Was Matthew's return a missed opportunity for a massacre?

No other season saw more characters leave Dynasty than season 7, yet the writers decided that none of the departures coincided with Matthew's return. Was that a mistake? Should Matthew and his men have shown up on time for Adam and Dana's wedding ceremony and caused a bloodbath to compensate audiences for the dire aftermath of the Moldavian massacre?

Relatives who left the show during the season (Caress, Amanda, Jackie) could have come to the wedding, which would have been a social event in Denver with Clay and Buck or even Sam Dexter in attendance. Michael Culhane and Sarah Curtis could have easily stayed until the season finale, so Matthew could have shot the woman who had kidnapped Krystina, believing he was doing Krystle a favor. Even Neal McVane could have somehow managed to show up at the wedding to cause trouble, only to get shot.

What do you think about the idea of a massacre at Adam's wedding? Or was it the right decision to keep all the departing characters alive in case they were to return one day?

Hey, if there was going to be yet ANOTHER Carrington wedding that ended in bullets flying, they might as well go all out! I voted for Sarah Curtis, Michael Culhane, Buck Fallmont, Sam Dexter, Neal McVane, Dirk Maurier and Gavin Maurier; that's 7 deaths!

I'd still keep Dominique, Nick, Jackie and of course Amanda for later.

During the 2006 retrospective show, DYNASTY: THE REUNION -- CATFIGHTS & CAVIAR, Gordon Thomson goofed and said Matthew had returned during the Moldavian massacre (two years before he actually did). But I like Gordon's idea better: having Matthew involved in some way with the Moldavian guerillas might have given the massacre a little more resonance (and his desire to not hurt Krystle, Steven and Claudia could justify the relative lack of bloodshed).

I'd dump 'The Siege' story that linked Season 7 with Season 8 -- ideally, I'd go with the avalanche where the wedding reception for Adam & Dana turns to disaster as the SkyCrest lodge, just below the summit of Scorpio Peak, goes cascading down the slopes, several dynastic families in attendance hurdling with it.

Probably somebody who believed that myth about his actor being a jinx for shows ending early, even though his time on "Married with Children" proved otherwise.

But let's see, so far the ones who've received the most votes are:

Gavin Maurier

These characters are definitely the ones who should have died to make the situation legitimately dire. They're all connected to important characters, after all: Sarah to Krystle, Blake and Krystina; Buck to Clay and by extension Sammy Jo; Michael to Amanda (who, in this little fantasy rewrite, is still being played by Catherine Oxenberg) and Gavin to Alexis.

Throw in Neal McVane as well, as karma for the stunt he pulled with Adam! Bwahahahahaa!

Agreed on Sarah, Dirk and Gavin, but Jackie and Nick had potential. I'd keep them around and properly utilize them. I've said many times before that Jackie should have been Miles Colby's next love interest after Fallon.

Matter of fact, Maxwell Caulfield and Troy Beyer together makes me think of this pairing:

But really, Dominique should have been a regular on THE COLBYS right from the start. It should have been the other way around between her and Fallon: Fallon should have only been a Guest Star in the first half of the season, but at some point, Fallon should have returned full time to Denver to rediscover her past. And catfight with her sister.

On THE COLBYS, I'd have Dominique be a ruthless businesswoman who's always looking to score the next big fortune. Her daughter, Jackie, falls head over heels in love with Miles Colby, thus making Dominique and Sable co-mother-in-laws. Imagine those two divas butting heads, trading barbs and exchanging clawmarks as they meddle and interfere with their children's marriage. Plus, there were plans on Dominique getting romantically involved with Zach Powers, making Sable jealous.

Imagine Dominique having three men at once: Zach Powers, Garrett Boydsten (I'd recast him with somebody MUCH handsomer, and MUCH fitter), and Nick Kimball (who I would have as an ambitious and equally ruthless wildcatter).

Diahann Carroll was a Greek goddess statue carved out of the deepest, richest chocolate... and Ken Howard looked like the Pillsbury Doughboy with a bad toupee. There was no way Dominique would still be holding such strong feelings for him. If anything, she'd be laughing at how he let himself go (Ken Howard *was* handsome in his younger years, but in the 80s, he was only good-looking by "Golden Girls" standards).

Oh my gosh, I completely forgot about that! LOL! That would have been pretty epic if Matthew did coldly call Sammy Jo out for that prank, mortifying her.

How exactly would Matthew or the season 7 writers have known about that Sammy Jo trying to drive Claudia nuts plot in season 4 ?, anyway Mother Blaisdel should have joined her crazy son in “the siege”

Massacre was a dirty word after how they botched up the resolution when it was a hot number one worldwide hit.
I do feel that Rita and Joel plot was abruptly ended
Krystle could have become an alcoholic, The trial sets her off the deep end after hearing details of what happened, Joel escapes and tries to kidnap her again and Krystle kills him, stuff like that instead of having Krystle throw some clothes on the floor and visit Sammy Jo’s attic and it’s done without any PTSD at all. Krystle Carrington had absolutely nothing to do after being released out of Sammy Jo’s attic so why not and after such a ridiculous storyline that you want to get rid of, resolving it in an episode without any lasting effect on Krystle was stupid.

I don’t know who I am, neither do the viewers or the casting dept, writers, directors, wardrobe dept, stylists, H&M, anyone but you’re not Fallon Carrington Colby . Some crazy sh&t was going on behind the scenes to come up with all this crap. Invest millions in a spinoff without having the reason to spin something off in the first place (Fallon) and just use your least intriguing male actor and add someone even duller who’s all wrong for the role and British , with the addition of some has been stars since that worked in season 5 , all while neglecting the show that made it all possible
