I think we all know what DALLAS did right... And we can agree on what it did wrong.... three things killed the series. Bobby's Return- should NEVER have been permanent. Duffy had no leverage or power at this point so why listen to him? A coma, a kidnapping, plane crash, anything that didn't tell the audience he was deader than dead. Killing him off made some good drama, but not sticking to it made the show a joke and shaved about 5 years off of quality stories. I thought of three superior ways Bobby's exit could have been handled and none ruined the credibility of the series. JR's slow defanging. One of the best villains in all of television and soap programs. A true star performance from Hagman and often times I agreed with JR, Hagman had magnetism and conviction. In this post return years JR is a loser, gets beaten by everyone and looks like a fool at every turn. Even Sue Ellen beats him. I think even Cliff beat him a time or two. Pamela's exit. Did she die? I guess. Miserable excuse for an explanation- A NON explanation. I don't care about how attached we were to VP, Margret Michaels was a damn near twin, good actor and could have played Pam brilliantly, IF they had let her emerge from the fire car crash with some body issues and some good, ole fashion drama with Bobby... something that could have carried all the way to the final episode... a real episode, not the ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE, crap. We could have had her and Bobby remarry, with Victoria. On the honeymoon, it's MM.... its always better to keep the character and lose the actor, than lose both and allow the show to suffer for it and it does. I stop watching after Pam's exit. Sue Ellen, Donna's Exists- strong characters, or least in their later years should not have been let go. NO ONE good replaced them. Donna marrying a Senator would have been interesting. Sue Ellen gaining power and making JR pay was always fun.
