Instead of my father actually leaving me nothing he left me a series of tasks which nearly cost me you. That part of your brother I get all too well.”

“So what are you doing now?”

“I’ve increased security around here. He is well off enough to take care of them?”

“I’ll make sure of it.”

“Good. I don’t want his children growing up thinking we bankrupted their father.”

“We?”

“We’re in this together. We will take care of what we need to take care of. We always do.”

John Ross hugs her tight and long.

Ellie comes down out of her private jet and greets Anthony. “The rig off Denmark is up and running,” he tells her.

“Good.”

“Full capacity. We’ll have the storage tanks filled in no time. Our people are meeting right now to start selling it throughout Eastern Europe.”

“Under cut Grazneft.”

“The fact that we can meet demand will sell itself. A team’s in Georgia now hammering out the details. How did your trip go?”

“Worked out all the financing we’ll need.”

“Excellent. People were really impressed over our South American mining deal. I told them we need federal support to improve the lives of the people so that nationalization never enters their consciousness. We’ve got friends around the world we need to be fostering.”

“We certainly should be looking to mineral independence, we don’t have enough rare earth in the first place, an you don’t use up what you do have when you can use up what others have on the cheap.”

“We could use you in Washington. I’ve been placed on the board of Burlington Ingersoll and toured their sub dry dock. They need to go deeper and we have the minerals to make that possible.”

“You’ve been busy.”

“I have some friends in OPEC I have to meet with to make assurances. A lot of nervous people out there. But with the Ewing’s in charge of this technology they can be assured the goal is to keep energy prices as high as possible.”

A secretary tries to keep Pamela from barging into Paul’s office. Paul thanks her and confirms his sister is welcome to walk in at any time. The secretary leaves and Pamela walks up to Paul and slaps him hard across the face. “You bastard.”

“Aren’t we both bastards, according to our mother.”

“All this time what’s mattered to you most is getting back at the Ewing’s.”

“My father . . .”

“I don’t care. The Ewing’s didn’t fight anyone any dirtier than they fought my father. But the Ewing’s are me and my family now. Ben’s dead and there’s no coming back from that because of the people you,” poking him in the chest, “did business with.”

“Did John Ross tell your that.”

“Don’t try and screw with the truth Paul.”

“All I’m saying . . .”

“Shut up. You’re not saying anything. Your listening. The only reason you’re not following your dad to prison is because of me. And the only thing keeping Vicktor Sechin from killing what’s become a liability, you, is my husband. So shut the hell up. I want you out of business. Retire. Pick up a hobby. Jenny’s taking over much of the day to day running of the foundations for me and Sue Ellen, support her. Spend time with your children. But this is done. Because if it’s not, you’re not my brother. And if you’re not my brother, heaven help you.”

Jay throws a pool party at South Fork, a couple of dozen hot bodies baking in the Texas sun. Greg walks up with Leslie. Jay says, “You’re late. Get your suite on. Jump in cuz.”

“Wow you weren’t kidding.”

“Parents and Grandma took the kids into town. Aunt Ellie’s out traveling. The places is ours.”

Two bikini clad girls come and pull Jay back to the pool.

In an office a therapist introduces himself to the John Ross, Pamela, Sue Ellen, Steven, Ben, Lilly, and Michael. Pamela says, “We have one other, an older son. He’s a freshman in college.”

“I understand. And thank you for first agreeing to meet here. I think you’ll find being away from your home is a good idea. So how has this missing son been doing?”

John Ross says, “He seems to be fine. At night he’s there for the kids, so they can all fall asleep but he doesn’t seem to be having any issue with what happened.”

Pamela says, “How can’t he?”

“And you live in the house as well?” the doctor turns to Sue Ellen.

“I do,” the family matriarch says. “My daughter comes in and out as well.”

“Is that usually the case?”

“Yes. She’s always been a jet setter. John Ross put a landing strip on the property for her. And there’s my brother-in-law. He doesn’t live in the house but the cottage our back.”

“I see. A close family? Where is he?

“Out drinking with some buddies,” John Ross answers.

“Anyone else?”

John Ross says, “There’s a House on the property where my friend Mateo lives. And Amelie. Anyone else that works on the ranch lives elsewhere.”

“And who is Amelie?”

Pamela answers, “The house keeper. She mostly cooks and oversees everyone else who cleans and takes care of the yard. With Liddy and Michael we’ve hired nannies, but we didn’t want anyone staying in the house so there’s four of them with rotating shifts, including the middle of the night.”

“But you’re all sleeping together so there hasn’t been much to do in the middle of the night.”

“No there hadn’t.

“And my sister’s personal assistant, Randall, when she’s with us, so is he.”

“So there’s a lot of people around.”

“Always.”

“Steven. What do you think about having three new siblings?”

“It’s pretty cool. Jay never went away to college so I’ve always had him around, sort of. But it’s kinda way better to be the older brother.”

“I suppose it is.”

Ellie walks up from the driveway to the back of South Fork. Mateo stops her. “I’ve got something that can’t wait until Monday morning.”

“What is it?”

“Someone went to visit Elena in prison today.”

“What?”

“And lawyers have been snooping around all that money Nicholas Trevino put in accounts in her name.”

“All that drug money she was laundering.”

“I’m not so sure my sister did. What I am sure is she’s dangerous.”

“Well she was found guilty, that’s all that concerns me. She and Trevino were found guilty.”

“What I know she’s guilty of is dealing with those people. My sources tell me it got my brother killed. And my mamita lives with my Tia Teresa unable to take care of herself after a nervous breakdown.”

“That’s not what Uncle Bobby meant to happen. He just wanted her to know the truth. My father didn’t set up your father, not that he wouldn’t have, we all know that he would have. But it was all set up by Cliff Barnes to use Elena. Uncle Bobby wanted your mother to know the truth, and certainly that he, nor any of us, had anything to do with it.”

“That want what caused her nervous breakdown. It was me. I told her what happened to Drew. My sister brought people like Trevino into our lives. She destroyed my family.”

“You know John Ross considers you family.”

“I know. I consider him family.”

“And Elena?”

“Dangerously stupid.”

“Good. So who’s looking into her? It better not be Wendell. I’ve had it with Pamela’s brother. Talk about dangerously stupid.”

“You’ll know as soon as I do.”

Jay sits in the study of a Dallas mansion when a man well into his sixties enters the room and shakes hands with him. “Jay Ewing. How are you?”

“I’m great Mr. Banning. Thank you for seeing me.”

“Of course. I can always make time for the grandson of an old friend. What can I do for you?”

“I didn’t realize you and my grandfather were friends.”

“Well which grandfather,” the man laughs. “JR Ewing and I made some money together, and Cliff and I did. JR didn’t particularly like me working with Cliff. He expected me to pick a side.”

“And you did?”

“I made a lot of money off of working with Barnes Wentworth. The Wentworth’s had very deep pockets.”

“But the Ewing’s gave you your start, so my Uncle Bobby said.”

“True.”

“Well anyway. I heard rumors you’re looking to sell your company and diversify your investments. No one in the family really interested in construction?”

“No there isn’t. Why?”

“I’m hoping we can work something out where you finance me so I can buy it.”

“Why would I do that?”

“Old times between you and my grandfathers.” He hands him a card. “He’ll work out the details for me, draw up the contracts.”

“I just want cash.”

“Then go to a bank, borrow the money.”

“I’m sorry Jay you miss the point.”

He then hands him a tablet. The sounds of porn on it. “That’s your granddaughter. Right?”

“Oh my god.”

“That doesn’t have to go public. I can keep it to myself, for old times shake.”

“Get out of my house you son of a bitch. Do what you want with that filth. I don’t give a damn. That’s her problem not mine.”

“Thought you’d say that. But look closer. See one of those boys. Look familiar?”

His face goes white.

“Yea he’s told me how your whole family’s got off on him.” He switches the video to another porno. “This one’s you isn’t it. You’re a sick freak aren’t you? This video cost me some serious money. I plan on recouping my costs. Call that number and make the arrangements. Your secrets are safe with me.” Jay leaves the tablet with him and walks out.

The Ewing’s sit around the dinner table when Jay comes in. A business idea. But we don’t discuss business at the table.”

“We’re also not late.”

Sue Ellen speaks up. “It’s not like he’s made a habit of it.”

“I guess your grandma’s right.”

Jay sits down and says, “Sorry momma. It’s smells terrific.”

“That’s OK. And thank you.”

“Uncle Bobby, after dinner can I talk to you about a business deal I came across?”

“Sure.”

Pamela says, “I hope you’re not looking to drop out of college.”

“I don’t know momma. Maybe.”

“I really wish you’d finish. I know school’s never been your thing.”

“No it hasn’t. I’m sure Steven will go to school enough for all of us.”

Ben says, “Steven helped me with my home work.

Early in the morning John Ross and Bobby load up the back of the truck. “Uncle Bobby, can I ask your advice?”

“Yea, of course.”

“I’m going in for a colonoscopy tomorrow. A team’s in Georgia now hammering out the details. How did your trip go?” “Worked out all the financing we’ll need.” “Excellent. People were really impressed over our South American mining deal. I told them we need federal support to improve the lives of the people so that nationalization never enters their consciousness. We’ve got friends around the world we need to be fostering.” “We certainly should be looking to mineral independence, we don’t have enough rare earth in the first place, an you don’t use up what you do have when you can use up what others have on the cheap.” “We could use you in Washington. I’ve been placed on the board of Burlington Ingersoll and toured their sub dry dock. They need to go deeper and we have the minerals to make that possible.” “You’ve been busy.” “I have some friends in OPEC I have to meet with to make assurances. A lot of nervous people out there. But with the Ewing’s in charge of this technology they can be assured the goal is to keep energy prices as high as possible.” A secretary tries to keep Pamela from barging into Paul’s office. Paul thanks her and confirms his sister is welcome to walk in at any time. The secretary leaves and Pamela walks up to Paul and slaps him hard across the face. “You bastard.” “Aren’t we both bastards, according to our mother.” “All this time what’s mattered to you most is getting back at the Ewing’s.” “My father . . .” “I don’t care. The Ewing’s didn’t fight anyone any dirtier than they fought my father. But the Ewing’s are me and my family now. Ben’s dead and there’s no coming back from that because of the people you,” poking him in the chest, “did business with.” “Did John Ross tell your that.” “Don’t try and screw with the truth Paul.” “All I’m saying . . .” “Shut up. And if you’re not my brother, heaven help you.” Jay throws a pool party at South Fork, a couple of dozen hot bodies baking in the Texas sun. Greg walks up with Leslie. Jay says, “You’re late. Get your suite on. Jump in cuz.” “Wow you weren’t kidding.” “Parents and Grandma took the kids into town. Aunt Ellie’s out traveling. The places is ours.” Two bikini clad girls come and pull Jay back to the pool. In an office a therapist introduces himself to the John Ross, Pamela, Sue Ellen, Steven, Ben, Lilly, and Michael. Pamela says, “We have one other, an older son. He’s a freshman in college.” “I understand. And thank you for first agreeing to meet here. I think you’ll find being away from your home is a good idea. So how has this missing son been doing?” John Ross says, “He seems to be fine. At night he’s there for the kids, so they can all fall asleep but he doesn’t seem to be having any issue with what happened.” Pamela says, “How can’t he?” “And you live in the house as well?” the doctor turns to Sue Ellen. “I do,” the family matriarch says. “My daughter comes in and out as well.” “Is that usually the case?” “Yes. She’s always been a jet setter. John Ross put a landing strip on the property for her. And there’s my brother-in-law. He doesn’t live in the house but the cottage our back.” “I see. A close family? Where is he? “Out drinking with some buddies,” John Ross answers. “Anyone else?” John Ross says, “There’s a House on the property where my friend Mateo lives. And Amelie. Anyone else that works on the ranch lives elsewhere.” “And who is Amelie?” Pamela answers, “The house keeper. She mostly cooks and oversees everyone else who cleans and takes care of the yard. With Liddy and Michael we’ve hired nannies, but we didn’t want anyone staying in the house so there’s four of them with rotating shifts, including the middle of the night.” “But you’re all sleeping together so there hasn’t been much to do in the middle of the night.” “No there hadn’t. “And my sister’s personal assistant, Randall, when she’s with us, so is he.” “So there’s a lot of people around.” “Always.” “Steven. What do you think about having three new siblings?” “It’s pretty cool. Jay never went away to college so I’ve always had him around, sort of. But it’s kinda way better to be the older brother.” “I suppose it is.” Ellie walks up from the driveway to the back of South Fork. Mateo stops her. “I’ve got something that can’t wait until Monday morning.” “What is it?” “Someone went to visit Elena in prison today.” “What?” “And lawyers have been snooping around all that money Nicholas Trevino put in accounts in her name.” “All that drug money she was laundering.” “I’m not so sure my sister did. What I am sure is she’s dangerous.” “Well she was found guilty, that’s all that concerns me. She and Trevino were found guilty.” “What I know she’s guilty of is dealing with those people. My sources tell me it got my brother killed. And my mamita lives with my Tia Teresa unable to take care of herself after a nervous breakdown.” “That’s not what Uncle Bobby meant to happen. He just wanted her to know the truth. My father didn’t set up your father, not that he wouldn’t have, we all know that he would have. But it was all set up by Cliff Barnes to use Elena. Uncle Bobby wanted your mother to know the truth, and certainly that he, nor any of us, had anything to do with it.” “That want what caused her nervous breakdown. It was me. I told her what happened to Drew. My sister brought people like Trevino into our lives. She destroyed my family.” “You know John Ross considers you family.” “I know. I consider him family.” “And Elena?” “Dangerously stupid.” “Good. So who’s looking into her? It better not be Wendell. I’ve had it with Pamela’s brother. Talk about dangerously stupid.” “You’ll know as soon as I do.” Jay sits in the study of a Dallas mansion when a man well into his sixties enters the room and shakes hands with him. “Jay Ewing. How are you?” “I’m great Mr. Banning. Thank you for seeing me.” “Of course. I can always make time for the grandson of an old friend. What can I do for you?” “I didn’t realize you and my grandfather were friends.” “Well which grandfather,” the man laughs. “JR Ewing and I made some money together, and Cliff and I did. JR didn’t particularly like me working with Cliff. He expected me to pick a side.” “And you did?” “I made a lot of money off of working with Barnes Wentworth. The Wentworth’s had very deep pockets.” “But the Ewing’s gave you your start, so my Uncle Bobby said.” “True.” “Well anyway. I heard rumors you’re looking to sell your company and diversify your investments. No one in the family really interested in construction?” “No there isn’t. Why?” “I’m hoping we can work something out where you finance me so I can buy it.” “Why would I do that?” “Old times between you and my grandfathers.” He hands him a card. “He’ll work out the details for me, draw up the contracts.” “I just want cash.” “Then go to a bank, borrow the money.” “I’m sorry Jay you miss the point.” He then hands him a tablet. The sounds of porn on it. “That’s your granddaughter. Right?” “Oh my god.” “That doesn’t have to go public. I can keep it to myself, for old times shake.” “Get out of my house you son of a bitch. Do what you want with that filth. I don’t give a damn. That’s her problem not mine.” “Thought you’d say that. But look closer. See one of those boys. Look familiar?” His face goes white. John Ross announces, “You’re late.” “I’m sorry. I was taking care of something.” “School work?” “Not really. I had an idea. A business idea. But we don’t discuss business at the table.” “We’re also not late.” Sue Ellen speaks up. “It’s not like he’s made a habit of it.” “I guess your grandma’s right.” Jay sits down and says, “Sorry momma. It’s smells terrific.” “That’s OK. And thank you.” “Uncle Bobby, after dinner can I talk to you about a business deal I came across?” “Sure.” Pamela says, “I hope you’re not looking to drop out of college.” “I don’t know momma. Maybe.” “I really wish you’d finish. I know school’s never been your thing.” “No it hasn’t. I’m sure Steven will go to school enough for all of us.” Ben says, “Steven helped me with my home work. Early in the morning John Ross and Bobby load up the back of the truck. “Uncle Bobby, can I ask your advice?” “Yea, of course.” “I’m going in for a colonoscopy tomorrow. I haven’t told Pamela. Just with all she’s been through, I didn’t want to worry her.” “What’s wrong?” “Stomach pain. Blood in my stool.” “And you haven’t told her?” “She’s been through so much. And I’m so proud of her. I think the kids have really helped. Someone to focus on besides herself. And she hasn’t missed an appointment with her doctor. Or skipped her pills. I just don’t want this added stress.” “Believe me I understand. They're thinking cancer?” “One possibility.” “You should tell her. I understand you want to protect her, but she needs to care for you. Don’t take that away from her.” [/QUOTE]
