EastEnders producers took notice and soon enticed Bissix back to the show. Clare Bates returned to the Square in 2008, arriving dramatically by being tossed out of a moving car. The problem was, the Clare Bates that returned was basically an attempt to redo Clare Devine. It didn’t really work, and within weeks of saying she’d be on the show for “a while”, it was announced that she’d be leaving at the end of her six month contract. Not exactly disastrous, but an example of how a rehash of a popular character from one soap, doesn’t always work on another.</blockquote>
