While I don't think it's as good a film as The Shining, it has quite a different tone and story. It's missing the oppressive, claustrophobic atmosphere, and instead of the psychological element it's more overtly supernatural which I think makes it less frightening. But it's an interesting journey for the main characters and like I said, the way it's linked back to the original film is nicely done. (It did help, though, that I went in trying not to think of it as a sequel, but as a new story that's partially related).</blockquote>
