Pamela was introduced as Richard's bitchy henchwoman therefore I don't find her concern for Lorraine's well-being very interesting to watch. Maybe it's an old soap trope to give a character something to do (as in: worry about another character) when there's nothing going on in his/her own story arc. Definitely ruined, or maybe they never had a clear idea what to do with her. I don't find Melissa ruined in the sense that I couldn't believe she'd do all that crazy stuff, it just didn't look very good. Her never-ending feud with Angela was good entertainment but I felt they took the "oomph" out of it. I'd call Angela's change from antagonist to protagonist (especially in combination with the Peter Stavros romance) the most influential change. Perhaps the same applies to Lance. Instead of ruining lives they became an A-Team adventure Unit battling the dark forces coming from the outside. Ironically, that's why they were not prepared for Michael Sharpe and the St. James brothers.
