Was Howard Kendall overrated as a football manager? I ask because whilst he was successful with Everton in the 1980s, when he returned in the 1990s, he wasn't successful and nearly got Everton relegated. There was 3 different chairmen throughout the decade going from the 1980s-1990s, Peter Johnson/David Marsh/Philip Carter.
Also, there was 11 players who left the club during the 1980s around the time Howard Kendall first took over, an entire squad basically:-
GK - George Wood
DF - Mick Lyons
DF - Billy Wright
DF - Alan Harper
DF - Ian Snodin
MF - Andy King
MF - Trevor Ross
MF - Steve McMahon
ST - Peter Eastoe
ST - Asa Hartford
ST - Gary Lineker
Discuss.
It's THE truth, just as bad as ex Manchester City/Liverpool Matt Busby taking the Manchester United manager job. The small consolation was Matt Busby was successful as a manager and not a failure when compared to Mark Hughes at Manchester United/Everton etc.
