sister. I just like having our own place too.”

“Well that’s good.”

“And I like this place.”

“That’s very good.”

“It is?”

John Ross leans over and kisses her check. “Yes it is . . . Because I bought this place for you.”

“You did?” Pamela jumps up and hugs him. “Oh John Ross. That’s absolutely perfect. I’m so excited. Thank you. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. I do want to stop in the Grenadines on the way home. There’s an island I want to take a look at. If you don’t mind.”

“No of course not. Thank you so much. Thank you.”

“Of course.”

“You know we do need to talk about your sister.” Pamela turns serious again.

“Ellie? Why? What about her?”

“Her marriage. I don’t think she sees marriage like Anthony does and I think Paul’s gonna get hurt. I arranged for Jay to buy ten acres of South Fork from the foundation for his own house. His idea. Not mine. And I think maybe we should encourage Ellie to build her own house on the ranch and actually have a real marriage where they live together.”

“What do you know, that I don’t.”

“Nothing. You know she’s jet-setting all over the world and he’s busy working in Dallas. You can figure it out as well as I can.”

“I’ll talk to Anthony.”

“If I’m wrong, I’ll admit it.”

John Ross kisses her cheek again.

John Ross and Pamela walk down stairs to find Paul and Jenny being let in the front door. Pamela says, “Welcome, welcome.”

Jenny says, “Whatever you’re cooking smells fantastic.” The two hug and the guys shake hands.

In the living room the four gather for drinks, sitting facing the fireplace and chatting. John Ross excuses himself to get some more soda and Jenny asks him to show her the bathroom on the way. Once they’re gone, Pamela’s jovial manner turns deadly serious. “Elena Ramos?” Paul attempts to speak. “No. You had a fine job. You’ve got a good marriage. Great kids. You throw it all away for Elena Ramos.”

“I’ve got an opportunity to build my own business. I’m not giving that up.”

“You mean Elena’s business. I’ve given you a lot of leeway. You were raised by Jeremy Wendell, without a family. You didn’t grow up knowing we even existed. And our mother certainly hasn’t been much of a mother, even now. No matter how much we try to include her in our lives.”

John Ross walks back into the room and talk of Elena is drops. Pamela acts as if they’ve been talking about Jay starting up a new company, GCS.

Jay throws a party in a penthouse overlooking Dallas. Greg says over the music, “Another epic party.”

“What do you think of the apartment? Part private office, part bachelor pad, part party hang out.”

“It’s sweet dude. Twenty-one and you’re like king of the world.”

Jay laughs at his cousin who’s more than a bit drunk. “Seriously though. How’s it going? School?”

“I don’t know man. I need to follow your lead and drop out. It’s too much man.”

“You’re good at school. You’re gonna be a doctor.”

“Seriously man. I can’t do this. Do you know what they want out of you. Twenty-four seven. They want my soul man. My soul. Shit man look at them.” The two of them look at two girls and two guys snorting lines of coke off the coffee table. “I want her.”

“Go take her to one of the bedrooms.”

“It’s not that easy for me like it is for you. You just take her hand and she’s gonna sleep with you. Oh plus Lesly. She’s here some where.”

“She’s probably up stairs with another guy or ten. Come on cuz. I’ve warned you about her. Give up on her.”

“She’s my girlfriend. She gives me sex.”

“Don’t make a big deal out of this.” Jay approaches the two girls making out. “Excuse me. Can I speak with you?” He takes the one girl’s hand and leads her over to Greg. “This is my cousin Greg. He wants to have sex with you. Would you mind going with him?”

“Sure.” She starts to kiss on Greg.

“There you go. Enjoy.”

Greg and the girl head out.

Jay watches the other girl and the two guys get naked and the rest of the party start to gather to watch.

After class Ben is changing in a back room out of his leotard with another boy his age. The boy touches his butt. And Ben jumps. “Hey!”

“You’ve got a cute derrière,” the boy says with a French accent.

“Thank you.”

“De rien.” The boy then kisses Ben. Then after some awkward fumbling he says, “Ouvrez la bouche.”

Ben says, “I don’t know what you mean?”

“Open your mouth. Like this.” The two kiss again and Ben opens his mouth.

Steven plays tennis with a girl his age and looses. Laughing about it he says, “How about we play chess?”

“You’re is funny. Ma mère dit que tu vas faire un brillant biologiste. Pas si bon au tennis.”

“Vous êtes bon à la fois et beau.” He leans in and kisses her over the net.

Ellie shops in New York. Trying on a dress she comes out of the dressing room asking for Randall’s opinion. He tackles her as a man across the room is tackled while firing off two shots.

Season 3
Episode 6

Late in the evening, Ellie walks into the back of South Fork, people following her carrying her luggage up stairs, Randall walking into the living room behind her. “What is that?”

Randall answers, “It’s a Klimt. Pamela surprised everyone as an anonymous bidder. She donated it to the Barnes Gallery here in Dallas and had a copy made for the house.”

“Not that. That!”

Jay appears behind them and says, “That’s a picture of my grandfather, his sisters and mother,” looking at a framed picture on the piano among several others of Rebecca Wentworth and her children. “My mom told me to take it out of her room and put it by the new painting.”

“Oh Jay.” She hugs him. “I didn’t know you were home.”

“I came home for dinner. I’m working on my new house.”

“Oh I heard. You bought ten acres of South Fork. How wonderful. Are you planning on settling down?”

“Well if I find the right person.”

“So tell me about this house.”

“It’s designed by Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas.”

“Really,” her face lights up.

“Yes. My grandpa built it and it’s been empty for years. I’m having it moved here, piece by piece.”

“You’re moving Cliff Barnes’s house onto South Fork?”

“Yes. It was my mother’s idea. It’s insanely expensive to take apart, move and put back together but it’s perfect. It’s just what I’m looking for. She’s also having the Fuksas’s design a lab for someplace on South Fork for vaccine research. I guess the foundations are giving a bunch of money to medical research.”

“On South Fork?”

“Yes. The scientists she assembled wanted a rural location for Barnes Labs.”

“Barnes Labs.” Ellie raises an eye brow.

“Yes. That’s what she’s calling it.”

In the lobby of a modern building in Paris Pamela takes to a podium. “Thank you so much for being here. The Barnes Institute of Academic Scholarship was my father’s greatest passion, as a place where politics were set aside for truth, the truth of academics. I am proud of it as one of the world’s great think tanks, set up to foster the economic and social welfare, security and opportunity of all people. My father had many careers in his life time, lawyer, businessman, diplomat. In 1916 the Institute for Academic Research was established and in 1996 it got the attention of my father. Today, in addition to it’s main campus in Washington DC, the Barnes Institute maintains centers in Doha, Beijing, and New Delhi, and as of today, Paris.”

Ellie closes up the Wall Street Journal in a huff while eating breakfast with Bobby out by the pool. “Why is Cliff Barnes’s name everywhere I turn?”

Bobby chuckles. “What now?”

“Barnes Children Hospital, Barnes University, the Barns Gallery, the Barns House, the Barnes Institute.”

“Cliff Barnes was a very successful man who has given away everything he ever worked for.”

“OK, he didn’t. He daughter is. And that’s because she’s a Ewing with John Ross’s money. Otherwise she couldn’t afford to. And it’s everything his mother and stepdad father worked for.”

Again Bobby laughs. “Explain it anyway you want. That’s what’s going on. Law suits are settled over his will and she’s moving forward. Projects are finally coming to fruition and Pamela wants her father honored. And do does his sister Pam. And you know what. I knew Cliff Barnes. He did do a lot of good work in his life time.”

“Like going after the Ewing’s.”

“I didn’t say it was all good work. Anyway, where’s Paul? I assume you’re going to be staying put on the ranch for the foreseeable future.”

“No why?”

“Someone’s trying to kill you.”

“Poppycock. I’m not hiding out because of some nut job. I’m fine. As for Paul, he’s working. He doesn’t need to stop his life to watch over me.”

“For a married couple, you don’t associate much.”

“You do you Uncle Bobby and let me do me.”

Bo walks out of the house and Ellie stands to hug him. “Uncle Bobby was just telling me you’re here. How’s my little brother?”

“I’m good.”

“You don’t sound good. What’s wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong Ellie.”

“You’re here, so something’s wrong.”

“Nothing wrongs Ellie. I just wanted to visit South Fork.”

“OK. No. You didn’t just want to visit South Form. Especially with only Uncle Bobby here. No offense Uncle Bobby.”

“None taken.”

“Bo, if you can tell Uncle Bobby what’s wrong, you can tell me.”

“No offense Ellie, but I doubt it.”

“You doubt it. There is nothing your big sister can’t fix.”

“I’m broke.”

“Oh. Like how broke?”

“I’m selling stuff.”

“How can you be broke?”

“Bad investments.”

“I’ll have Roger Leland look over your investments. He’ll figure it out.”

“Already did,” Bobby says.

“And?”

“He’s salvaging a lot, but it’s not good. The best Bo’s sitting on is Florida swamp land the foundation is looking to buy.”

“They’ll figure it out. I’m sure they will. It’s not like you’ll be homeless. You can always move in here, especially now as Jay’s moving out.”

Randall picks up the old plate and places a new plate in front of Ellie and then fills up her coffee cup. Bo helps himself to the buffet.

John Ross talks to Mateo through a video chat on laptops in a heavily paneled library. “There’s isn’t any possible reason for my brother to meet with Elena once, let a lone three time. Paul taking a job from her after we included him in our meetings, after we tried to find a new role for him and he declined everything. I even offered that son of a bitch an opportunity to start up his own company. And the Chinese deal?”

“No word yet.”

“They can’t produce enough domestic oil and gas without us and they’re still thinking about it?”

“It appears that way.”

“And Ellie?”

“I don’t have any proof but I’m certain it’s Elena,” Mateo says with great burden.

“I just can’t believe she’s turned into a person who’d pay to murder someone, anyone.”

“She’s my sister. I’m the last one who’d want to believe it. But if this goes back to Sechin or any of his friends, they wouldn’t have missed, certainly not twice.”

“I wish for your sake she’d find a way to move on. With all that money she could create any life, any where. Listen, I decided if things didn’t pan out with China to walk away. I want you to move onto the Bay Bengal.”

“I’ve been waiting for this. China’s too dependent on imports for food and energy to let up on that pressure. Eventually they’ll come to you. In the mean time I’ll assemble a team for India and Bangladesh.”

Jay sits behind the desk in the South Fork study, across from Sue Ellen. “I like Guardian Cyber Systems. It’s a good grounds up. Overall your diversification is good with healthy liquidity, minerals, real estate and securities. You did a fine job. Brazilian farm land,” she smiles. “The three unlisted biotech companies? What’s up?”

“Steven plans on going into bioscience.”

“I see. OK. The level of diversity is impressive. Roger’s doing?”

“Advising. I had more input from Adrian.”

“Who’s Adrian?”

“He’s a computer hacker I meet on line. It’s kind of weird. I’m not sure if he sought me out or I sought him out. We just started chatting. He’s brilliant. Kinda weird. But he can find things out you wouldn’t believe. The cyber security company was Mateo’s idea actually.”

“I’m impressed. And you’re in the process of moving Cliff’s fifteen thousand square foot house to South Fork.”

“The move is done. Putting it back together, decorating, landscaping, that’s taking some time.”

“His neighbors should be happy. The house never really fit the neighborhood. I’m curious. The money, it doesn’t add up.”

“The house actually belongs to my mother. She’s moving it, including the landscaping. I’m just decorating it.”

“It was always a pretty empty house. You like the style?”

“I do. It’s modern.”

“That it is. So I guess if this is just decorating cost it makes sense.” Sue Ellen smiles at Jay.

“What?”

“I’m just very proud of you. Twenty-one and you’ve accomplished so much.”

“With an awful lot of help.”

“That’s OK. We all have a lot of help.”

Mateo walks into a modest Mexican farm house to find Elena arguing in Spanish with an older woman. He holds the woman and says, "Está bien tía Luciana, ve a cuidar a mi mamá. Yo me encargaré de Elena.”

The woman barely opens the door, squeezes in and quickly closes it.

“I told you to stay away.” Mateo stares down Elena.

“I want to hear it from my mother.”

“It’s lucky I was coming to visit. If I hadn’t what would have you’ve done, shoved tía Luciana out of the way?”

“I want to talk to my mother.”

“Don’t you think she can hear you? Don’t you think if she wanted to talk to you, she’d be out here?”

“I don’t know. I want to see her.”

“No one gives a damn what you want. But you won’t get through me.” She makes a move to shove him out of the way and he puts a gun to her head. “Wasn’t I very clear? No me atravesarás.”

She backs up.

“And you’re not standing outside her room up setting her. Security has a new order, shoot to kill next time you step foot on this property.”

“You think that’s what mamá wants?”

“You think she wants a puta for a daughter!”

“How dare you.”

“You think I don’t know Paul Wendell is screwing you as part of a deal to get him to run your companies? Companies you bought with drug money from Joaquin Reyes after he screwed you. And Bo Ewing and Robert Wentworth. You don’t think I know you put a hit on Ellie Ewing?”

“She set me up to spend years of my life in prison! My son . . .”

“You don’t have a son.”

They can hear wailing from the next room and in Spanish the begging of God and Luciana trying to calm Carmen.”

“What happened to you?” Mateo out the gun down.

“John Ross.”

“He loved you. When no one else would have anything to do with us, he was your friend.”

“That’s not true. They were all nice to us.”

“Nice to servants. He was your friend. He loved you.”

“Our mamá, she told me he was just like his father. She told me how bad he was. She warned me to stay away from him.”

“Then why didn’t you? Why’d you feel the need to hurt him? Even if JR had done what Cliff said he did to our family, why did you have to rape John Ross.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Getting him drunk and screwing with a man who didn’t want you.”

“Is that what he said?”

“Isn’t it true?”

“He was drunk. He was upset over Pamela. He’d been cheating on her and got caught.”

“So he wanted to cheat again?”

“No. He said he loved her and hated himself for hurting her.”

“So you got in bed with him anyway?”

“It wasn’t like that. He’d framed Cliff Barnes.”

“No Bobby framed Cliff Barnes. John Ross just had letter. A letter from JR to Bobby.”

“Yes but . . .”

“So to get the letter you gave him your body.”

The wailing from the next room gets louder.

“No!”

“No. You got him drunk further and had sex with a man who said no.”

“He . . . I don’t know. He said . . .”

“He said no . . . Leave Elena.”

“It’s not what happened. It was justice.”

Luciana sneaks out of the door and hands Elena a note.

Elena reads it.

Mateo asks, “What is it?”

“Our mamá wants me to go to the Convento de San José de los Carmelitas Descalzos to seek God.”

“I’ll have you driven there, if you’re willing.”

Episode 7

John Ross, Pamela and the kids all show up back to South Fork in front of two South Fork trucks carrying the luggage. A staff of people empty the trucks and take everything inside. Sue Ellen, Bo and Bobby greet every and head up to congregate around the pool. Sue Ellen tells them all about Jay’s new house on South Fork and how she hopes it means he’s settling down.

John Ross and Bobby both bemoan he’s too young to settle down.

Pamela asks, “Where’s Ellie?”

Sue Ellen answers, “She had a party in San Fransisco. She’ll be home tomorrow morning.”

John Ross puts his arm around Bo. “Let’s you and me go get the stakes for the barbecue.”

John Ross and Bo walk into the kitchen whew Amelie works on the rest of lunch. “So I take it you haven’t talked to Elena lately.”

“What? Who?”

“Cut the shit!” John Ross shoves him against the counter. “The only reason I ain’t gutted you since day one with her is you’re my brother.” He punches him in the gut.

Bo bends over in pain.

“You better start shooting straight with me or I’ll kick your ass right over the county line!”

“What the hell!”

“You think you piss without me getting an up date? One thing daddy taught me, trust no one, verify everything. So you want to come clean?”

“Alright we meet. She got a hold of me.”

“You’re broke. Makes you an idiot and a target. How you blew so much is beyond me. Your expenses are low enough. But I don’t blame you for that. Daddy didn’t teach you how to manage money. You’re in touch with Roger. He’ll take care of things and we’ll get you some money if you need it. You just cut out the philanthropy that you can’t afford. You needed money you should have come to me.”

“What as the poor relation?”

“Don’t be stupid. You were generous. Too generous. Drove yourself into the poor house. Pamela’s given away nearly everything Cliff Barnes accumulated in his life time. That’s a good thing. Except your not married to a man who provides the money so you can afford to do such a thing. I’ll put you on as a consultant with the South Fork Cattle Company. It’s got operations in Florida. It’ll provide you the income you need.”

“Thank you. It’s that easy?”

“It’s that easy. Except for the whole Elena thing. On the good side for you, she’s been absent. She’s been living in a convent trying to figure things out.”

“Really? So no vendetta against you and Ellie?”

“Not right now. I can’t believe you were willing to help her hurt us.”

“It’s not that.”

“That’s exactly what it is. Pack your shit and get out of my house. I’ll help prop you up financially, but don’t you ever forget you betrayed me and because of that I can never trust you.”

“But . . . “

“He left me tasks to do, to get anything. I had to sell my soul to get anything out of him. He just left you cash and you burned right through it and then to get more you sided with someone who hurt my family.” John Ross punches him in the face. “Screw you you god damn brat. Screw you.”

The family gathers around the pool. John Ross and Bobby cook stakes. Anthony has joined them and John Ross excuses himself. He takes Anthony to the side. “You OK?”

“Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?”

“My sister.”

“What do you mean?”

“We’re friends Anthony. You don’t have to pretend for me. Ellie’s hurt you. You don’t even live with her.”

“I though this was gonna be a real marriage. I thought she loved me.”

“I’m so sorry. I’ll talk to her.”

“No. I don’t want you talking her into it.”

“I’m not gonna talk her into anything but this stops. Listen, you wanna retire, I get it. But this bull shit marriage stops now!”

“I appreciate it, but . . .”

“That’s why I called you here. You’re family. You live here, with your wife. That’s step one. More in.”

“Ellie thinks it’s best if we maintain separate residents.”

“What about what you want?” John Ross then notices Jay and Greg walking up from the driveway. He pats Anthony on the shoulder. “Listen. This ain’t over. I expect you to moved in. OK.” John Ross walks over toward Jay. “Well look who’s stopped by.”

“Hey dad.”

“Hey. What the hell.” He grabs him up and hugs him. “What’s this I hear you’re moving out?” He pats him on the back.

“Yeah. I moved Grandpa Cliff’s house over into the middle of one of the patches of woods. Cleared about an acre, surrounded by trees. It’s really something. You’ll have to come over and take a look.”

“So does this mean you found somebody to settle down with and are gonna give me grandchildren.”

Greg bust out laughing as they approached the rest of the family.

Anthony talks to Sue Ellen about buying a small lot on South Fork to build Ellie a house of their own. Sue Ellen loves the idea.

Late at night Ellie walks through the dark back of South Fork into the entry. As she’s about to climb the stairs she’s startled by Pamela standing behind her having walked out of the living room. “Not that I care, but your brother does.”

“Jesus Pamela. What the hell. What were you sitting in the dark?”

“I was waiting for you in the living room.”

“Why?”

“Your brother expects this family to get along and as long as I’m here I’m going to make sure that happens.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Your marriage. Your husband living somewhere else. Believe me the last thing I want is you in this house. Now I’ve got Bo. But that’s what John Ross wants.”

“What does my marriage have to do with anything.”

“Your husband is up stairs and living at South Fork.”

“What? Why?”

“Because family lives on the ranch. Your mother and Anthony are talking about a grand French mansion for you two on the property. Which suits me. Until then act married.”

“I don’t need marriage lessons. And certainly not from you.”

“You’re not getting them. I’m telling you. You up set John Ross and he’ll placate you. I won’t. Elena Ramos is an idiot. I’m not. No one is going to up set this family. You don’t want to be married, get divorced.”

“You’re not making any sense. You’re not even a Ewing.”

“No I’m not. I’m a Barnes. The last of my family. So no I don’t give a damn about you. But I do care about my husband and my children. And this house will be peaceful, one way or another.”

“Are you threatening me?”

“I don’t threaten people.”

“Careful Pamela. You won’t be the first sister-in-law driven away in this family.”

Pamela laughs. “No, but I’m the first one to own this house.”

“You own South Fork?”

“Lock stock and barrel. The land’s owned by the Barnes Ewing Foundation, which I control.”

“The what?”

“We merged all the family foundations, myself and my friends who make up the boards of each foundation. So we named it Barnes Ewing. Don’t worry there’s still a Farlow Fund within the foundation.”

“I’m sick of hearing the Barnes name.”

“I don’t care. I thought I made that clear.”

“Do yourself a favor, stick to cooking.”

“Thank you for the advise. So I’ll offer you some of mine, get divorced or act married in my house.” Pamela climbs the stairs.

Ellie walks into her bedroom where Anthony is about finished dressing. “Morning sweetheart,” he says.

“Morning,” Ellie says somewhat puzzled to see him.

“How was your party?”

“It was fine.”

“Are you coming down for the meeting?”

“Oh it’s that time.”

“Yep. Five AM.”

“Yeah, I’ll be down.”

He kisses her cheek and leaves the room.

In John Ross’s study he introduces Bo. “He’ll be on my pay roll as a consultant to the Chairman of the Board of Ewing Industries, and a consultant with the South Fork Cattle Company. Play it one day at a time as to whether he’ll stay here or move back to Florida. You know Mateo. He’s responsible for security and information. Though Jay’s taking over the information role. And Roger. I’m not sure you know Roger. Oh yes, Uncle Bobby introduced you. He’s responsible for all investing, the business and the foundation and obviously each of us personally. And Anthony runs the company. This is Sam Watson, he runs Trident. He’s stepping down to run Ewing Industries. Anthony’s retiring, though he’ll remain on the boards of both.”

“And you?” Bo asks.

“I’m the non-executive Chairman of Ewing Industries and Trident and a ranch hand here at South Fork. And Ellie,” John Ross says as his sister walks in the room. “Like Anthony, she’s retired of sorts, sort of takes on special projects. Pamela is the Chairman of the Barnes Ewing Foundation, but she never attends these meetings. So Jay. You were going to tell us about your research into biotech.”

Bo looks on overwhelmed and exhausted.

Ellie looks annoyed.

Sue Ellen has breakfast with Pamela and the kids talking about meeting with an architect in Washington today that Anthony set up to get started on designing Ellie’s house. “I’m really looking forward to it. I mean certainly Ellie has her own opinions but to be part of it. It should be a lot of fun.”

Bobby brings a plate from the buffet. “What you’re describing sounds like a head ache. Dealing with all those contractors.”

Sue Ellen laughs. “This from a man who shovels manure for the fun of it.”

Bobby laughs. “OK you got me.”

Up by the house the meeting inside breaks up as they walk out of the study and toward their cars.

Steven says, “So I decided I’m going to finish my undergraduate here at UT Dallas and then graduate work at Southwestern before really moving out and away from home.”

“That’s a good idea,” Pamela says. “That will be a good age to be away from home, at least during the week for studies. Any idea where you’d study?”

“I’ve got a small list, Stanford, Harvard, Cambridge, Zurich, or John Hopkins.

John Ross joins them. At the breakfast table he says, “So what are we taking about?”

Pamela answers, “Steven is talking about where he wants to get his doctorate.”

Left in the study alone Ellie says to Anthony, “What is this you’re staying at South Fork and we’re building a house on the property and you’re retiring?”

“Semi retiring, the way you live. If I keep working, I can’t work and be with you.”

“I though we were fine the way things were.”

“How can you be? You were shot a second time and I wasn’t even there.”

“Mateo said that was Elena and she’s in some convent now.”

“She should be locked back up.”

“Agreed but no one will ever be able to make a case out of it. I’m fine with locked up in a nunnery.”

“Reminds me of my grandmother.”

“Back to the point at hand. I thought we had a perfectly agreeable situation. Why the change?”

“We didn’t agree, you did. I don’t mind retiring and jetting all over. Though I do hope at some time we settle down.”

“What and have children?”

“Not necessarily. I remember you said you weren’t interested in children of your own. You’re happy being an Aunt. I can live with that and here with your niece and nephews. You know the one with the most interest in the company is Lilly. She asks John Ross questions all the time and he defers most of them to me. She’s a very intelligent little girl.”

“So until this house is finished you plan on staying at South Fork with me?”

“While you’re here.”

“This house you’re building, we’ll have separate bedrooms?”

“If that’s what you want.”

“I need my space, so yes. But this house here is too crowded. It was with two boys and my momma but Bo and three more kids. This is ridiculous. I’d stick Bo in the bunk house with the ranch hands.”

“Bo’s not a bad guy.”

“He’s an idiot.”

“He just needs someone to teach him.”

“No thank you. Anyway, in the mean time, why don’t you and I head to China to see what we can do. RamCo’s selling us the Chinese leases. We’ve got to work things out. I’m looking at gas powered electric plants. Their government is way to invested in coal.”

“Their government’s too invested in everything.”

“Agreed.”

In a warm and sunny restaurant in downtown Dallas Pamela and her brother Paul have lunch. “With the sale of Pengo to Trident, Elena’s company will just be various investments put in trust to Steven.”

“And you’re back to being retired?” Pamela asks.

“Just like that.”

Pamela smiles. “And Jenny says as empty nesters you’re moving to the ranch house on South Fork.”

“Yes. The old McKay House. Jenny told me Ellie’s building her own house on the ranch.”

“She is.”

“I bet that makes you happy.”

“Tremendously. Now I just have to find a place for Bo. You don’t happen to have an extra room, do you?”

“I do but I don’t think he’d want to stay with me.”

“Well that’s OK. My plan is to talk Ellie into taking him on as a pet project. Turn him into her idea of a Ewing, so he’ll have to move in with her.”

“I’ve been asked along on her special project to China, but if she’s over there, who’s working on this house of hers?”

“It’s all up to Sue Ellen. Start to finish.”

“Really. Sounds like a big project. But I’m sure she’ll have fun with it.”

“I’m certain. She’s already meeting with architects. Well I’m glad you’re moving to South Fork too. Will Greg be moving with you?”

“No. He’s officially out now too. It’s just the two of us.”

“Well that should be nice for you. And you’re running for County Commissioner. Good for you.”

Jay welcomes some people to his new house, a couple of very handsome men, slightly older than him and what appears to be their girls friends. He offers them a drink. They’re impressed by his house. He makes their drinks while they set up lines of coke on the coffee table. He declines the offer when he brings over the drinks. The four get high and take off their clothes.

Pamela cuts flowers out in her garden when Adrian approaches. “Mrs. Ewing.”

“Hello Adrian.”

“How do you know me?”

“You live on South Fork. You don’t think I’d know what someone living here looks like, even if we haven’t been introduced?”

“I haven’t figured out who, but I’m guessing it was you who managed to link me and Jay up.”

“Not personally, no.”

“True, not personally. But I’m not here about Jay. I need to talk to you about Steven.”

“Steven? Do you know Steven?”

“Like you I spy on the people around me, but unlike you I can actually get into their head and see what they’re thinking.”

“That’s an impressive talent.”

“Not really. I can see what they’re doing on line. What they google. What they chat about. What they think is private.”

“Oh, I see. And, Steven?”

“I would never betray anyone’s privacy, Mrs. Ewing. Looking into someone’s private thoughts can be disturbing. But they don’t define us.”

“I agree. Yet except? . . .”

“I thought you should know Steven is very lonely. I mean extremely lonely.”

“I see.”

“I couldn’t let something happen to him and not say anything. You understand?”

“Yes. I do. Thank you very much.”

“Of course.”

“And Jay?”

“He’s got his own demons.”

“Don’t we all.”

“You’ll keep an eye on him?”

“I will.”

“Thank you Adrian.”

Steven sits in his room, between a dresser and the wall in the corner of his room. Squeezed into the space, the pain on his face seems intense. He bites his lower lip as if to stifle a breakdown.

Hi @stevew, I have a few questions before I begin reading:

This thread "Could There Be Another Continuation" was preceded by another thread of yours titled "My Ultimate Continuation Idea." Do I need to read the that one before I read this one so I'll understand it, or are the two threads two entirely separate ideas for a continuation?

I had just started reading and noticed that you describe every character as having the role of another character. For example, you wrote: "J. Paul Wendell - in Cliff’s role." I was wondering, when you create a new character, do you write every new character by modeling its personality on that of an already existing character? Is that a stylistic choice, that they're written to resemble a previous character, or is that only a description to give us a general idea of what that new character's personality is like?

In the case of a character we already know, like Sue Ellen, it says "Sue Ellen Ewing - in Jock's role." I'm guessing there must be a specific reason why Sue Ellen is in Jock's role instead of Sue Ellen in Sue Ellen's role, but I don't know what it might be. Could you explain that?

I had just started reading this and when I saw that after every character it says in the role of (another character), I decided it would be better if I go into it knowing your intention behind that way of introducing them.

While there’s often cross over ideas none of my threads are tied to each other, so no you don’t need to read one to read the other. In fact if you think they’re related, it would probably be confusing. I just take one as far as I feel and then start again. This one came from a discussion thread where a picture on line gave rise to the idea that another continuation was in the works.

In role of us a very general idea. Paul is not like Cliff in at all in personality, but in terms of the fact that Cliff was a foil to the Ewing’s an on going issue for them, and related through marriage - that sort of broad concept.

Sue Ellen like Jock is the outside to the ranch which had been in Miss Ellie’s family. Like Jock she’s a self made woman, to some extend, well respected in the public, in her case more for running a billion dollar charity network than a corporation, but as they’re tied in terms of protecting and managing wealth it’s all sort of the same thing. Again in a very broad sense she’s Jock, like Bobby is Miss Ellie, protector of the land and the family and an all around good guy.

I also include pictures so I do t have to describe them like a novel but give in more of a tv series feel. The big picture in this story is I’m trying to dive more into characters than just all plot, as original Dallas did, when I think the show was at its peak. I also based them very loosely on real life people - The Ewing Brothers (JR and Bobby) like the Koch brothers, Wendell like J. Paul Getty. In the original they were building an Empire. In this continuation they are an empire.

Hope this helps and I hope you enjoy. Love to hear your feed back. I’m sure it’s not for everyone. I work to keep it more real, like Dallas did, and not fast and loose with reality like the soap it became. Mostly I just have fun.

Pamela knocks on an up stairs bedroom door. Steve calls out, “Yes.”

“It’s me. Can I come in?”

“Sure.”

Pamela let’s herself in, closing the door, finding Steve working on putting together a model. “I was hoping we could talk.”

“I guess.” Steven continues at his model.

Pamela sits on the bed. “I know I wasn’t the greatest mom.”

“That’s not true.”

“You never knew what would change my mood. And I was so mean to your dad. But I’m better now. Things are better with my medication.”

“I think so. You do a much better job at controlling yourself.”

“Thank you. I am trying. You know the hardest thing about growing up is being lonely. We all learn how very much alone we are. I feel that way. Your dad does too. Your grandma’s told me how alone she often feels and always has.”

“Really?”

“Yep. Do you feel lonely?”

“A lot.”

Pamela gets up hugs him from behind. “You know you’re really not. You know how much you mean to me, to everyone in this family. What’s your daddy always say?”

“Ewing’s don’t fight each other.”

Pamela chuckles. “Well yeah. He says that. But he also says, we’re a team. We may be wrong, we may be right, but we're Ewings, and we stick together. That's what makes us unbeatable!”

Steven smiles.

Pamela. Sits back down on the bed. “There is nothing you can ever say or do to make us turn away from you. You can go away and come back just as if nothing ever happened. We love you, unconditionally. Even when you don’t like yourself so much, we love you. We love everything about you.” She messes his hair as he sits down next to her.

“Mom.”

“Even if you want to see Elena.”

“What? No. I haven’t even thought about her.”

“I’m serious Steven. If you want to meet her, I’ll arrange it.”

“No. I swear. I don’t think about her. I kinda feel bad for her. I mean she did some stupid stuff right? Fell in with a bad crowd. People do that. Her whole family turned on her. Mine never would.”

“Her brother was killed by that crowd.”

“I know. But still, this family wouldn’t turn on me. If I went to prison, you’d visit me all the time.”

“We would.”

“But she’s got no one.”

“If you want to be there for her.”

“No it’s not that. She’s not a Ewing. I just feel bad for her.”

“I guess I do too. We’re very lucky.”

“Yes we are, momma. Yes we are. And you know you’re never alone either. Kinda feel bad for your momma too. She’s never around.”

“Some people.”

Steven pauses, then says, “Can I tell you about this girl in Switzerland?”

“Of course you can.”

Jay walks up to Adrian on the porch of the hunting lodge and sits down. Jay says, “You’re right. This is about perfect.”

“It is. Thank you.”

“Thank me for what?”

“Letting me stay here. It’s the one place I feel safe.”

“Of course. It was just sitting here. This was the house my great, great, great grandfather first built when he got here I. Texas. Oldest structure on South Fork.”

“That’s really cool. I like the trees around it. You can’t even tell it’s here from above.”

“Above?”

“Satellites. And your dad’s got so much security on the ranch, no one’s getting close enough to this clump of trees to know it’s here.”

“And the extra solar panels out by the runway provide all the electricity you’ll ever need.”

“Yeah you kinda overkilled on all those batteries in the shed. And I’ve picked up gardening. I was thinking of learning to hunt, but I might just go vegetarian.”

“On South Fork?” Jay laughs.

“I’m cleaning out the old cellar.” Adrian points out in the yard.

“That mound of dirt is an old cellar?”

“Yep. Putting in new support beams.”

“That’s pretty cool.”

Adrian sits quite for a bit and then says, “I like having you here.”

“I like being here.”

Ellie talks to Anthony on their private plane about the deal in China, getting permission to build gas power plants and using the Ewing process to supply the gas. Anthony talks about the dominance of the Chinese government. Ellie says, “Well, we have friends that want to see it destabilized. Maybe we join them.”

A very handsome man is shown Elena’s old office. “Mr. Wentworth, this was Ms. Ramos’s office.”

“Thank you. I think this’ll do just fine.”

Robert Wentworth

In their bedroom John Ross says to Pamela, “From what Mateo told me Katherine burned through what money your father set up for her. And my dad didn’t leave him enough to buy RamCo. My guess is he only owns a piece.”

“What about her vow of poverty?”

“Bull. If I know Elena, and I do, she’s ambitious. She just never had the steel to do what she had to do to make it rich. First oil well we bought into together, the debt, she trembled signing the papers. But she was already spending the money in her mind. We were gonna build Ewing Petroleum and she just knew we’d be richer than any Ewing. She wanted to build a house bigger than South Fork. Told me to forget about this house. No. Church or no church, Elena hasn’t walked away from anything.”

“So you think they’re partners?”

“I sure do.”

“And Robert Wentworth is Katherine’s son?”

“That’s what the press release said. He’s been living in Switzerland.”

“No mention of whether she’s alive or not?”

“No. Mateo’s looking into it. I’m thinking she must be. Mateo says she got a presidential pardon same time Elena did. But her crime was a state crime, so I’m not sure why that maters.”

“But why would you pardon a dead person?”

“I don’t know. All I know is, you have a new cousin and he’s shown up in Dallas, tied to Elena Ramos.”

“And Bo?”

“Says he has y heard from her, but I’m keeping an eye on him. Second he does and doesn’t tell me, he’s gone.”

“So is this convent thing a scam?”

“Mateo thinks so, so their mother will accept her and then Carmen can help talk Steven into seeing Elena.”

“I hate that bitch.”

Ellie sits to the side watching negotiations between Anthony and Sam and representatives of the Chinese government. Anthony obviously dominates the meeting in Mandarin, translating for Sam.

Pamela is shows into Robert’s office but cuts off the secretary, “Hello. I’m Pamela Barnes.”

He shakes her hand. “I’m Robert Wentworth. Nice to finally meet you.”

“I didn’t even know you existed. Now you’re the President if RamCo.”

“A very good investment I believe.”

“I’m sure it is. Why are you here?”

“What?”

“Here? Now? This company?”

“I told you, it was a good deal. Plus, I’ve wats been interested in Texas. My mother talked an awful lot about this state growing up.”

“She was from Texas.”

“Yes. Originally along the Gulf.”

“Yes. The Wentworth’s and the Blake’s. And there’s one other cousin. Christopher.”

“He lives in Northern California.”

“Maybe you’d consider going with me and introducing me to him. The two of you are all the family I have.”

I’m the study Mateo hands John Ross a paper and says, “It’s a copy of his birth certificate.”

John Ross reads over it. “Uncle Bobby?”

“That’s who’s listed as his father.”

“No way?” John Ross takes out his phone. “I’ve got to hear this straight from him. How’s this even possible?”

All the Ewing’s, except Ellie and Anthony, are in the living room for cocktails when Pamela walks Robert into the room and begins to introduced him. Bobby shakes his hand, “So I hear I’m your father.”

“I take it you got a hold of my birth certificate.”

“I’m not your father. There’s no way possible.”

Pamela asks Robert, “Is it true?”

“Whether it’s possible? I have no clue. But he’s not. Everything my mother told me about you and this family was true. Except you and her were never married and her sister Pam didn’t run you down in car out front of your house and kill you and you are not my father.”

“So she lied to you, telling you I was your father.”

“Yes. And she mentioned your parents and brothers and even John Ross.”

“But you figure out it was a lie?”

“My mother was mentally ill. She spoke to you, or what I was told was your spirit, all the time. When I was older I sought out the Wentworth’s and the Blake’s.”

Pamela says, “Grandma didn’t have any siblings or aunts and uncles.”

“That’s right. Rebecca was owned by her family for marrying Willard Barnes. He mother died when was just a kid. Her father died when she was fourteen. Distant relatives, that’s about it. The Wentworth’s had a lot more family.”

“I don’t know them.”

“They adored our grandmother.”

Bobby says, “How did you figure out your mother was lying?”

“Well I wasn’t looking for you. I assumed you were dead. So, I found your brother, JR. He was as surprised as you to learn that I believed you were my father. Even told me you were a live. So I did a DNA test with him.”

“Showing you’re not a Ewing,” Bobby says.

“Showing JR is my father.”

Episode 9

All the Ewing’s, except Ellie and Anthony, are in the living room for cocktails and Pamela has introduced Robert and shock fills the room after Robert reveals his father is JR Ewing.

“It was then I learned all my mother’s lies. I knew she’d been mentally ill, but I didn’t know to what extent. He visited me right before he died. Said good bye. Made sure I was set up. And. And that was it.”

Bobby sits down, utterly taken back.

Bo approaches him and offers his hand. “So we’re brothers.” Robert shakes his hand and Bo pulls him into a hug.

Sue Ellen sits and mumbles, “There’ll never be an end to JR’s children coming out of the woodwork.”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset anyone. If the issue of my father hadn’t come up, I wouldn’t have said anything.”

Pamela says, “No it wasn’t your fault. We went snooping around in your life.”

Bobby says, “It’s just you bought a company from a woman we’ve had a particularly difficult time with.”

“Elena Ramos? Felix Uradel, an old friend of mine, contacted me about a great deal. He was right. I’m just here to figure out what I’ve bought and what I’m going to do with it.”

John Ross offers his hand, “Well, welcome to South Fork. What’ll it be?”

That evening as Pamela slides into bed, John Ross walks out of the bathroom and says, “Did you know he was one of JR’s bastards?”

“No. I would have given you a heads up, if I had.”

“I’m sure he’s not the last we’ll meet. Bo seemed to take to him.”

“I’m sure he feels a kin to him.”

“Why would he?” John Ross asks.

“Raised somewhere else, by another woman. Not part of this family, yet JR was his father.”

“I suppose but Ellie was raised in England and I kinda was too.”

“True But Sue Ellen is our mother.”

“And Ellie believes South Fork is hers.” John Ross slides into bed.

Pamela stretches up and John Ross kisses her lips, then with barely a breath between them she says, “Speaking of which. Sue Ellen says we’ve got over a year until Ellie’s house is complete. And Jay’s practically moved into the hunting cabin, so I was thinking maybe Ellie and Bo could temporarily move into Jay’s house.”

“You should have thought of it before you started calling it ‘The Barnes House.’”

“Oh yeah. I guess you’re right. Maybe I could get Bo to move in there alone?”

“You really want this house to yourself don’t you?” John Ross kisses her again. “You’re not gonna move my momma out are you?”

“No. Of course not. Sue Ellen is different.”

John Ross kisses her a third time. “I get it darlin’. Well, really I don’t, but it’s normal not to share your house with your whole family so I understand. What’s this about Jay living in the hunting cabin?”

“Slowly but surly he’s moving in with Adrian.”

“Is he that serious about him?”

“Partying has stopped. He doesn’t even go out for parties. Stays home with Adrian, sitting on the front porch.”

“Well, as long as he’s happy I guess.”

“He does seem happy.”

“I hope so. I’d like him to find some one he can count on.”

In the morning as Sue Ellen and Pamela have breakfast with the kids Bobby loads up a South Fork truck. John Ross and his team exit the study. They go their own way and John Ross is joined by Sue Ellen and Pamela and the kids to wish Bobby a great trip with Chris and his grandchildren and Pam.

Bo comes up from the barns to add his well wishes. Bobby hands Bo the keys to the cottage and says, “Take care of it for me.”

“Will do.”

A limousine pulls up.

John Ross says, “You’re gonna stay in the cottage?”

Bo says, “Yes.”

John Ross looks at Pamela, smiling. He winks at his wife.

Ellie and Anthony step out of the limousine. “What’s going on?” she asks.

Bobby says, “I’m going to spend sometime with Christopher.”

“Oh. Good for you Uncle Bobby. Give him a hug for me.”

With almost a surprise on his face Bobby says, “I will Ellie.”

Ellie adds, “Bo, don’t tell me you’ve moved in.”

“For the time being.”

“Good. Good. Daddy would love all his children living under one roof.”

John Ross says, “He’s got other children besides the three of us.”

Ellie smiles. “Bastards don’t count.”

“Ellie,” Sue Ellen snaps.

Ben asks, “What’s a bastard?”

Lilly says, “An illegitimate child.”

Bobby shakes his head, bends down and says, “You really are gonna run this place one day, aren’t ya sweetheart?” He hugs Lilly, picking her up. “Your grandpa JR would get such a kick out of you.”

Senses from the original Dallas:

The Ewing’s gather around the pool. John Ross working the barbecue, the children swimming, Jay introduces a shy Adrian. Amelie brings out salad dishes. Randal hands Ellie a mimosa. Mateo and Roger arrive. Diego walks up from the barns. Paul and Jenny arrive with Greg.

Greg arrives and Pamela introduces him to a surprisingly receptive Ellie who then introduces him to Anthony.

Ellie says to John Ross, “Things are going well in China.”

“I knew they would be when I put things in the right hands.”

“I heard Elena joined a convent.”

“She did.”

“Shame, I was hoping we’d hear more from her.”

“Why’s that?

“I love stupidity. It excites me.”

“Does it?”

“That wasn’t mine. It was Gore Vidal but it suites me.”

“It does.”

Video of Jock:

Robert walks across the garden of a Mexican convent to say to Elena, “I’m in.”

Without looking up, Elena, in full habit says, “Good. Keep it up until you can get them to agree to your buying the sixteen percent of Ewing Industries held outside the family.”

Episode 10

Pamela wakes late in the morning, the sun setting the sky on fire outside her bedroom window. She says, “Come in,” to a light knock on the door while sitting up.

Ben comes in carrying a try with breakfast pfollowed by Lilly and Michael. Ben puts the tray in front of her in the bed. Michael climbs into bed with her from the other side. “Happy Mother’s Day,” Ben announces.

Lilly hands her a card. Pamela tears up reading, “‘To the best mother ever.’”

Ben says, “Don’t worry. Amelie helped us cook you breakfast.”

“It smells delicious.”

Steven walks in next, “Mornin’ momma. Happy Mother’s Day.” He sets a huge bouquet of flowers in a crystal vase on her dresser.

“They’re gorgeous. Thank you. Thank you all. This is just wonderful. Now you didn’t forget your grandma, right?”

Jay walks in saying, “Nope, we stopped there first.”

Jay hands her a jewelry box. She opens it. It’s a charm bracket. She’s so exited to and declares “Its so beautiful.”

Jay says, “Those are our birth stones, the five charms. Then the cowboy on the bucking bronco is daddy. And the scales of justice is grandpa. The microphone has an ‘A’ on it for Grandma. The three little caricatures, those are you and your brothers.”

“It’s beautiful. Thank you.”

“It’s from all of us. You mentioned a charm bracket. I hope it’s what you wanted.”

“And then some. Thank you so much.” She kisses each one.

The Ewing’s ride across South Fork, Michael with Pamela, including Sue Ellen, Ellie, Anthony, Bo and Adrian. They arrive at a picnic site by a stream. Amelie and Randall are setting up lunch as they arrive.

Underneath the clear blue sky Jay and Adrian play Steven and Bo at badminton as the family watches and Amelie and Randall clean up from lunch.

In the evening, the sky full of oranges, the family gathers up by the house around a campfire. John Ross and Jay play guitars and sing. Adrian adds a little on the bongos.

They continue singing together until long after the sun has gone down.

Ellie walks into the offices of Ewing Global to find Sam, Anthony and Roger meeting. “What the hell is this I hear, the Chinese government gave RamCo permission to operate their off shore leases, so there backed out of our deal!”

Anthony says, “I just got off the phone with your brother.”

“And what did John Ross say?”

“No Robert. To discuss working with RamCo.”

“He’s not my brother.”

“He’s willing to discuss it.”

“Then discuss it. But handle Mr. Wentworth and send him back to Europe.”

John Ross arrives with a new pump to fix one of watering holes. Bo continues to pull the pipe out of ground. He says, “Diego got called away.”

John Ross stands and watches Bo work. “You gonna give me a hand?”

“No you’re doing a great job.”

“Serious?”

“Yeah why?”

Bo stops. “What’s with you?”

“Me. Nothing. Honestly just waiting for you to man up.”

“Man up? What the hell. Do it yourself.”

“That’s what you got to say to me. You stay in my house. Eat my food. Make friendly with my family.” John Ross shoves him. “Elena Ramos!”

Bo stumbles backwards. “What the hell are you talking about?”

John Ross punches Bo across the face. “Don’t you dare lie to me. I’ll kick your ass right over the state line you piece of shit. Elena Ramos! Mateo just told me you meet with her! You weren’t Florida wrapping some things up. You were in be in Mexico.”

“What the hell. Are you spying on me?”

“I am now. You won’t blow your nose without me knowing about it from here on out. But no I was keeping an eye on Elena Ramos.”

“You better back off. I can do what the hell I want.”

“That’s what you got to say to me. Well little brother, so can I. Get the hell off South Fork. And your trust fund is now under Roger’s control. He’ll put you on an allowance.”

“Who do you think you are?”

“The trustee of your trust fund you dumb ass. And I let you do what you wanted. Look where that got you. But you’re on a short leash now.”

“I’m not on any leash.”

“Try me and I’ll hang you from it bitch!”

John Ross gets in the truck and drives away.

Ellie sits back at the board table at Ewing Industries. “Sure we could get Richard Channing to agree to sell his sixteen percent of the company to you.”

Robert says, “And keep the company totally in the hands of the family.”

“The family,” Ellie says with a bite.

“In return you’ll get ahead in controlling China’s energy industry.”

“In turn?” Ellie looks over him like she’s sizing him up.

“That’s right. I’ll agree to sell Trident all of RamCo.”

“Oh how nice of you. All we have to do is say that Katherine Wentworth’s bastard is a Ewing.”

Steeling himself Robert says, “I am.”

“You’re Elena Ramos’s bitch. Your mother’s money went to the Barnes Ewing Foundation as she went into hiding. What ever money she has wasn’t enough to help you finance RamCo, so Elena financed it.”

“Listen that’s the deal. Take it or leave it.”

“We’ll leave it. Have a nice day Mr. Wentworth.” Ellie stands and walks out of the room, leaving Robert with Paul, Roger and Sam.

Pamela gathers every one on the front law for a photo shoot, Sue Ellen sitting in a chair with John Ross holding Pamela and Ellie holding Anthony behind her. Jay and Steven next to Pamela, Ben and Lilly in front. Michael in Sue Ellen’s lap. Pamela waves over Mateo and Roger to join them.

“Are you sure?” Mateo asks.

John Ross says, “You’re family.”

Pamela watches as the family portrait is hung above the living room fire place. She smiles. “What do you think daddy? That’s your family. I wish Ali could be there. It’s amazing how he’s been there for me. Remember when you first introduced me to Roger. You said he’s the best financial mind there is. He’s been there for us too.”

John Ross enters the room. “Who are you talking to?”

“My daddy. I think he’d be so proud of this picture. With your mother, and his grandchildren.”

“Funny how it worked out. JR and Cliff’s rivalry end with the one woman they both loved and shared grandchildren. Other than Ellie and Anthony, I think Cliff would be very happy about this portrait.”

“I think so too. Maybe not JR so much.”

“I’d like to think he mellowed out.”

From the side Pamela hugs John Ross and lays her head on his shoulder.

Pamela says, staring up at the portrait, “I think we should have included Adrian.”

“Why? Are things that serious?”

“I think they’re headed that way.”

“Well the next family portrait.”

“The next one,” John Ross agrees.

Outside by the pool all the kids play, some friends joining, including Greg and Adrian. Paul and Jenny show up and Pamela and John Ross walk out from the back of the house. Sue Ellen sits with Michael bouncing on her knee. Ellie, Anthony, Mateo and Roger play cards. Randall replaces Ellie’s drink. Amelie and Diego sit and talk off to the side.

Early in the morning John Ross and his team gather in his study, Mateo (security), Roger (investing), Anthony (special projects) and Jay (information).

Roger says, “Robert Wentworth is suing Ewing Industries for a third of the company in compensation for his mother’s share.”

“What?” John Ross says. “How can he do that? When Ewing Industries acquires Ewing Global, which was Barnes Global, the company was bankrupt. We arranged a settlement with all the parties, including the estate of Katherine Wentworth.”

“And that money was given to the foundation,” Anthony says.

“Because no one knew anything about Robert. Isn’t his suite then with the foundation?”

“They’re mentioned in it as well. He’s certainly not entitled to one third. He’s making the assumption that Ewing Industries is nothing more than Barnes Global. But I suggest we settle with him. Or at least offer a settlement.”

“Cash. Fine. Do it. I suppose he was cheated out of what was his mother’s.”

“He’s making the case that Katherine was cheated out of more than that, first by her half brother and sister, presenting a will that clearly wouldn’t allow her mother to leave them anything, and then by the Ewing’s stealing all of that, on which to build Ewing Industries.”

“I don’t know about Aunt Pam and Cliff Barnes original situation, but they were compensated too. I knew he was going to be a torn in my side.”

“Mateo says, “JR did leave him a trust fund. He isn’t entitled to anything more from the Ewing side as your father was very clear and purposeful in that as to who got what.”

“Just make him go away.”

Jay walks into the hunting lodge to find Adrian in a panic at his computer. “What’s wrong?”

Frantically attempting to address some issue Adrian says, “They’re hacking Ewing Alternative.”

“They? What? Who? For what?”

“The Ewing Process I’m sure. I’m blocking them but . . .”

“Who’s them?”

“I think it’s the Chinese.”

Robert walks into his office. His mother turns around from behind his desk, “Beautiful view,” Katherine says.

Sue Ellen and Pamela watch the oranges and grays fill the sky over South Fork as smoke pours up over the ranch.

John Ross arrives in his truck to join a team, including Diego, attempting to put out a raging forest fire. Diego yells at him to get out of there. He says, “This is my ranch! If anyone’s gonna risk their life to save it, it’s me!”

Mateo runs into the hunting cabin. “Come on let’s go. There’s a wild fire headed this way.”

Adrian, still fighting at his computer yells, “I can’t.”

Mateo pulls at Jay. “Come on.”

“I can’t leave Adrian.”

Ellie over sees a team gut the Barnes House and fill up large moving trucks. “Careful! Just make sure everything’s safe. Hurry up!”

The trucks roll out. She looks back at the front door. “Good riddance.” She then gets into the back of her limousine and drives away, the wild fire looming down on the Barnes House.

A security guard walks out onto the balcony. “Mrs. Ewing, we’ve been told to evacuate South Fork. There’s a team here to gut the house.”

Cattle is moved into trucks. Trucks drive off.

John Ross is nearly overcome by fumes.

The wild fire reaches an oil derrick and it explodes over the South Fork ranch.

I've finally caught up. So is this the end?

I remember you saying you wanted to make it three seasons but it doesn't really seem like the end leaving things on that cliffhanger and also with Katherine and her and JR's son Robert Wentworth showing up. :cool1

Poor Bobby this is not the first time he's named the father of a child that isn't his!
But at least with Robert he knew there was no chance. It was different with Charlie since he and Jenna had a history.

I'm not surprised to see Robert and Bo hit it off.

I like that Ellie and Anthony are trying to make a go of their marriage.

I love that Bobby went to be with Pam and Christopher in the end. :)

Poor Elena she's so messed up. I wish Steven would talk to her. I think he needs some answers.
She's an idiot for making a play for John Ross though. He is happily married to Pamela Rebecca.

Also I think this story really needs another title. Any ideas what you wanna call it?

It is the end with some things not wrapped up but for the most part Bobby’s story is complete. It just leaves some unanswered issues, but that’s life, there’s always more to it. Seeing John Ross fight the fire was a way to say, here’s Jock, here’s history repeating itself. Robert was meant to go anyway. He could stay, he could go, he could be accepted as family or become a true enemy - the story never ends. Elena doesn’t know John Ross is happily married, she doesn’t even know what done anything wrong. In her mind she’s a victim and even the church won’t change that feeling with in her. She believes it, so that everyday she can look herself in the mirror. Steven has been told the truth by his parents, nothing more and nothing less. It’s Elena’s family who have given him more to chew on. He’s afraid not only for his mother, but for his biological grandmother, what talking to Elena would mean to them. Plus he’s socially awkward to begin with. I’m not sure he can process a world with this woman in it.

Not sure about another title. History Repeats Itself as from the beginning they’re suppose to be characters at least broadly based on the original. Or maybe just South Fork as the story takes places mostly at the ranch, from which John Ross runs the Ewing Empire.

As for a continuation, the next thread, Highland, is a spin off of this one with 3 seasons as well.

Thank you for explaining about why you chose to end the story this way. I am glad Bobby went to be with Pam and Christopher in the end. :)

Then I'll change the thread title to "History Repeats Itself" if that is okay?

Yes I figured Pam and Bobby should grow old together, boring but wonderful.

Sure if you can do that - How about Dallas: History Repeats Itself as it is a Dallas continuation while Highland is another idea with only a few Dallas links. Thank you.

Yeah I'm a moderator so I can change/edit thread titles! :)

I changed this into "Dallas TNT: History Repeats Itself".
I added the TNT to the title to make it clear to the readers that the story picks up after Dallas TNT. I figured it made sense since the main focus of the story was John Ross/Pamela Rebecca and their family. However if you'd want me to drop the TNT I could easily do that, ok?

Also that last update was meant to be posted in the "Highland" thread right?

Thank you. The TNT was a good idea.

Yes the last post was meant for Highland. Can it be moved?
