Olivia Newton-John’s ‘Grease’ Outfit Sells for $405,000

Actress/singer wore iconic leather jacket and black pants during “You’re the One That I Want”

Olivia Newton-John’s iconic Grease leather jacket and black pants sold at auction Saturday for $405,000, more than double its pre-auction estimate.

The combined outfit, which the actress-singer wore during the film’s closing performance of “You’re the One That I Want,” was the top-selling item in a Julien’s Live auction dedicated to Newton-John’s personal collection; the black leather jacket itself sold for $243,200 and the pants had a high bid of $162,500.


All proceeds from the sale of the Grease jacket and pants will benefit the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre, while a portion of the 500+ items also sold at auction will also go toward that organization; in 2018, Newton-John revealed she is battling cancer for a third time.

Other notable items at the Newton-John auction included the actress’ custom-made “Pink Ladies” jacket – monogrammed “Sandy” – from the Grease shoot ($50,000) and a Grease movie poster signed by Newton-John and her co-star John Travolta; expected to fetch $1,000, the movie poster ultimately sold for $64,000. An outfit the singer wore during a performance of “Physical” on the Merv Griffin Show in 1981 hit a high bid of $31,000.

I just love her and the movie Grease ........I wish her well with her third battle with cancer.

I know its a very famous outfit, but thats a huge amount of money. Although, its good that its going to the benefit the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre,

I wonder what the person who buys things like this does with them, is it an investment, are they carefully stored away to preserve them or do they display them somewhere?

I wish Olivia Newton-John well, it must be tough for her having to battle cancer yet again.

They probably have a room to put all their collectibles in I would think? ONJ did say in another article that she would love the people that bought them to take a picture with them and send them to her. I would also like to think that these people bought these things not just for the outfits but to support ONJ? I guess when you have that much money you can get anything you want.

Olivia Newton-John reunited on Friday with Grease co-star John Travolta for an event celebrating the hit musical in Florida.

It comes after an anonymous buyer recently returned Olivia's classic leather jacket from the film. According to Reuters upon returning jacket the buyer decided to instead donate the $243,000 winning bid to the star's cancer treatment centre. The buyer of the jacket described himself as Olivia's 'No. 1 fan' and wished her "God speed for a quick recovery." Olivia said she plans to put the jacket on display at her Melbourne cancer centre.

"That is the most incredibly generous thing to do for me," she told the anonymous bidder. "I am so grateful, and I am just blown away."




What a fantastic gesture from the buyer, Olivia must have been so touched by this. I also think both Olivia and John still look great in the above photo

Olivia was made a dame, the female equivalent of a knight, for her singing and acting and for her charitable work supporting cancer research. Dame Olivia said she was "grateful beyond words"

The singer, who was born in Cambridge but has spent most of her life in Australia, said the honour had filled her with pride in her British roots.... "I am very proud of my British ancestry and so appreciative to be recognised in this way".




I didn't know until now that she had been born in England.

I read it yesterday on the interned that Olivia is now Dame Newton-John, , but i'm glad Olivia Newton-John is finally get some recognition for her cancer research.
Well as a fan i already knew so was born in Cambridge in England, but Australia has always being her home since she moved to Australia when she was only five years old but she never forgot her roots in England

She still looks great. Olivia Newton was the first concert I ever went to - somewhere around 1981 on the tour for Physical. It's nice to see people remember her after all these years, especially since, as far as I knew she rarely toured and also hasn't been in movies in a long time.

Olivia's latest movies was "A Few Best Men" from 2011 that was suprising a very good funny movie, and she also played a supporting guest on "Sharknedo 5" with her daughter Chloe.

You where very lucky indeed be proud of that, and yes Olivia always ends her shows with "I Honesly Love You" even in the 70's she ends her show with that song, like on ther live album "Love Performance"

I only know Olivia did one "Totally Hot World Tour" in 1978. and she did just one concert in the Netherlands, after that she never did a concert in the Netherlands ever again. I wish she also did a world tour during her Physical tour but then still i was to young to go, but she only did a big tour in Amercia between 1982 and 1983, she was really at the peak of her career, i wish she contiuned that, but i think Madonna became the new deal n music, and Olivia started for longing for a prived life and wants to be a mother also.

Olivia is a very strong person, anyone with that stage 4 cancer would stay home, but Olivia is enjoying her life as long as possible as she can, and is she would lose her battle, she had a great life, and reach more thing in life then any other person, she must be proud of that indeed.

Olivia has indeed a beautiful voice that still moves me anytime i listen to a album from her, i became a huge Olivia fan when i saw the movie Grease and Xanadu for the first time when i was 9 years old, and still her music touches me and i gues it will be that way, she was also the start for me when i discovering "country/pop/mor" musictyle, it's a genre music style that will always be my favorite music style.

This was so good we saw it on TV I always love seeing the 2 of them back together again. It's also was a promo for HBO's new musical series Rydell High.



I am not sure when it's going to air but I will give it a chance but without John and Olivia I have my doubts about how good it will be.

Olivia Newton-John has given fans a health update amid her battle with stage-four metastatic breast cancer.
The singer and actress, 72, said on Thursday she was 'feeling great' and was enjoying self-isolation at her country estate in America during the pandemic. "I feel great and I'm so grateful I'm able to be in the countryside," she said on Channel Nine's Show today. "I have my animals and my husband. This has actually been one of the rare times in my whole life where I have been in one place for more than three weeks."

The Grease star also said that her cancer diagnosis means she has to be extra vigilant during the COVID-19 crisis. "I'm in that bracket with an underlying condition and have to be careful... everybody is going through dreadful times and having to worry about their immune systems but people with cancer have had this concern always,"

Olivia's interview comes two days after she announced her new foundation to help other cancer sufferers.
