It's one of the reasons why prime and daytime serials don't resonate with me anymore. When the writers decide to place a major character in harms way you know they're going to survive because the actor portraying said character has probably signed a 7 year contract. It's all counter-intuitive. The same reasoning could be applied to Sheila and Deacon but more so Sheila. I'd imagine most casual viewers would be looking at the character of Sheila and thinking, considering her past the most logical thing to do would be for any character to slap a restraining order on her. Of course this doesn't fit the narrative the writers are going for here but when viewers are questioning how dumb are the Forrester's for allowing this woman back into their lives we begin to question why we are watching this crap. Sheila might have been fun in the past but now it has become comical. Deacon is something else. He has payed for his sins. I've always liked this character/actor. There is a depth to him which should be explored further. I recall some terrific scenes between him and Stephanie back in the day when she had Deacon open up about his youth. It was confronting and raw but you knew both actors were relishing the scenes. From the little I've seen this time around Sheila should only be used for short stints and then disappear. Deacon on the other hand I'd prefer to see stick around. I'd like to see the writers channel the characters of JR and Sue Ellen Ewing and enthuse their traits into Brooke and Deacon. You know they're bad together but you can't keep your eyes off them. But they have to give Deacon something to do other than drifting from one residence to another.
