Coronation Street How would you kill of Ken Barlow?

With the glorious frightening prospect that William Roache may leave his role as Ken Barlow in the coming years, how would you end the character's life in the show. Would you give him a happy ending or kill him off in violent fashion?

Personally I'd have him taking ill in his home, with his family around him and then a long drawn out death stream where voices and images of all the people he's being friends and neighbours with over the years echoing in his head as he slows drifts to sleep.

That's my semi-tenable plot idea, a murder suicide with him killing half the younger cast then himself is also an option.

I dont want to see Ken - King of Corrie - written out as he is Mr Coronation Street

But id like him to die with a smile on his face

and

He reunites with Martha :l9:

(Ken recently had an affair with an actress. She wasnt Nicole Kidman or Glenda Jackson, she lived on a "tugboat" - It was a barge!!!)

I agree with @Barbara Belle Of The Ball. Ken shouldn't be killed off.

If William Roache ever wanted to leave Corrie they should keep the door open for his return and only kill of the character when the sad day arrives that Mr Roache is no more and the character should die off screen.

He shouldn't be killed off by the producers at this point no, but if William Roache decides he wants to leave I think there'd be something quite poignant about the character actually dying on the street rather than bollocking off to Canada or a care home.

I don’t want him to be killed off, I think once Ken and characters like Rita leave Corrie is on a downward slope the way it currently is.

That time will eventually come though.

However according to Les Battersby, it will go on for another century!

I'd be staggered if terrestrial telly lasted another 100 years. We'll all be dead by that point anyway.

It might end up on a streaming service, which if it finds the right balance it could remain, but I could imagine that becoming very overblown and sensationalised to appeal to US audiences.

Speak for yourself
My life expectancy is currently 121, according to my insurance estimate charts. So I could be here in another 100 years easily.

They should do what they did with Noele Gordon in Crossroads, send him off on an endless world cruise. Then cast members could meet up with him from time to time somewhere exotic like Venice.

I still haven’t forgiven Charles Denton for axing her.

Did Noelle not die in a fire? I'm very confused. I was terrified of fire as a child and have a memory of the motel going on fire when my Granny was watching Crossroads.

Then they put Sue Ellen in a fire too. TRAUMATISED.

Meg Mortimer was thought to have died in the fire but instead sailed off on the QE2 in 1981. And reappeared two years later in Venice. She was planned to return from time to time from 1985 but Noele Gordon died.

Can’t he regenerate into James Roache, who played his father, William Roache, in The Road to Coronation Street and also played Ken’s evil grandson, James, playing the son of a character played by his half-brother, Linus, who was previously Peter Barlow and ended up as another son of Ken’s? Harry Hill wrote that Ken Barlow is the one constant in all our lives.

No he can't. This isn't Hollyoaks.

When he first came in I got the impression Daniel Osborne was being groomed to be the new Ken Barlow given some of his mirroring character traits but they seem to have moved away from that to make him a lot shiftier.

More Doctor Who really. Ken’s descendants (played by William Roache’s sons) introduced in 2010 turned out to be not too pleasant. But yeah. Still, William Roache keeps repeatedly saying that he wants to be on the show when he is a centenarian. He was saying it multiple times last week. He currently doesn’t ever intend to leave.

Indeed but it doesn't take a genius to see that his health is slowly declining and the chances of him being on the show until he's 100 is slim. I know he looks after himself but this is him a year ago talking about living healthily, and this is him sometime in the past few months struggling to read an autocue.

And yes, feel free to bookmark this if he makes it.
