The number of police officers had fallen by 11% due to Tory austerity. Crime has increased and the solving of criminal cases has fallen too. Also significantly, the number of experienced officers that left the police because of austerity (early retirement and other reasons) means that currently a third of police officers have been in the job for less than 3 years. Lack of police officers and a lack of police experience is the reason for the drop in crime detection. This wasn't caused by light touch anything, it was Tory cuts.

To blame Labour for anything after the Tories have been in power for 12 years begs the question why the hell are in government if they have done nothing in all that time.

Every crime metric shows the same rise, including those that use exactly the same methodology of 12 years ago when Labour was in power.

There's a mathematical model that the Home Office run,it's used to predict the ebb and flow of crime.... the model shows that with every X% increase in affluence nationality crime increases X%. Coupled with every X% increases in population, crime increases X%. The country's doing well, and people are in better health and living longer. No big surprise that crime reflects that.

The sort of police officers that won't take selfies with the 2 bodies victim's of murder then tweet "jokes' about "dead birds". The sort of officers that won't stop someone for "being black in charge of an expensive BMW" . The sort of officers that don't sit around Charing Cross Station sends homophobic, racist, vile and abhorrent tweets and social media post about raping their female colleagues... on work time.

The disaster in the police force is the fact that walking faeces find a save haven within the ranks to ply their greasy trade.

Blaming cuts by any sitting administration for all of society's ills is a nonsense. Too many people do nothing to help but expect taxpayer's money to live on.

I agree "blaming cuts (...) for all of society's ills is a nonsense" because it always comes down to conservative/ right-wing lunatics who do these cuts. They don't care about social struggle in the middle- or lower income class. They aren't affected by cuts in the health system or additional costs due to Brexit. They stay in power thanks to voters who don't give a shit about those people who rely on taxpayer's money.

Not really seeing the crux here.

Liz Truss is only the third lady to attain the highest public office in the the UK. Her achievement is worthy of apolitical celebration. As deputy leader then acting leader of the Labour party, I was hoping/wishing/wondering et cetera that Harriet Harman might find favorable winds that deposited her at No 10.

Liz Truss is only the third lady to attain the highest public office in the the UK. Her achievement is worthy of apolitical celebration.

It was highlighted in most reports on her win that I've read (and her age in comparison). But that isn't very remarkable for a party that never helped women much when it comes to equal pay or single parenting. Outstanding would've been a woman with a migrant background. Or just a woman who wins in a general election, repeatedly.

So far Liz Truss hasn't done anything to celebrate. She's just another political opportunist who knows how to play the game. I had a lot respect for Theresa May, she did the best with her terrible situation, trying to clean up what came with Cameron's Brexit referendum. People like Liz Truss didn't help May, they opposed and went with crazy Johnson.

Part of me hopes he does and that he goes on to win. Then the Parliamentary Standards Committee who are investigating whether he lied to Parliament over partygate rule against him (due in December) which will cause him to be suspended as an MP. As a result, he would probably be forced to resign so the Tories would have to select yet another leader and Prime Minister this year. This will all just highlight how ridiculous the Conservative Party has become and how unfit they are to run the country.
