What do the Scots (@Barbara Fan etc) who post on these forums make of this?

Do you want a second independence referendum?

Would you vote for Scotland to go it alone in a second referendum or vote to stay as part of the Union?

Just interested to get your thoughts.

Scottish voters have to thank people that voted for Brexit for this. The Scottish government were clear that a material change in the UK's, and by default, Scotland's relationship with the EU, would provide grounds for a second referendum.

At the last election to the Scottish Parliament, the SNP made it clear that if the voters elected a majority of MSPs wanting a new independence vote then the Scottish government would pursue it. Unlike the liars we have in the UK Tory Government, the Scottish government are sticking to their election pledge. The UK government needs to recognise that and give the people an opportunity to vote for or against independence in the new post-EU world. People who oppose independence can make their case during a referendum campaign to persuade voters to vote against leaving the UK instead of trying to block the democratic process.

She has no policies - no thats wrong, she has Only ONE
the only policy she has is to break up the UK and hgod forbid if it happens i will be heading South pronto
Scotland is headoing down the pan under her - failures at so many levels - NHS_ I work there and see it every day, Education, transport, roads, the ferry fiasco, the prosecution of Salmond, the waste of tax payer money

Scotland has one of the highest drugs death, alcoholism, underage pregnancy, heart deaths in Europe

Scotland is a divided, nationalistic and very bigoted country and Im a Scot!

Also the 2016 Referendum was a" once in a lifetime" vote, so how 6 years later is that once in a lifetime

I love seeing the Labour and Tory leaders in Scotland making her squirm and there is a lot of late lately - watch the wee tight mouth get even tighter!

from Covid-19 in Europe.11
12. At the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, 3,000 untested patients and 123 positive patients
were transferred to care homes – Health Secretary Jeane Freeman admitted the SNP “failed”
the social care sector.

Education and Childcare

the SNP assumed office in 2007.13 Additionally, more than 2,600 teachers have dropped or lost
their professional registration over the last five years.14
14. The SNP’s failure to work with the SQA to create a credible and fair moderation system
for exams in 2020 led to a grading system with inequality baked in and rushed u-turns from
Ministers.15
15. Failed to deliver their planned childcare expansion on time after years of opportunity to
improve childcare for families.16
16. There are 578 fewer specialist teachers for children and young people with additional

of the UK following the 2008 crash.28
26. In 2010 the SNP promised 130,000 green jobs by 2020 but instead the number of people
directly employed had fallen to 21,400.29
27. The SNP’s mismanagement of Scotland’s manufacturing base has led to the loss of critical
contracts and jobs in yards such as BiFab.30

28. There are 45,000 young people unemployed in Scotland following Covid-19 but the SNP
young person’s guarantee only provided funding to create 18,000 job opportunities – offering

Environment and Climate Change
29. In 2016 the SNP promised to have the first low emission zone in place by 2018, but their

and from 2009-2019, active travel and transport actually decreased.46
38. Glasgow airport is still without a rail link and after the SNP scrapped not one, but two

is a greater increase than in other parts of the UK. Meanwhile the SNP failed to introduce a

Thank You, Barbara Fan, for your thorough detailing about life in Scotland

I am sorry that the Scottish people are having the difficulties that you have indicated
I have met many people of Scottish ancestry who are good, hard-working, family-loving people,
and I am sure that these people are saddened by these conditions.

I don't know much about the government of Scotland beyond the info in your post
I can tell that you are proud of your country and your heritage,
You seem to have much love and passion for your country.
I respect that immensely.

I respect Scotland in a special way, since Rod Stewart speaks often
about his Scottish heritage with both pride and love.

Once again, Thank You, Barbara Fan, and I wish you and the people of Scotland well
and hopefully conditions will improve.

The people of Scotland repeatedly vote for parties that want another independence referendum. If they were satisfied with the status quo they would vote for a nationalist party such as Labour (which I support). Denying the will of the people will just boost support for the Scottish National Party and is why Nicola Sturgeon can get away with running the government poorly. If people want better government, they need to support a second referendum and put that issue to bed once and for all so MSP can focus on other issues like health, crime and education.

In case people ie you Nicola and your cronies - have forgotten - we had a referendum less than 10 years ago

We voted NO to INDEPENDENCE

Got that Nicola or do you not know what that means? - No means No - just because she wants Yes she goes on and on and on like some spoilt little brat who didnt get her way , but we rejected Yes and voted No, Non, Nien, Nee, Nu, Nej - so move on and accept it and try putting our broken, divided (thanks to your dreadful dictatorship) failing Scotland back together again

Scotland voted to remain part of the UK that was within the EU. As England and Wales voted for Brexit, forcing Scotland to leave the EU against the overwhelming will of Scottish voters, it's entirely legitimate to ask whether people still want to remain in the UK or leave and rejoin the EU.

If the circumstances that lead to a particular referendum result changes significantly, then it is only right that the question is put back to the people to decide if they still agree with their original decision.

People shouldn't be afraid of democracy; let the Scottish people decide, not the courts and not UK government.

Those are some great examples of failed plans!

No pictures, but I would add Ralph Kramden, every attempt by the Castaways to leave Gilligan's Island,
every Batman villain in the 1960's, Lex Luther pre mid-eighties, every Spiderman villain in the original animated series

Come to think of it, it would be a great thread LOL

One of the reasons why Nicola Sturgeon has been able to get away with poor government is because the Scottish Tories (the official opposition) are in total chaos and are totally incapable of holding her to account.

As Nicola Sturgeon said "Let me just reflect on the last few weeks in the life of Douglas Ross, leader - for now - of the Scottish Conservative Party. He called him Boris Johnson to resign, then he U-turned. Then he called on Boris Johnson to resign again, then he U-turned again. He demanded that I follow the mini-Budget, then he applauded Liz Truss for scrapping the mini-Budget. He voted for fracking in England, now I think he welcomes the fact that the fracking ban has been reinstated in England. Just last week or the week before he said that Liz Truss would win the next general election, and days later he welcomes the resignation of Liz Truss."

She went on to say "Deficits right now are created as a result of Westminster decisions and we are about to find out, later in November, the price Scotland is going to have to pay in the form of another wave of Tory austerity, probably in the form of tax rises. Independence is an alternative to the economic mess that the Tories have created."

So independence is a way that Scotland can escape the damage the Conservative Party have inflicted on Scotland and the wider UK. She isn't wrong about that.

If people want better government, they need to support a second referendum and put that issue to bed once and for all
There are some issues that never go away until they pass.
It's similar with the republican movement in Australia. It doesn't matter how many polls show a lack of support, or that one referendum has already failed, those in favour keep pushing for another.
