What Type Of Dallas Series Do You Want To See Now?

With the thread above hinting at possible good news, what are your ideas for a new show?

A continuation could take place in the present. The events of the past few years could be explained. Christopher's ghost could appear to comfort Bobby, who's still grieving his loss. Perhaps the ghost of Pam could appear as well. I'd like to see Bobby married to Tracey, as I really liked their brief fling.

A reboot could go in a million directions.

1. An animated series for Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. A modern update of Digger's Daughter and what follows. They would not have to worry about actors coming and going.

2. A series that follows a generational saga like Roots. It starts with the first Ewings and Southworths who came to America.

3. A regular continuation with new actors in the original roles. It could follow a similar path like the original but be able to divert and do it's own thing.

As a brand new series, a complete reboot without being all PC. By that I mean that you don't change men for women and turn the show on it's head, you keep the characters as they were but tell completely different stories.

TV today is so very different to what it was when Dallas was on the air all those years ago and so I doubt we'll ever be looking at 20+ episodes a season.

So I would start the show with a birth and a death and go from there with a series discovering who the Ewings are, who that father of that baby is and under what circumstances the death occurred.

But the heart of the show must be about The Ewings & Ewing Oil/Energy.

Also, power and wealth has changed so much since the original series, so they really need to ramp that up - a few cattle and a helicopter won't reflect that anymore.

Oh...and Southfork should remain the same with the original looking interior.

The thing with preequels is you have make sure you correspond with the original series. I would like to see Jock training JR on Ewing Oil that would be interesting to watch. So long as you have good actors, the person in charge knows what they are doing and have decent writers.

There's been some talk about something maybe happening with Dallas again on TV. There are several different things they could do such as:

Have another continuation - something like TNT did where they use as original actors (we lost Larry Hagman and Ken Kercheval but still have Linda Gray, Patrick Duffy, Steve Kanaly, and Charlene Tilton) and some new actors as well. This would be present day - 2020

Make a prequel - It would have all the original characters just like Lorimar Dallas except it would be set in an earlier time. I'm thinking something that would cover 1968 - 1978 with flashbacks to earlier times as well. We'd see Bobby in his football days and his "playboy phase", JR as a young man learning the business from Jock while Jock builds Ewing Oil from a small company into an empire. See how Jock got it done! Utilize extended flashbacks to see how Jock and Miss Ellie raised their sons and what major events occurred in the formative years of the boys that made them become the way they did. Watch Pam and Cliff being raised by Digger and Aunt Maggie in extended flashbacks as well. See major events in their formative years. See what Pam and Cliff were like when Pam was in her late teen and early twenties, and Cliff graduating from law school and beginning his career of trying to avenge Digger.

Have a reboot - the would be recasting all the characters and telling new stories - an attempt to outdo the original! This would go right back to 1978.

Have a two hour made for TV Dallas movie

I voted a continuation. I just don't see a studio wanting to go too far into the history of Dallas unless it was very popular at the current time. If TNT Dallas was a huge success then I would see that but it wasn't. I wouldn't want to see anyone but the original actors playing the original roles from that time. The magic of Dallas was for me also the time it was in, 1978-1991.

I have major doubts anything will happen but a series based around Ewing Oil/Energies would be where I'd go. Keep the Ewings the main characters but more international. I thought TNT Dallas was okay with that but got too bogged down with the Rylands and the drug cartel stuff. Focus on a forty-year old John Ross with children with Bobby, Sue Ellen and a few other being supportive characters. I would keep Christopher alive and not have him as a rival to John Ross. I also would have WestStar as Ewing Energies' main US rival in their international dealings.

That's what would appeal to me.

At this stage I would prefer that Dallas is left alone, too many of the core original actors are no longer with us.

Rumours about remakes, if nothing else, highlights a lack of imagination nowadays - can nobody produce anything original anymore?

I would far rather remember Dallas for the greatness of Larry, Linda, Patrick, Victoria, Jim, Barbara, Steve, Charlene and Ken than a remake that simply isn't up to scratch.

Right now there are a lot of new sequel shows that seemed to have learned from other people´s mistakes. Maybe I´m the only one here, but I love both Star Trek spin-offs (Discovery & Picard), and the recent new The L Word: Generation Q. Also, the plans and cast for the thirtysomething sequel are more than appealing, and has the creators and main cast of the original aboard. I still think there is hope for the right Dallas sequel if the roadrunner (sorry, I meant showrunner...it must be my mind playing me tricks with Daffy Duck, wonder why...) is not called Cynthia from the House of Ciders...

I'm all about the prequel - in addition to the above, the Gary/Val/Lucy/JR sequence is an explosive main storyline for a season right out there for the taking.

Of course, since this is a fantasy about something that's very very unlikely to happen, I'll add that it should be a high-production-value cinematic production along the lines of Mad Men, with great attention to period detail and character development, and not as much about pushing young beefcake actors and sexy young actresses (although admittedly that was a big part of even original Dallas) and quick scene cuts and contemporary pop music like TNT Dallas and other B-level newish series.

I'll accept only two possible scenarios with my first choice as a top priority.

1. A continuation including Patrick, Linda and Josh reprising their roles as Bobby, Sue Ellen and John Ross. Structure the continuation around these three with a solid foundation focused solely on the Ewing family, Ewing Energies and Southfork. The Ewing family has to be the main focus. From the aforementioned characters allow the story to expand to include secondary characters but never, ever allow those secondary characters to become the fodder of story-telling.

2. I will accept Dallas being told with the same characters but in a different era. It would begin at Southfork on the morning of December 8 1941 with Jock reading The Dallas Morning News outside on the patio where he is joined by Miss Ellie.

If anyone wishes to know why this date is important then google it. This would be an interesting time to tell a different story about the Ewing family since we know the backstory how the Ewing/Barnes fight began with Dallas: The Early Years.

I'd use World War II as a backdrop to tell the story of Miss Ellie being left behind on Southfork with JR and Gary while Jock was off in Europe. We could witness the affair unfold between Jock and Margaret Hunter while he was stationed in Britain during 1944.

Thirdly. A re-telling of Dallas with new actors playing those same roles may constitute a side look from me but I'd imagine I keep walking past the television on the way to the bar for a stiff drink.

I want to see a well-written story with several timelines, eg flashbacks from the past and even some old clips from the original redubbed. Character-driven, not something for shock value like "Mama likes". That´s why I know they´ll never be able to do my perfect sequel, but I´ll do with something Cider-less...

I don’t know ... but I think the fact it’s hopefully even being discussed shows what a much loved series Dallas is.

But I couldn’t watch Sue Ellen being played by anyone else. The JLo and CZJ rumours of yester year nearly put me over the edge.

It's a series which holds fond memories for viewers Sarah. This could explain why it drew such good ratings for TNT when it premiered back in 2012. What followed though left a bitter taste for many fans.

In the right hands it could work. I also believe Dallas now belongs on a streaming platform, far away from the pressure cooker that is commercial television.

I've found that facebook page but who owns it? Facebook states the confirmed page owner as Turner Broadcasting Company. Perhaps it's Warner Bros. way of keeping interest going in the vain hope people will buy up those last remaining TNT Dallas DVD's. I'm still curious if the complete Dallas story will end up on HBO MAX.
