The World Cup 2022

I was really sorry to see Japan go out last night. They were the better team in the first 90 minutes and to go out on penalties was not deserved. I also loved how the team always cleaned their changing room after each match and left it immaculate. They also left a thank you note in both Arabic and Japanese and a gift of an origami bird.

Their fans were great too and picked up all the litter from the stadium before they left.

I hope England are practising taking penalties

Delighted for Morocco, thought Spain would do it
and sorry for Japan, who played so well

Lovely to see the underdogs doing so well and getting so far in the contest

Will cross my fingers for England and hope they win - dependent on outcome of France match = at the end of the day I hope anyone but Brazil wins

As a Messi fan - the best player Ive ever watched - would like to see Argentina do well

Gutted to see England crash out in last night’s game.

My heart now says that I would like underdogs, Morocco to win it.

However, my head tells me that it will be an Argentina versus France final in which case I would like to see Argentina win it given that it is almost certain to be Lionel Messi’s last ever World Cup tournament and his final chance to hold aloft the famous trophy.

Gutted for England and Harry Kane most of all, really feel for him

The referee was awful and biased against England - they should have had a penalty and more free kicks

I hope Morocco beat France, not a fan of Argentina the team but i am of Messi, he is divine and would like to see him get his hands on that missing piece from his collection

England did too many side passes and back to the goal keeper last night

I almost agree with you. As much as I would like Morocco to win it now that England are out, it does ominously look like an Argentina vs France final. Two great teams so it should be a good match it that is the outcome of the semi-finals but of the 2 teams I would like France to win as I've always been a big fan of Olivier Giroud ever since he played for Arsenal and it would be a great way for him to end his international career.

Well the first semi final was ratherone sided and Croatia never really got into the game

a few touches of Messi Magic, he really is special and I could watch him all day

I do think France will beat Morocco although would love to see Morocco do well and when it comes to the final I hope that Messi gets his hands on the World Cup - just for all the years of pleasure and enjoyment he has brought to the game and for the fact that he isnt a "Show off" (petulant child in brackets) like a certain Ex Man U player for Portugal

one of my favourite Messi stories

So, it is a final between the broad sword consistency of Messi and the flash brilliance of Mbappe.

It has the makings of a great final and it will be interesting to see which of these two great players comes out on top.

One of them will fulfil their footballing destiny on Sunday.

Well that was an exciting, dramatic final.

It really was a truly amazing game.

It had more twists and turns than an anaconda with a hernia.

To be honest, for a moment I really thought that Argentina had thrown it away in the last 10 minutes of normal time and then again in the second half of extra time.

Congratulations to Argentina and well done to Messi the messiah for finally getting his hands on the one piece of silverware that had eluded his trophy cabinet in an illustrious career.

I was supporting France as I've been a big fan of Olivier Giroud since he joined Arsenal and for many seasons was one of our best players. He's 36 now so it almost certainly was his last World Cup and it would have been great for him to have ended his international career with a win. However, the 4 goals he scored for France in the tournament makes him France's top gold scorer ever, over taking Thierry Henry.

Well done to Argentina, especially to Emiliano Martinez who was superb in goal. He was discovered by Arsenal and signed for the club when he was 17. Either way, Arsenal had an input into whichever side won.

The thing about it though is that the taste of defeat for Mbappe and company is not as sour as it would have been for Messi as they have already won the World Cup once.

In contrast, Messi had never won it before.

France did well to finish runners up In the tournament and can be proud of their performance, especially coming so close in a penalty shoot out. Had they won, they would have been the first country to successfully defend the title since Brazil did it in 1962.
