The best part of a few decades, I should think. And this is possibly the first time I've sought it out to watch. It's one of those films that seemed to be on TV quite frequently, and I got drawn into it after catching the beginning.</p> <p style="text-align: center"></p> <p style="text-align: center">Lots I'd forgotten. Like how dopey Shelley Duvall seems when playing Wendy for much of the film. It was like she was on quaaludes or had a traumatic head injury or something. It had the effect of making her seem unlikely to survive by her wits, which set up the latter part of the film well. I hadn't twigged before that Scatman Crothers was in the film. His name either passed me by or didn't mean anything on previous viewings. And in a decent sized role, as well. He kind of preceded LL Cool J being in every other horror film a couple of decades later. Jack's descent into madness seemed to happen much quicker than I remember. Perhaps I'd previously watched the longer version, rather than the European edit I saw tonight. Or perhaps being familiar with the plot made it go by quicker.</p></blockquote><p></p>
