Any fans out there?
I first saw him in his Oscar-nominated role as Arnie in WHAT'S EATING GILBERT GRAPE? (1993, with Johnny Depp) and he was soooo convincing that I thought they'd hired a little mentally-challenged kid who could read lines -- imagine my surprise when I found out I was the one who was mentally-challenged and that it was just little Leonardo DiCaprio, a normal actor with a supernormal ability (and, one suspects, a wee dash of Asperger's). The editor said there wasn't a single foot of coverage on Leo that they couldn't use.
DiCaprio would say he wound up in every role River Phoenix, whom he adored, was up for -- especially after he (Phoenix) died, and died only hours after DiCaprio almost met him at a Hallowe'en party. Said Leo later: "At a party in Silver Lake, I saw (River) walk up a flight of stairs. It was almost like something you would see in 'Vertigo', because I saw there was something in his face, and I’d never met him — always wanted to meet him, always wanted to just have an encounter with him — and he was walking toward me and I kind of froze. And then the crowd got in my way, and I looked back and he was gone.” After Phoenix vanished in the crowd, DiCaprio didn’t give up, “I walked back up the stairs and back down, and I was like, ‘Where did he go?’ And he was . . . on his way to The Viper Room.”
DiCaprio has been pretty busy ever since.
DiCaprio has appeared in THIS BOY'S LIFE, THE BASKETBALL DIARIES, TOTAL ECLIPSE (near-perfect zodiacal casting for Rimbaud, btw, hence the title), and an obscure little independent art-house picture called TITANIC that nobody saw. As well as GANGS OF NEW YORK, THE AVIATOR, BLOOD DIAMOND, SHUTTER ISLAND, INCEPTION, DJANGO UNCHAINED, THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, THE REVENANT (where he finally got his Oscar for Best Actor), ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD and, just last year, KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON. And many others.
Frankly, I've got to catch up on some of them.
He works a lot with Martin Scorsese, as everybody knows. DiCaprio also co-produces a ton of stuff I wasn't aware he was involved in, and he's done so for the last twenty years.
Horoscopically, for those paying attention, DiCaprio is almost the perfect character-actor/leading-man blend -- he's Sun in Scorpio/Moon in Libra (the inimitable savant part) but also a Libra Rising (the dapper leading man astrologic component of them all) with those piercing blues. And the fellow seems to be extremely alert.
Among many other unique talents, no one screams and cries and shrieks with such unfiltered, unfettered, unaffected abandon like Leonardo DiCaprio -- the man has no fear of embarrassing or humiliating himself at all.
Which is how it should be.
Reportedly, he dates a lot of hot, younger models.
