I remember seeing it in the theatre and I liked it a lot more than I thought I was going to. But I prefer the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies personally.

Yes, I think the Raimi/Maguire films captured the feel of Spider-Man's world better, with most of the supporting characters really well cast.

That said, I do think the Holland/Watts films have by far the best Spidey mask and overall the best costume (apart from the thick black go-faster stripes and the narrowing/widening eyes). Holland also looks closer to my ideal of Peter Parker visually (and Garfield even more so), but was played too young and the babbling teen enthusiasm bit was very wearing (it was possibly fun to watch for actual teenagers, if they could get past Holland clearly being much older than he was acting).

Professor Marston and the Wonder Women
2017 biopic about psychologist William Moulton Marston and the polyamourous relationship he shared with two women whose combined attributes seem to have been the inspiration for Wonder Woman.

I've been meaning to watch this and had forgotten all about it.

According to the film, Marston was also the inventor of the lie-detector, which became Wonder Woman's Lasso of Truth,

This is true. WMM created an early version of the polygraph.

and he incorporated his psychological theories into the comic to encourage girls not to be afraid to show their strengths.

There was a very can-do feminist philosophy running through early WW comics. But he also incorporated a lot of his kinks into the comic, and the series became infamous for its regular portrayal of bondage.

And it wasn't just WW who was regularly bound. Steve Trevor also had more than his share.

Ocean's 8
I've seen the original Ocean's 11 (1960) but the Clooney remake didn't really appeal to me and I haven't seen the sequels. On the other hand, I like Sandra Bullock so I decided to give this spin-off a go. At its heart it's a fairly standard heist movie but it's played entertainingly.

New Year’s Eve- star studded cast and nicely entertaining. The outtakes at the end were brilliant especially the one with Robert De Niro. Save it for next year if you haven’t seen it

@Ukdallasfan I totally agree with you on the movie New Year’s Eve. The cast alone was just amazing to me at the time. It just seemed like everyone you could think of made a cameo in that movie.

Contagion from 2011 (was on telly last night)
With the Covid-situation now, it felt fitting to watch. I haven't seen it before, but I bet it wouldn't have felt so disturbing and scary if I had seen it before this pandemic. This felt like a documentary in a way.

Twelve In A Box (2007)

A really nice concept with some great quirky characters and situations. Very much a precursor to Knives Out. But it was frequently very flat and lifeless and not as funny as it seemed to think it was. Which made it seem less clever (which is a shame, because there were some nice twists).​

A season of Desperate Housewives with Stepford Wives and The Skeleton Key. And then there's some racial stuff in it but it's too wacky to take it seriously.
The posture and street talk that was supposed to make the black characters look very "black" was a bit lame imho but maybe other people enjoy that kind of comedy.
I failed to see the relevance.
All in all it doesn't really excel in any of the points and thrills they're tyring to make and I only finished it because I wanted to see the comeuppance part.
Not because of their evil deeds or believes but simply because they were terribly annoying.
It's not really bad for a TV movie if you've got nothing else to watch, except that I do have a lot of stuff to watch.
"Get out", indeed.

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (2020)

It was worth watching for the outstanding performances of both Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman but it was shame that the storyline wasn't more compelling. The film looked very much like a play shot for the big screen without doing more to open it out more for a cinematic audience. It wouldn't surprise me if both lead actors receive nominations when the award season comes around.

This is essentially the same story as The Sound of Music. A series of coincidences sees Sophia Loren become maid to grumpy widower Cary Grant and his estranged children, and - spoiler alert! - fall in love with him.

Le Jeu (2018) aka Nothing To Hide

A great little French film. It seemed to be made on a low budget because almost all the action takes place in one location but that just added to the tension and unpredictability of the film. Great tight screenplay and excellent performances from all the cast. It's about a group of friends, most of them are couples, who decide to play a game at a dinner party in which they put all their phone on the table and they have to read out and share any calls, emails or messages they get during the evening. There are many unexpected revelations and many plot twists and an ending that literally changes everything. Well worth a watch.

I watched this today and really liked it. Unusual themes for a family film but very enjoyable, plenty of humour and great voice performances. A real contender for Best Animated Feature when awards season comes around.
