Hey all,

Luke, (yes that Luke) here. Hello to all, especially BF! I basically left the form after all the drama, oh so long ago, but returned for Dallas news now and then. This year, found myself back more often due to all the reunions, especially the one in California earlier this year.

I have a question that maybe only someone on UD can answer. I was going to post on the main Dallas form, but thought it might be better here. Some of you might remember that I'm a big fan of Lucy and Charlene Tilton. I wondered if anyone had any definitive knowledge about whether she is a Trumper?

I know many of the original cast members were Republicans, and up until the 2000's I could live with that. But... I noticed one of Charlene's upcoming movies is called God's Not Dead: In God We Trust. It's not the religious subject matter that bothered me, it's that it features actors Scott Baio, Isaiah Washington and Dean Cain. All three are big MAGA and Trump supporters. It also stars Ray Wise who played Lucy's modeling agent on Dallas.

Anyhoo, I love Lucy, but loath Trump. I could not support any actor, even one I've loved for years who follows a hateful, cruel, divisive, homophobic, misogynistic lunatic. Curious if anyone knows anything. Is my fan favorite a thing of my past....

Luke
Upon an interview she gave to the Catalan TV circa 1984-5, Charlene undoubtedly was a 'reaganist', she repeated it a few times, adding "because I love America". But didn't answer when the host asked: "so when there's another president from another party, will you love and respect him too?". Insert cricket singing...

I think any actor can support whoever they want.
I would add that they should do so privately, and not use their fame in public,
For me they can support whoever they like because quite frankly I’ve never cared about an actor’s political beliefs and whether or not they agree with mine. I have no problem with them using their fame as a platform really but I notice that I tend to tune it out. I pay to watch their movies. I enjoy being entertained by them but that’s where it stops.

I tune out but in the case of someone like Leonardo (the Actor) I refuse point blank to part with my hard-earned cash to watch any of his stuff. I detest those who use a platform like the Oscars and berate us about climate change but will then charter a private plane and cruise around the Mediterranean with a harem of beautifuls.

Welcome back @Luke2019

I really don't think you should read too much into who Charlene collaborates with on a movie. I think she is an open-minded person who won't let other people's opinions stop her from working with someone even if she doesn't agree with them. She is a proffessional actress after all and it would be silly for her to turn down work based on what other people votes on for candidates in the election.

I don't know if Charlene is a republican or a democrat and it doesn't matter which one to me.

Also Ronald Reagan was a great President. I think a lot of people supported him and were Reblicans in the 1980s since he really made a difference when he was in office.

Errrmmmm. You might have hurt your point right there.

There were a lot of "Reagan Democrats" but not everybody agrees he was a great president. A lot of the economic problems we have today are the long-term result of his policies.

Ronald Reagan was a great President.

He inherited double digit inflation and unemployment, and he reversed it to less than half of what it was
The stock market more than tripled under his administration.
He won the cold war.
He restored American prestige abroad with our Allies.
And he did not create long term economic problems. The world changed, economies had to change with it.
Banking and Brokerage systems would have changed as a result of technology, if nothing else.
Countries that were previously less well off have become advanced, resulting in more competitive markets.
Presidents have had to adjust to that as well.
There were 6 Presidents in office since 1988. It is absurd to assert that they had no role in
setting long-term economic policies.

There was much more as well.

Those are objective realities.

A person could like or not like it,and even disagree or criticize some policies,
but RR deserves a lot of credit for a much better standard of living than the 4 years that preceded him

Ronald Reagan was a great President.
Most of the American people agreed since he won over 40 states in 1980,
and was reelected with 59% of the vote, which may be a post-war record (I would have to look it up)
and 49 states.
Under RR, the stock market more than triples, he reduced inflation and unemployment significantly,
won the cold war, and restored confidence in American leadership

Hi @Karin

I totally take responsibility as I put the question on this, the political form. I also began with laying out some of my feelings about Trump. For me however, this really has nothing to do with politics. I don't generally care about an actors politics, and if I know, am usually able to look beyond it. To me, Charlton Heston was an ass, but that's not going to stop me from watching the old Planet of the Apes moves when it comes on tv. My dad introduced me to that movie on VHS when I was a kid, he loved it, and passed it on to me.

Trumps political connection is not at all important to me, if he were a Liberal Democrat, I would still find him a vile, psychopathic narcissist sociopath.. Because I know, with every fiber of my being, he is a dangerous, racist, homophobic, misogynist, criminal, liar, traitor, felon, sexual abuser, (did i use enough adjectives :D ) I could not support an actor, even one I 've loved and supported for years, who supports a person with those characteristics.

Politics has nothing to do with it, I'm not a huge Biden fan either, any pro comments about Biden are not about my support for him, but that in the US there are only two options, and my feelings on the other are clear above. If Charlene is Republican, cool, I've always thought she was and never bothered me. If however, I were to find out she was a MAGA supporter, she'd be dead to me. I have no problem saying that.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

There are times, events and circumstances when an entertainer's performance is an obstacle.
I can not and will not support certain individuals whose behaviour, politics or personal life
is disgusting and vile.
That is not the same as saying that they are good at what they do.
Certain singers - I will change the station when their song is playing
Certain actors/actresses - I will not view their movies or tv shows.

There are consequences to their actions, and some of it is
that many people will no longer support them

But you're a right-winger, so you assume Reagan was "a great president" and seem shocked at the assertion he wasn't.

Reagan was often claiming that we should go back to the "morality" of the 1950s. But the three things which allowed the working-class family to get their footing in the '50s -- strong unions, anti-trust laws, and a progressive tax structure (where the more you make, the more you pay) -- were decimated, or eliminated, by Reagan himself.

Despite endless PR to the contrary, the average person was not doing better in real money by the end of Reagan's 8-year term.

The rich got richer. Anything else is disinformation.

And while I like Streisand well-enough, her recent tweets defending Dr. Fauci -- whom, in her Hollywood bubble, has probably never received one iota of criticism -- are pathetic and ignorant (but she's 82). I'm not going to defend her because she's a liberal, just as I refuse to ignore BEDTIME FOR BONZO, a lovely little film, because Reagan was hired by General Electric and thus became a conservative.

But I'm all fair and shit like that.

I am not a right winger. I am a moderate. You are drawing a conclusion without any facts.
And the rich got richer under every president.

The largest gap was the Obama Administration.

And you are asserting things with no facts.

The average person was better off because mor were employed, and their retirement savings jumped as a result of a stock market that more than tripled.
Economies do not stay stay the same. Changes happen, and the ones that you mention were the result of market forces, and would have taken place eventually.

If you did not Like RR, that is your perogative
You have a right to an opinion, but not facts

And he was so great that thousands of people, including Rock Hudson, died of aids because he refused to invest on research on favor of the star wars farce. Some things like this prove how blind American people are when the problem doesn't affect them. Ugh.

That isn't true. the disease was new, and no one had answers.
You are focusing on one thing that was not his fault.
And by the way, Rock Hudson was a friend of the Reagans

Yes, Regan was the rich man's president. Every president since Reagan has continued his economic policies of letting the rich run off with all the money. It's no wonder that living conditions are much worse now after enduring that for 43 years. Reagan also attacked social programs and created the "welfare queen" caricature that Dems adopted.

Then there was the Iran-Contra scandal. Now every president uses cash and weapons to meddle in conflicts around the world unimpeded. "Checks and balances," my ass!

The difference is, I don't defend Obama. Or Biden.

Your defense of Reagan, and your assertion that you're a moderate, is sweet. But a little retro at best.

Every President had missteps. Whatever faults RR had were extremely minor compared to his successors
In any event, the nation was better during the RR years than the administration that preceded it

But not the other way around.
I don't have the time or patience to educate you on facts on the Reagan era
You simply wish to push your agenda and have the last word
So go ahead, astonish us with your (lack of) understanding of macroeconomics,
changes in tech and the worldwide changes in economies
your assertions about right wingers being anyone who is not an extreme left,
and revisionist (and false) history

While you are at it, resume your hero worship of BBG and your disrespect of Donna Reed somewhere else.

My "hero worship of BBG and disrespect of Donna Reed"??

If you can't even get those baseless accusations right, why should anybody believe your "facts" in defense of Reagan's presidency and the effect of his policies?
