Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) I feel a bit bad that I still haven't got round to watching the Alec Guinness series, but this film made a very nice introduction to the story (albeit probably a very simplified one). This is a very nice looking film. Murky, grainy and dark, with some nice period touches. It generally captures the look of the early Seventies quite well, and the language used and its delivery is mostly era-appropriate with a couple of passing exceptions ("fired" in place of "sacked" sounded a little wrong to me). It's also very nicely cast, again with a passing exception or two (I really wish Michael Fassbender had been available to play Tarr as the actor they ended up with didn't do subtle). And Kathy Burke trying to talk posh was a bit of a giggle, just because it's Kathy Burke). Gary Oldman is as fascinating as ever, and John Hurt appearing is never a bad thing.
