In just over two years, Emmerdale will be celebrating it's half century...

I wonder if they'll be planning something new and exciting.

Lucky it wasn't this year.

They've got to have some ideas going on.

I hope they do a special celebratory documentary covering the whole 5 decades...

As for the show itself, I hope whatever they do is contemporary and reflects the present time. Like when they had the 40th anniversary week of episodes in 2012, people were saying that the episodes shouldn't revolve around the newer characters and have something that references the past.

I've recently been rewatching the 20th anniversary week of episodes from October 1992, and there were no returning characters, no references to any past characters or storylines, and the newcomers, at the time, did feature prominently - Neil Kincaid & Lorraine Nelson among them.

As long as they do celebrate the past as in before 1994.

The issue with the 40th anniversary documentaries is that it focused too much on the recent times

It’s just nice to have throwbacks to the 70a and 80s and not just from 2007 onwards

I don’t recall them doing anything for the 20th anniversary, they did however celebrate its 21st anniversary in 1993 and while they celebrated the current characters they also celebrated the past too

It has to be remembered though that anything that happened in the 70s and 80s, and even 90s may not have relevance to events of today, as things change and move on. Hence why we don't hear about the Skilbecks, Whiteleys, Bates, Glovers, etc. anymore, as they're long gone.

Yes, I do remember a celebratory behind the scenes documentary on television. An extended version of which appeared on the 21 Years of Emmerdale videotape, along with the first episode, and a montage of marriages, affairs, and deaths from the show.

I'm sure they'll think of something. It's still months off yet.

They have thought of something.

They knew last year it was their 60th, so they were obviously working on storylines that would culminate at the end of this year. They had a big explosive story, something that would apparently topple the tram crash for the 50th.

COVID changed all that and they have ditched the explosive storyline. They have other twists and turns in their future plans for the end of the year. It just won't be what they originally planned.
