When <em>Columbo </em>was originally broadcast it was part of<em> Mystery Movie </em>series that used to rotate episodes with others from several different detective series in the same time slot. When I first watched them in the 1970s, ITV split the <em>Mystery Movies</em> into 2 groups with <em>Columbo </em>on a Saturday, rotating with episodes of <em>McCloud </em>and the <em>Tuesday Mystery Movies</em> were rotating episodes of <em>MacMillan and Wife, Tenafly, The Snoop Sisters </em>and <em>Banacek </em>(there might have been other shows as well but I don't remember). This format meant there was less pressure on the producers of <em>Columbo </em>to make more episodes because the network could fill the time slot with shows from the other series which meant they had time to put more emphasis on the quality of the show.</p></blockquote><p></p>
