A Irish Goodbye (2022) This was the winner of the Best Live Action Short Oscar at last week's Academy Awards so I wanted to see what was so good about it why it won. It's about 2 estranged brothers, Turlough and Lorcan, the latter of which has who has Down's Syndrome. Their mother has recently died Turlough has only returned to sell her farm and take his brother to their aunt so she can look after him. Lorcan isn't happy as he wants to continue living on the far. Their mother's priest tells them that she left a list of all the things she wanted to do before she died and Lorcan suggests they do them on her behalf and Turlough reluctantly agrees before being told there are 100 items on the list. The film then follows the brothers as they do a series of tasks over which they bond. It's a lovely heart-warming film that is beautifully written, acted and directed and there's a nice minor twist at the end. I can see scope to extend the story to a full length feature which I hope they will do because the short was well worth watching.
