But Star Trek - The Next Generation included Bones and Scotty from the Original series. It's a continuation. Star Trek - Deep Space Nine is a spin-off (with characters from ST-NG as O'Brien, and ST-VOY had Barclay from ST-NG). Too many rules to understand what you want, just pick what you want:

Reboots/ Revivals/ Sequels whatever

01. Star Trek - Deep Space Nine
02. Star Trek - The Next Generation
03. Twin Peaks
04. Dynasty
05. The Conners
06. 90210
07. Dallas
08. The X-Files
09. The Twilight Zone
10. Star Trek - Discovery

I have 0% knowledge of Star Trek. I have to look into it.
However, Twin Peaks, The Conners, Dallas & X-files are disqualified in this round as they have too many of the original actors in leading roles. Those series fit in last round (part 1 of reboots, revivals & sequels). X-files won last round with Twin Peaks & Dallas coming in at 2nd and 3rd place.

1- Battlestar Galactica (2004)
2- The Exorcist (2016)
2- V (2009)

Please correct me if I´m wrong, but I guess that "The Good Fight" is not an option here. It would be a spin-off, right?
I also assume that the "Star Trek" spinoffs are that, spinoffs. And "The L Word: Generation Q" has 3 of its former stars in it, but the rest of the cast is new. Please enlighten moi!

@Emelee Please delete original nº 2 "The Exorcist". I was sure it was a reboot but it wasn´t, just a TV adaptation. So nº 2 should be "V" (2009). Thanks!

I have decided to disqualify Star Trek series this round and treat all of them (except the original Star Trek series) as franchises, which they of course are. Next round will be all about spin-off series and franchises. Star Trek series will fit in much better there. So do vote next round where every single Star Trek series except the original from 1966 will count.

Spin-offs and Franchise Series
What exactly is a spin-off and a franchise?
  • A spin-off is derived from already existing work. It's a new series containing characters or settings that originated in a previous series, but with a different focus, tone, or theme. It can be taking a character from the original series and moving him or her to a new setting.
  • A franchise is very similar to a spin-off. It's a collection of distinct series which are often considered as a collective unit under a blanket title (Law & Order, CSI, Star Trek etc). They often, but not always, share a common continuity; even when they do not, they are more closely bound than spin-offs.
  • A revival series, a later remake of a preexisting show, is not a spin-off. Neither is a reboot series, a term recently invented for motion pictures, which can also occur in television (e.g. The Battlestar Galactica series of 2003 is a reboot, not a spin-off of the 1978 version). This is distinct from a revival in that there is little or no attempt to retain continuity, or casting, with the original.

Here is a list of spin-off series and what they are spin-offs of. (Keep in mind that it's Wikipedia, which isn't 100% reliable all the time.)

Remember: You are voting for the spin-offs - NOT the original series! This means that you can vote for Joey but not for Friends.

DO NOT vote on series that was eligible during the two "Revivals, Reboots & Sequels" rounds. Series like TNT Dallas, CW Dynasty, Fuller House, X-files, 90210, Melrose Place, Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks etc etc.

Rank your 10 favorites between 1-10 where 1 is your absolute favorite.
I will tally up the scores when the deadline has passed.

I'm assuming this refers to the 2009 reboot of Melrose Place. The original series was a spin-off but didn't qualify for either of the previous two rounds, so I have included it in my ten.

Yes. Original MP was a spin-off of Beverly Hills. Kelly, Steve, Donna & David from BH visited MP to get it started.

One of my nominations fits the criteria of both categories, and though I struggled, I felt it deserved to be nominated in both categories because it managed to be a spin-off that got revived--and those two events had no relation to one another in the life of the series. The sitcom Mama's Family was a spin-off of The Carol Burnett Show, centered around several characters from a series of skits within that show simply called The Family. It aired on NBC for two years, then got cancelled. It was revived (with most of the cast intact) several years later, thus it also fits the criteria of a revived series.

General Hospital: Night Shift is another series that would be classified a "spin-off that got revived/rescued from cancellation" but I didn't feel it was as enjoyable as the ten that I listed. It would likely be somewhere around 13 or 14.

US Primetime Soap Operas

For a series to count, it must fulfil all 3 criteria:
  • Be an American tv-series
  • Be classified as a soap opera, not only a drama series
  • No mini-series

A list of US Primetime soaps here - although I question if some of these can be classified as soaps...

Rank your 10 favorites between 1-10 where 1 is your absolute favorite.
I will tally up the scores when the deadline has passed.

To avoid confusion/doubt/discussion I'll only pick the titles of tv-series that had no other purpose than being a soap opera i.e. not mixed with other genres.
Unfortunately that means I have to ignore Tyrant as it could be perceived as a political drama. But with much of the focus on dysfunctional marriages, family feuds, secret affairs and power struggles it really felt like Dallas In The Middle East to me. It's just that the traditional soap operas would never use such a brutal and epic backdrop.
So, that leaves....and I find it simply impossible to apply universal standards here...

1. Peyton Place
The most beautiful soap opera that had the best of both worlds i.e. family and community drama. It had quite a bit of OTT melodrama so I wouldn't say it was perfect, but as perfect as a soap opera can be.

2. Dynasty 1981
A fanboy vote. It had my favourite characters/actors and it meant so very much to me back in the 1980s. It never fails to intrigue me and I can always talk about it no matter what. And I think it's the soap with the most tantalizing character history. Although I prefer the lies and accusations, rather than the facts.

3. Knots Landing
The most clever and creative soap that often looked like a labour of love. But it didn't have that Prestigious Clan theme.

4. Falcon Crest
The most atmospheric soap - until it wasn't. When it was good it was fantastic, when it was bad it was the worst.

5. Dallas 2012
The most exciting soap that tapped into the best of its predecessor, and then somehow managed to make all that history look even more significant.

6. The Colbys
The soapiest soap but, you know, only two seasons. It created some of my most beloved soap characters, but as an ensemble not as strong as Dynasty.

7. The Yellow Rose
I would have ranked it higher if it hadn't un-soaped itself. Nevertheless, the Soap Rose episodes are epic and mouthwateringly beautiful.

8. Dallas 1978
A difficult vote. Rewatching the early years made me realize how truly awesome it could be, but overall I've just never felt very strongly about it.

9. Blood & Oil
The painfully short-lived Dallas Extra Time. It had a good premise and interesting characters.

10. Flamingo Road
I found it very watchable and unpredictable, sort of a Falcon Crest-lite, but it didn't have many memorable characters.

I feel I should have included Empire, but I've never seen it, so...
Furthermore, after the debacle of my attempted Central Park West rewatch, I decided to ignore the 90s soaps altogether - just to be on the safe side.
