Former Batman Adam West has sadly passed away aged 88.
The actor, who played the DC icon during the 1960s TV show, died on Friday (June 9) after a short battle with leukaemia, a rep said (via Variety).
His family said in a statement: "Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans' lives. He was and always will be our hero."
After a series of small roles, the actor was cast as Batman/Bruce Wayne in the 1966 series Batman, which ran for two years.
The show was notable for its rather flamboyant version of the hero, which contrasts to more recent darker incarnations as portrayed by the likes of Christian Bale and Ben Affleck.
West was born William West Anderson in 1928, moving to Hawaii in the 1950s to star in a local children's TV programme and launch his career.
Following his stint as the Caped Crusader, the star struggled to break out from his association with the role, though managed to find work over the years, including guest roles on series such as Maverick, Diagnosis: Murder, Emergency!, and Bewitched.
West also often reprised his role as Batman over the years in animated series The New Adventures of Batman and live-action TV special Legends of the Superheroes in 1979.
