How long will it take us to get to 10,000 posts?

Long Lashes

Telly Talk Enforcer
There was a time 'Lashes and I were posting so much in this thread (2018-2019) that we'd figure it would be 2024 when we hit 10,000 post. At times we could go through a page within a few days. As long as Telly Talk remains we'll get there ... so keep posting.
Good advice Mistltoe :D

That's what I thought. My oldest, Snowie, turned four last month and know you had Orkie beforehand.
So that makes my Orkie between 4 and 5 .. I think. With Christmas comming a lot of Orchids have appeared in TESCO recently, some of the colours actually look luminous.

I'll look out for any unwanted discounted ones after christmas ;)

At times but I try to keep away from the "Last Chance" shelf that they appear. I do think the orchids that have dropped their blooms do sell when reduced by 75%. I do wonder if they ever throw any away. My last one was last month, luckily it's roots were good. A few I got in August had lost most of their roots and I had to use all my knowledge in orchid care to save them. So far they have remained alive and (fingers crossed) they will recover in time.
I wonder if they throw any away as well? that would be a shame.

We could do with a massive empty field somewhere where all unsold plants could be planted and be allowed to live wild and free .

Leeks ... the TT Cafe dishwasher has one of those. I've been meaning to tell you that. ;)
Does it? o_O

.. no worries, I'll get my Telly Talk Shirtless Firemen to fix it just for me :p

Beloved Streetie is still alive in December. We all still live within the Age of Streetie for now. She still loses a few leaves a week and has some minor leaf growth but still not looking good. These dark days of Winter will be hard on her. I just worry one day she'll just give up as she's been through a lot. I just enjoy the days I have with her.
Aw how is she now? is she still hanging on for Christmas. Strreetie will always be a legend.

Please keep us informed when you purchase your next Poinsettia. Will this be the fifth or sixth?
I've got one Mistletoe!
2023-child-christmas-animation.gif

... I think this is my Fifth. Is number five the charm?

Whenever I find a good photo of Streetie I'll share it. She'll not changing colors surely this year, she didn't last year as well. She's gotten leggy as I worry about pruning her last Spring and Summer as she wasn't too well then either. Love and attention is all I can give her at this time. This is surely her fifth (forth with me) Christmas so she has had a long life.
Streetie is in the best caring hands :gotcha: ... I'll take a photo of my new Poinsettia soon to show you my friend, her name is Matilda which is supposed to mean'strong and healthy' so we shall see ..Lol! You don't have a Matilda do you Mistletoe? if you do I can think of another.

Enjoy the rest of your week

I can't imagine that somehow!

I think it's great that we can all have a good old natter about anything.

Let's natter away.
I'm with you @SueEllen's a drunk tart & unfit Mary .. nattering is good for the soul, thats what I tell myself anyway

I'm STILL laughing when I read your name, its genius especailly the 'Unfit Mary' bit , it really cracks me up .. Lol!

I've got one of those!

I'm noticing this more and more and not just posties. It's usually men and they're wearing shorts, no matter what the weather. Just looking at them gives me Frost bite.
They are everywhere aren't they. Maybe they're trying to look hard .in the cold weather? :D I'm far too soft to go out like that in winter.

Hope you're all ready for Christmas and that you get some time off work

I was just reviewing last nights offerings and... yikes! Seems that I had a lot to say, while bouncing around on this laptop. You'd be surprised how long it takes to magic up my posts, hence often losing my train of thought and straying off into God only knows. Late night candlelight is a blessing and curse and the humble sinner rolls with it.
You're not alone @B.I.G Mash-up @ Biggie's Manger :D I often have a lot to say as well.

I see you've been here since 2016, can I ask how you found this platform and why you've stayed active for 7 years? I stumbled across TT when Emmerdale had a storyline that was not the usual teatime fodder (Laurel and Jai were planning to abort the pregnancy because the child had Downs Syndrome) and I was curious what other Emmerdale fans thought about it. After circling back a number of times I thought why not join... what's the worst that could happen, I'll be ignored or kicked off the platform for saying something super dumb... but yeah, so far only one warning and one member cutting and pasting the definition of "gibberish" in response to what ever magic I offered up. Not bad right?
Very interesting to read this Biggie, thanks for telling us how you came you be here and I'm so glad you found Telly Talk, it wouldn't be the same without you. Just think .. I'd never have smoked the pipe of peace or sat under the Lightening tree  .. I always enjoy reading your posts.

Yes I have been here since 2016 .. yet it only feels like I've been on here for a couple of years and yes of course you can ask how I found Telly Talk and why I'm still here.

I was a massive Big Brother fan, its all Mr L's fault he got me watching and them after a few years he got bored with the show and stopped watching so I had no one to natter to about the show, because anyone else who watches it usally keeps quiet and denys they do.

Anyway, one day I googled Big Brother Forums and a few came up, I was very nervous so didn't want to join a huge forum .. and Telly Talk caught my eye (or Soap Chat as it was back then).

I joined was made very welcome straight away by some lovely members and then about six months later noticed the rest of this forum because I didn't dare post anywhere but the Big Brother thread for a long time, sounds daft I know.

I'm still here because this is a great forum with the best Members on the whole internet :D

FYI... I'm enjoying a do nothing but indulge yourself weekend. Using this laptop instead of my phone means hyperbole is my burden but my iTunes account lightens the load (actually that's gibberish right there). Currently bumping Kate Bush's live recording of Cloudbusting from her Before The Dawn concerts. Mentioned last night, but this recording is... word don't exist to full describe it. The strings are murderous and relentless... Kate's vocal has no mortal equal. Just amazing.
Kate Bush is the best!

What a unique talent and I've never some across anyone like her, some have tried to copy but failed, theres only one Kate Bush!

In 2018 BBC radio 2 had a day dedicated to the workings of an orchestra. Very interesting, as they explained the role of the conductor, the woodwind section, the percussion section, the brass section and the string section section, The host then said "now we have a great example of strings being used" I looked at my van radio and said Cloudbusting. I was right.
Yes you are right. about Cloudbusting.

I quite like orchestral music sometimes, oh and brass bands (I'm a northerner..Lol) Mr L and I went to a brass band Carol Concert last weekend and I loved it.

I'll spare you the rest!

A good chum of mine lives down your way, in Brockworth
We're practically neighbours, I could almost wave at him from my window. Small world as they say. Never sure who "they" are mind, but I usually find myself agreeing with them.

Not sure of the tunes you've mentioned, but I did read you were pumping out Kate Bush. I used to play and play her album "The whole story" until I wore it out.
Wuthering Heights is the best tune, what a gal she was. Way back in our youth that song was the butt of many a comedienne's routine, well her video to it I suppose.

Hope you're enjoying all the merriment that this time of year brings. Take care now.

nattering is good for the soul
Oh definitely it is! Nattering, chattering whichever it is. I can do both and lots of it.

I'm STILL laughing when I read your name
I'm happy it makes you laugh, I am rather pleased with it. Had to be Sue Ellen but Christmas themed. I thought it was quite an iconic quote so I wanted to twist it a little.

I'm far too soft to go out like that in winter
Me too! Has to be getting on for 90 degrees before I'll venture out with exposed legs, well 90 degrees is pushing it here I suppose, but you know what I mean.

Hope you're all ready for Christmas
Just about done now which is good. Hope you are too.
As expected I'm working over Christmas which caused a bit of a fall out at work, but it's all sorted now. I've got loads of time off over New Year so I'm happy with that.

Great nattering and chattering with you @Santa's Lashes. Take care and have a great Christmas.

Even I probably wouldn’t do that
I don't think you would. You've got the climate. Just looks a bit silly here especially when our weather's really cold which it can be.

Let’s see, being locked in an elevator
That really is a great story. Good job it didn't last too long. I can imagine how embarrassing it must have been with you being visible but as you say it was so nice to know by-standers were concerned.

I’m ashamed to say I panicked
I wouldn’t be ashamed! So many people in your situation would. Even if we think we wouldn't, no one knows unless faced with it.

I was stuck in a lift once with my husband and son. It was only momentarily but my son freaked out and wouldn’t go in a lift for some time afterwards.

Getting hit on? You really want to hear about that?
Of course I want to hear about it. Another brilliant story DFF. Yes, I bet you get that often. You really should be writing a film about the confessions of a delivery driver!
You really could get yourself in some right pickles.
So you should be at the centre of the universe!

I’m dealing with a hyperextended right elbow
My goodness, you really have been through the wars and suffered a great deal of pain I would imagine but you carry on through it. You deserve a medal DFF. You're like an unsung superhero. I do hope your customers appreciate you. Will some of them spoil you at this time of year, do tips still exist in your job?

Somewhere there’s probably a video of it.
Would love to see that, infact I would pay money to. What an eventful time you have. After a day like that I bet you can't wait to get to the quiet safety of your home. Then you have to face it all again the next day! Your job certainly provides many challenges for you.

I really wanted was to play professional baseball
Oh bless you DFF, yes it's funny how we have these dreams but it just doesn't work out. It's not meant to be I guess. Loved reading about your safe haven baseball pitch.

I wanted to be a gymnast and as a VERY young girl I was pretty good. My favourite was the beam and trampoline. Then growing up got in the way and I wasn't disciplined enough to continue with it.

It's nice you had your mum's backing. My parents were encouraging but always allowed an easy get out which was good but didn't offer ambition or determination.

Yours is a wonderful story and I really do enjoy reading it. I'm glad you're still good at it. Can be hard having to face up to the fact it's not for us and we aren't as good as we were.

If I could be in a room on my own I would love a sneaky go on the trampoline. I'll give the beam a miss though. I'm no where near as gracious as I was and definitely haven't got the same co ordination. Couldn't possibly put the beam through the trauma either.

We’re not running out of things to talk about over there
I don't think I ever could run out of things to say about Dallas. Some might say I'm sad, but I prefer your description that I'm passionate. It's lovely to hear my posts can remind you of scenes or dialogue you'd forgotten. I find that too when threads are busy.
I'll continue to think of any old thing to keep those Dallas threads going.

Hope you're keeping well DFF. Your presence has been missed these last few days. Hope to see you here real soon. Have a lovely Christmas and a good rest.
Take care for now.

Same goes for everyone else here too. Take care and Merry Christmas!

Yes, see if you can save an orchid life. Unwanted plants break my heart. They spend their whole lives to be displayed from public consumption and they are not wanted. So sad.
I wonder if they throw any away as well? that would be a shame.

Indeed. That is why I probably could never work in such a place. It's like putting an unwanted animal down.
We could do with a massive empty field somewhere where all unsold plants could be planted and be allowed to live wild and free .
Exactly! We just need to find a place where the winds of Winter don't harm them .... like in Costa Rica.
Does it? o_O

Well DFF (clever new Christmas name, by the way :cool1) ... our Postman doesn't have blue legs for no reason., especailly in the icy rain.
I’m glad you liked my choice of name this year my friend. Looking around at some of the other ones though I was afraid it wasn’t creative enough. I guess I just like to keep my name simple so I don’t get confused and forget who I am.

On some level, I have to respect your postman’s dedication though. There’s something to admire about someone putting their well being on the line to make their deliveries ‘Lashes, or so I hear anyway.

I like the sound of the rain as well, makes me feel all cosy when I'm inside warm and dry.
Yes, rain can do that. We certainly get enough of it here to relate. Our rain season has officially ended but of course it’s still raining off and on daily.

Yaay! so this means you're safe for now. Dare I ask , when does the hurricane season officiaally start again?
It starts June 15, so we have about five and a half months to get ready for the next natural disaster threat now. Do I sound bitter? I hope not. I’m just always glad to see that season go away. Not a fan.

I've often seen reports of how deep the snow is in NY and how frozen it is .. it's far worse than anything we get.
I’m glad you don’t get anything like that in your part of the world. I actually loved it growing up but once I got older it just wasn’t as fun. Losing control of your car on a steep winding country road and crashing into a guardrail and almost plunging to your death into the river below at only 16 years of age will kind of put you off to snow a little bit ‘Lashes.

You're far too kind :hugs:
Thank you! It is a weakness of DFF. It does take a kind person to know one though my friend!

So true my friend, sometimes having a good laugh can feel like a relief to all lifes daily stresses. Don't you find that coming across someone who has the same sense of humour draws you to them? I do.
Absolutely! When I find someone with a similar sense of humor to mine it makes me feel comfortable. My sense of humor isn’t always everyone’s cup of herbal tea, I know, but I notice I have the ability to make people laugh in the worst possible situations and I kind of like that. Do I overdo it sometimes? No, of course not. I overdo it way more often than that but what are we supposed to do? What’s the alternative? Walking around miserable and hating everything and everyone ‘cause we’re not entirely happy with our lives? I can’t do that.

Ooo yes, I forget how much you are in danger when doing your job :yikey: I hope all has been quiet recently for you.
Well, I haven’t been chased by any of the animals lately so that’s good. I get chased by more customers with boxes than I do animals actually.

I'm glad you had a good day, its lovely to keep those traditions.

And knowing that day can be tough for you ... makes your heartfelt post in the Thanksgiving Thread all the more special :)
Thank you for saying this! I have to say that Christmas was even better than Thanksgiving so far so I’m really not sure what’s happening to DFF these days. These holidays are getting more enjoyable as I get older. Perhaps the dark days of wanting to tear down the decorations and stomp all over them and then throwing them outside into the street hoping they get run over by a passing car is all behind me now. I never told anyone that last part ‘Lashes. Perhaps it’s better we keep that between us?

I so hope work had not been to mad . .but I'm guessing you've been busy with it being Christmas? Hopefully you'll get a few days off over the Christmas holidays DFF. :13:
Well, it was the busiest season I’ve ever seen. This was the toughest one to get through for me, but it’s over and I survived and that’s all that matters. I am off Christmas Eve and Day so that helps. As hectic as it gets though I do enjoy it. I love making my customers happy, as corny as that sounds, and I always try to remember that I’m doing it for them. I wish more people understood that. Without your customers you have nothing, and without them I wouldn’t have any food on my table at night either. And of course they need me as well so it works both ways.

Merry Christmas ‘Lashes, to your and your entire family as well!! I hope you are enjoying your holiday.

And a Merry Christmas to everyone else reading this!!

I don't think you would. You've got the climate. Just looks a bit silly here especially when our weather's really cold which it can be.
Any snow for Christmas in your part of the world? It’s 74 degrees here right now. Last Christmas Day it was 40 here, the coldest one we had in years but that’s definitely not the case this year.

That really is a great story. Good job it didn't last too long. I can imagine how embarrassing it must have been with you being visible but as you say it was so nice to know by-standers were concerned.
I have to say being stuck in a glass elevator really wasn’t that bad. Being able to see out was a plus, but it was kind of awkward just standing there and having everyone looking up at you from the lobby. I kind of wanted them to all go away but at the same time it felt good to have the support.

I was stuck in a lift once with my husband and son. It was only momentarily but my son freaked out and wouldn’t go in a lift for some time afterwards.
Your poor son ended up traumatized LOL!! I can relate to his position though ‘cause til this day when I get on an elevator I think about that time and I get a little nervous. When that door finally opens I’m really happy!

I wouldn’t be ashamed! So many people in your situation would. Even if we think we wouldn't, no one knows unless faced with it.
I had an Aunt that was just terrified of elevators. She would panic to the point we had to hold her hands all the way up or down. Wrongly we would all tease her about it but once I had my episode with getting stuck I never teased her again.

You really should be writing a film about the confessions of a delivery driver!
You really could get yourself in some right pickles.
So you should be at the centre of the universe!
The problem is when I tell these stories to my family they think I’m exaggerating. It really is crazy what goes on on the road. It definitely wouldn’t be a boring film!

My goodness, you really have been through the wars and suffered a great deal of pain I would imagine but you carry on through it. You deserve a medal DFF. You're like an unsung superhero. I do hope your customers appreciate you. Will some of them spoil you at this time of year, do tips still exist in your job?
I really appreciated reading this! This made my day I gotta say. Yes, I was a little spoiled this year on my route. We’re not allowed to accept tips any longer such as cash, gift cards, etc. Things are different now in that respect but I’m fine with that. Appreciation goes just as far and I do get plenty of that.

Would love to see that, infact I would pay money to. What an eventful time you have. After a day like that I bet you can't wait to get to the quiet safety of your home. Then you have to face it all again the next day! Your job certainly provides many challenges for you.
I do check online once in awhile to see if I ever pop up in a video here and there but so far nothing has ever surfaced. I’m sure I’ve provided a few laughs on these cameras over the years.

I do tend to drive back to my house very rapidly after a long day. Getting home safely is really all I think about these days.

I wanted to be a gymnast and as a VERY young girl I was pretty good. My favourite was the beam and trampoline. Then growing up got in the way and I wasn't disciplined enough to continue with it.
I know being a gymnast takes a lot of dedication. They are amazing athletes as well and I never fail to be surprised by what they can do physically. But like you say, things get in the way and we get sidetracked. Like me you probably kept telling yourself you’d get back to it at some point, and we never did.

It's nice you had your mum's backing. My parents were encouraging but always allowed an easy get out which was good but didn't offer ambition or determination.
I think in general it’s hard for parents to accept their kids wanting to go into sports as a profession because it is such a long shot. My mother wasn’t so supportive in the beginning, believe me, but she came around. I think it ended up disappointing her more than it did me when I stopped playing.

Yours is a wonderful story and I really do enjoy reading it. I'm glad you're still good at it. Can be hard having to face up to the fact it's not for us and we aren't as good as we were.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed reading it. And yes, it is hard to face the fact that it wasn’t meant to be sometimes. There are times when it still gets me a little down but that’s fine. It just means I still care and I’d rather it still bother me once in awhile than I completely forget about it.

If I could be in a room on my own I would love a sneaky go on the trampoline. I'll give the beam a miss though. I'm no where near as gracious as I was and definitely haven't got the same co ordination. Couldn't possibly put the beam through the trauma either.
I think it’s good that you are curious about it. Perhaps you should give it a try. I’d say try the trampoline first and see how it goes but save the beam for later if you feel it won’t go so well. The key with this stuff as we get older is don’t do anything that’s going to embarrass or hurt you LOL. That’s my perspective when I do get on that baseball field nowadays. I stick to the things I can still do physically, and the things I can no longer do, well, “sorry kid you don’t get to see that today.”

I don't think I ever could run out of things to say about Dallas. Some might say I'm sad, but I prefer your description that I'm passionate. It's lovely to hear my posts can remind you of scenes or dialogue you'd forgotten. I find that too when threads are busy.

It’s still fun to discuss it, especially because we might look at a lot of things we watched back then differently now. I don’t think there’s anything sad about it. I enjoy reading everyone’s opinions and thoughts over there, whether we all agree or not never mattered to me.

Hope you're keeping well DFF. Your presence has been missed these last few days. Hope to see you here real soon. Have a lovely Christmas and a good rest.
Take care for now.

I appreciate your kind words. I'm pleased that I decided to join TT.

Blazing the pipe under the Lightning Tree sun down 'til sun up... no need to ask as there's always a place for you around the campfire under the celestial lightshow.
I didn't dare post anywhere but the Big Brother thread for a long time, sounds daft I know.
Make sense to me. Although I read most threads (curiosity will be the instrument of my torture one day) I don't post anything in most for reasons like.... don't want to "butt in", Feel that the subject matter is not something I know well, like sports and so on. Plus there is something kinda nice about interacting with members that frequent certain threads, a kind of relationship "blossoms" if you see what I'm saying.
I quite like orchestral music sometimes
Me to, I'd love to attend something like The Proms to witness a full orchestra playing. Orchestral music is all around but often goes unnoticed. Incidental music in movies, TV adverts, TV shows et cetera.

I'm a northerner..Lol) Mr L and I went to a brass band Carol Concert last weekend and I loved it.
Final thoughts... in the movie Brassed Off about the coal mine closing, there is a very funny joke that the people I was watching it with failed to grasp,
During band practice the young guy blowing the trumpet keeps looking at the young lady sat next to him...
The conductor notices and says "A'up lad got your mind on that pit!" Comedy gold right there.

Small world as they say.
Very true as I've bumped into people that know me in some odd places.

Not sure of the tunes you've mentioned, but I did read you were pumping out Kate Bush. I used to play and play her album "The whole story"
Not sure what tunes I've mentioned sounds about right. being a melophile, as I've come to notice, I like tracks or artist that others are unaware of and popular artists of the day. I'm thinking that you don't know Mutiny UK's The Virus (King Unique remix). It's circa 2003, and rather good I think. The first KB CD I ever purchased was The Whole Story.

Cloudbusting is based on Peter Reich's book "A Book Of Dreams" in which he describes how he felt when his father was taken away by the authorities when he was 12.

The witching hour fast approaches... gotta go, gotta go. Pipe to blaze up.

Yes, see if you can save an orchid life. Unwanted plants break my heart. They spend their whole lives to be displayed from public consumption and they are not wanted. So sad.
The good news it that when I was in TESCOS this week their was no sign of unwanted Orchids  I think for once they must have all been sold, thankfully.

Have you aquired any more homeless Orchids recently Michelle?

I shall get her to pose for a photo soon. So far she is doing well, she seems to like living at our front window where she gets the morning sun and plenty of light. Her petals are magnificent, although I noticed today that some of them look a bit bruised, probably caused by Barneys wagging tale  I will have to move her a bit higher up away from danger.

Right now its very frosty in the north of England, we had a deep frost last night and its barely thawed today. Our bird bath completely froze over so I've been out there this afternoon with kettle in hand to melt the ice.

It starts June 15, so we have about five and a half months to get ready for the next natural disaster threat now. Do I sound bitter? I hope not. I’m just always glad to see that season go away. Not a fan.
You can relax for a while and no, you don't sound bitter at all, its understandable that your glad to see the back of it for a while.

I so like your outlook on life. Making other people laugh is a gift :)

I find some people who are lacking in humour hard work to communicate with. Don't get me wrong I can be a right moaner at times, but mostly I'm able to see the funny side of things. Its a relief because sadly the world has a lot of problems and we hear about so many heartbreaking things happeneing that sometimes we need lighter moments to keep ourselves sane.

Well, I haven’t been chased by any of the animals lately so that’s good. I get chased by more customers with boxes than I do animals actually.
Be careful! Humans can be more vicious than animals :yikey:

Thank you for saying this! I have to say that Christmas was even better than Thanksgiving so far so I’m really not sure what’s happening to DFF these days. These holidays are getting more enjoyable as I get older. Perhaps the dark days of wanting to tear down the decorations and stomp all over them and then throwing them outside into the street hoping they get run over by a passing car is all behind me now. I never told anyone that last part ‘Lashes. Perhaps it’s better we keep that between us?
Don't you worry DFF, anything you say stays between us ;) I'm pleased for you that these big holidays are getting easier for you, you've been through a lot. I wonder if its because you are making new memories?

Well, it was the busiest season I’ve ever seen. This was the toughest one to get through for me, but it’s over and I survived and that’s all that matters. I am off Christmas Eve and Day so that helps. As hectic as it gets though I do enjoy it. I love making my customers happy, as corny as that sounds, and I always try to remember that I’m doing it for them. I wish more people understood that. Without your customers you have nothing, and without them I wouldn’t have any food on my table at night either. And of course they need me as well so it works both ways.
It sounds like you've had the hardest time, I hope you have recovered your strength. Luckily ou seem to get job satisfaction by making your customers happy .. they are lucky to have you!

Do you have any days off soon? you deserve a long break .

Blazing the pipe under the Lightning Tree sun down 'til sun up... no need to ask as there's always a place for you around the campfire under the celestial lightshow.
Lol! .. I love that tree :D

Oh yes I know what you mean. If I wandered over to the Dallas threads I wouldn't know what to post and I'm sure members make strong bonds over there. , but fortunbately their are so many other threads to join in with.

:giggle:

Happy new year @Biggie. :gotcha:

Ooo this doen't sound good for you my friend :hugs:
That was the craziest week I’ve ever seen but I survived. I didn’t t think I was ever going to get a chance to log in here again (lol!!)

Aww thank you and happy new year DFF to you.
I hope you had a nice New Years my friend! Hard to believe it’s 2024 already. I remember watching my very first New Year’s Eve celebration in 1982. I thought it was so cool getting to stay up until midnight, and now I can barely stay up at all.

Yes thats so true. Our Postman battles on through all weathers and all he gets is a big smile from me when he knocks on our door
I bet you are the type that is very friendly and very good to your drivers. You don’t know how that always makes a difference for me. It’s a nice feeling to be appreciated.

Right now its very frosty in the north of England, we had a deep frost last night and its barely thawed today. Our bird bath completely froze over so I've been out there this afternoon with kettle in hand to melt the ice
I bet the frost must make driving a challenge for you over there. You be careful ‘Lashes!

Will you get mad at me if I tell you it’s in the 70s over here? And keep in mind it’s still raining daily, even though the rain season officially ended a month ago!!

You can relax for a while and no, you don't sound bitter at all, its understandable that your glad to see the back of it for a while.
Yes, always nice to see the hurricane season leave us for awhile. I think we’re so used to it here now that most people have become indifferent to it all. It’s just something we have to deal with every year.

I so like your outlook on life. Making other people laugh is a gift :)

I find some people who are lacking in humour hard work to communicate with. Don't get me wrong I can be a right moaner at times, but mostly I'm able to see the funny side of things. Its a relief because sadly the world has a lot of problems and we hear about so many heartbreaking things happeneing that sometimes we need lighter moments to keep ourselves sane
Very true! I think we’ll always need laughter, especially in this world now.

I so enjoyed your post about the lost elephant being reunited with its mother. To me it’s the little stuff like that that we need to hear daily right now. We all need to smile, and like you say I can also be a moaner about things sometimes. We all do it, it’s normal, and it’s fine as long as we don’t get stuck there like so many do. That’s what drives me crazy, when people get so set in all that negativity ‘cause it only makes things worse.

Be careful! Humans can be more vicious than animals :yikey:
So I’ve noticed over on the Last Post thread

I'm pleased for you that these big holidays are getting easier for you, you've been through a lot. I wonder if its because you are making new memories?
I’m not sure to be honest. Maybe I just got tired of being miserable every December 25th (just kidding).

I think it’s mostly that I’m in a different place in life now. Don’t get me wrong, there’s still a lot I want to change but I look at things much differently now than I did back then. Tragedies are not fun, but if you survive them you can definitely learn a lot about yourself.

It sounds like you've had the hardest time, I hope you have recovered your strength. Luckily ou seem to get job satisfaction by making your customers happy .. they are lucky to have you!
Yes, well, speaking of tragedies, I did survive yet another holiday season at work. I am banged up and bruised and realizing that I’m getting up there now but I’m okay. I have made myself a promise that this was my last Christmas on the road. Of course, going back and reading some of this thread over the years I notice I’ve said this before ‘Lashes. We’ll see how I feel in a few months because you and I both know how this usually goes.

Do you have any days off soon? you deserve a long break .
Funny you should ask my friend. I’m off until January 15. I think I need it. I think everyone knows I need it. I sure didn’t refuse when it was offered anyway (lol).

You have a great week ‘Lashes!!

And the same goes for everyone else reading this!!

'The Lovely Michelle'
The good news it that when I was in TESCOS this week their was no sign of unwanted Orchids  I think for once they must have all been sold, thankfully.

You're so lucky you don't have to see the unwanted plants like Michelle has to.
Have you aquired any more homeless Orchids recently Michelle?

Well since you ask on 26 December, the day after Christmas, I saw this.

orchid122623.jpg
I had to buy this poor plant soul. She was without hope in a cold store. She is much better now.

Its good to know that our Streetie is still battling on despite the pesky spider-mites and what a wonderful gift from you neighbour :D I bet your face lit up when you saw a new Poinsettia. Have you named her now?
No name yet for this new addition to my Poinsettia family. This is how I found her.
poinsettia-Newbie121923.jpg
I got another one on 7 January in the same place I grocery store I got the orchid above that had been sitting unwanted since 28 December. I saw it there for two weeks by itself but decided, "oh well, what does another one hurt" and got it. It's a biggie.

My first generation of Poisettias are in crisis and dying. Princess, Duchess II and Boxer down at my Mother's are dying or in very poor condition for unknown reasons. Streetie up here with me is not much better and I'm so lucky she made it to 2024.

Here is a photo I took today in my full plant room with Streetie and the two newbies in the background.
streetie011024.jpg

I had to keep Streetie far forward not to touch the others just in case she is contagious.

Happy new year to you Lovely Michelle
I can't wait to see her! I'm glad she's well. Happy New Year to you too my friend.

Any snow for Christmas in your part of the world? It’s 74 degrees here right now
Hi DFF, thought it was time I caught up here.

No snow here at Christmas infact it was unseasonably mild which made it seem quite un-Christmassy.
Having a very cold snap at the moment though, it's been 0 degrees today. I saw on the news earlier that snow is forecast for the middle of next week. I'll be keeping an eye on the weather forecast now.

I think myself lucky because in my area some people have recently experienced terrible flooding with damage to their homes. That must be so awful. The floods were close but not in my area thank goodness.

The problem is when I tell these stories to my family they think I’m exaggerating
I bet they do, only because your stories are so detailed and almost unbelievable. I don't think you exaggerate and I really enjoy reading your posts.
You must have some Christmas work stories to share?

How was your job leading up to Christmas? I can imagine it was full on. Is it any better now it's January?

I worked nights over Christmas which I was so cross about at first but ended up having 2 weeks off over new year which was great without using any Annual leave, just how the rota fell.

I really enjoyed the fireworks in London for New Year, it was very special.

We’re not allowed to accept tips any longer such as cash, gift cards, etc
Of course, I hadn't thought of that. I hope you were shown some appreciation by your customers.

Although at first I resented having to work over Christmas, the lead up to it felt worse than actually doing it. Being there for the vulnerable people I support made it worthwhile.

People often say it's only one day and really it is. There's so much pressure to make that one day so special, but I've had special days all over the place, not just Christmas Day. It did go by in a bit of a blurr mind you, but with such a supportive family they made it easier.

Here's hoping you've had a great start to the year DFF!
I'm loving our posts over on the Dallas threads.
Hope you're keeping well, take care for now.

Same for everyone else here too.

Very true as I've bumped into people that know me in some odd places.
Hey Biggie, how are you?

When I was young you could guarantee that every family holiday we went on my Dad would bump into someone who knew him. It became a joke eventually, but 9 times out of 10 it would happen.

We didn't go abroad and my parents managed pubs when I was growing up. I guess their customers travelled to the same places.

I'm thinking that you don't know Mutiny UK's The Virus (King Unique remix).
You're right I don’t know it, but it's really good and I mean that. Reminds me of my "rave" days, well rave nights from the 90s. Definitely has that vibe about it.

Hope you had plentiful pipes and peace for Christmas.

We have a Kate Bush thread on here in the Music Forum too.
Hi Lashes!

I'll have to check that out when I get the chance. She's certainly an underrated talent.

I hope it wasn't too busy for you, I've worked quite a few Christmas's too, its not ideal but I guess like me you made the best of it.
Yes we have no choice but to make the best of it. I've posted earlier to DFF about working Christmas but then managing to have 2 weeks off over new year.
A lot of my early jobs as a youngster meant working at Christmas so I've done loads, then I had a job for 11 years where we closed over Christmas, even though it was a respite unit for children with complex needs, so I've been spoiled and it hit me hard.

But I got through it thanks to my family and feel glad to have supported the vulnerable people I work with.

If I wandered over to the Dallas threads I wouldn't know what to post and I'm sure members make strong bonds over there.
But you would be so welcome to post on the Dallas threads. I would love to see you there.

I would love anyone to come over and join us on the Dallas threads.
Even if you feel you don't know a lot, any contribution is valuable, no matter how small.

I'm going to start a campaign now to get you and some others over there. We do form special bonds because of our love for the subject but it's inclusive for all, everyone's invited. I really hope to see you over there soon!

Take care for now.

Hi DFF, thought it was time I caught up here.
Well I’m glad you did! You were noticeably absent around here lately. Then again, I converse with you on so many threads daily that you really weren’t missed that much (just kidding).

No snow here at Christmas infact it was unseasonably mild which made it seem quite un-Christmassy.

0 degrees? I haven’t seen that in so long that I’m not sure how I would even react to it. Good luck with the snowstorm next week. I hope it’s not too bad for you over there!

I think myself lucky because in my area some people have recently experienced terrible flooding with damage to their homes. That must be so awful. The floods were close but not in my area thank goodness.
I’m glad they missed you. Flooding is no joke. It’s very common here unfortunately. We just had some tornadoes come through here, which is unusual for us this time of year, but they left some serious damage in their path. Luckily they missed this area though but unfortunately they didn’t miss the entire state.

I bet they do, only because your stories are so detailed and almost unbelievable. I don't think you exaggerate and I really enjoy reading your posts.
You must have some Christmas work stories to share?
Thank you for saying that!

As far as Christmas work stories, let’s see, what do I have?

Well, this was the busiest year I’ve ever seen. I am so banged up it’s hysterical. But I’m okay. December 20th was the busiest day I’ve ever had. An average day for me is usually around 90 to 100 stops, so when I walked in to 244 that day I knew it was going to be a long one. I went to my two helpers to beg but one told me she had 215 and the other one said she had 197 and their hair was already sticking straight up and they were both about to cry as it was so I just took my 244 and went with it. I worked about 12 hours but I got it done. It was crazy, it was tough, I thought it would never end, but it was also a lot of fun believe it or not. I was showing up at houses 8 o’clock at night that I usually go to at 9am but no one even cared. They all understood. Well, except for one but he got over it.

I can imagine it was full on. Is it any better now it's January?
A little slower but not much. Different world now. Ever since Covid everything changed. Most everything is done online now so we really don’t get slow times like we used to.

I worked nights over Christmas which I was so cross about at first but ended up having 2 weeks off over new year which was great without using any Annual leave, just how the rota fell.
I guess the two weeks off made it all worth it? That’s a nice chunk of time off to have in one shot! I’m very jealous. I’m hoping working nights over Christmas at least gave you some nice overtime?

I really enjoyed the fireworks in London for New Year, it was very special.
I love fireworks. I bet seeing them live in London has to be a lot of fun! I’m embarrassed to say I fell asleep around 9 o’clock New Year’s Eve and woke up 2:30 the next morning. I never heard the fireworks or anything else LOL.

I hope you were shown some appreciation by your customers.
Yes, I’m happy to say I was. Most of them don’t know how mutual the feeling is though ‘cause there are so many of them I never even get to see.

Although at first I resented having to work over Christmas, the lead up to it felt worse than actually doing it. Being there for the vulnerable people I support made it worthwhile.
The lead up to things like that usually does feel worse than the actual event. I think we tend to make it worse because it’s usually something we don’t want to do but then we realize we have no choice. The people you’re doing it for is what makes it all worthwhile in my book.

I’m reading that last paragraph back and I’m not sure if it makes any sense but I’m leaving it in.

People often say it's only one day and really it is. There's so much pressure to make that one day so special, but I've had special days all over the place, not just Christmas Day.
That’s a very nice outlook to have. I love Christmas and I’m so sad when it’s gone, but every day is special for one reason or another and we have to find that reason to make it special for us. It’s not always easy though. I guess it’s easy to take things for granted.

It did go by in a bit of a blurr mind you, but with such a supportive family they made it easier.
Supportive family? Hmmm, is there such a thing?

I’m just joking. I guess they can drive us nuts as much as they support us, but I’m okay with that. One of my favorite family members insisted on taking me out to lunch today for my birthday, which I’m fine with, but was running late and proceeded to keep telling me they’d be there in 30 minutes, then 22 minutes, then 6 minutes away, to which my response was if you stop texting me and keep driving you know you’ll get here faster, right? Not smart ticking off the person buying your bday lunch though, in retrospect.

Here's hoping you've had a great start to the year DFF!
I'm loving our posts over on the Dallas threads.
Hope you're keeping well, take care for now.
My week has been good so far and I hope yours has too LML! I’m glad you enjoy my Dallas posts and it’s wonderful having you over there too. That place was kind of unusually slow for awhile before you got there.

You take care, have a nice weekend and everyone else please do the same!!
