Springhill

Carrie Fairchild

Telly Talk Star
After years of only having a handful of short clips online, a full episode of mid-90's supernatural soap Springhill has washed up on YouTube. As it happens, it is the series finale and while I don't really know much about the characters and the plot history, it's still interesting to see. The show is mostly forgotten today but is notable in that it's one of the early credits of prolific writers Russell T Davies, Paul Abbott and Frank Cottrell Boyce.

The first season (available on DVD) was brilliant, the second was a mess. I don’t think I made it to the end so this’ll be interesting.

I'd looked at buying the season one DVD years ago but was waiting to see if season two would be released, as I didn't want to spend €50 on an incomplete series.

I've only got very vague recollections of this show (mainly the opening titles). I thought it went out at teatime on Channel 4 but based on the continuity announcement over the end credits, it looks like season two aired in an early morning breakfast TV slot. Unless that was a rerun?

Personally, I'd say Season 1's worth it on its own, but yeah it wasn't cheap.

I think it was shown in the evenings on Sky One and then repeated on C4 as and when. Maybe by the end, they'd sort of given up on it.

I'll keep my eyes peeled on eBay as it seems to be the only place it's available these days.

I'd a look at a Twitter account that posts old TV listings and it appears that series one was aired on Channel 4 in a 6pm slot in 1997 while series two aired weekday mornings in mid-1998 (the listing I saw was for 11:30am).
