I've only seen them out of context, but weren't the song choices for Trump's Inaugural Dance a little odd lyrically?

My Way

"And now the end is near, and so I face the final curtain..."

I Will Always Love You

"If I should stay I would only be in your way. So I'll go..."

They're all about endings rather than beginnings. More suitable for an end of term, surely. Apropos as they may arguably be, they certainly don't seem to be the choice of someone who values communication and listens to dialogue.

And then there's that horrifically awkward missed cue for My Way:

It's like the singer had to double check he was really supposed to sing those actual words in this situation.

Perhaps Melania could have "written" some new lyrics. All by herself.

...... or stole from someone else ? ;)

She's quite good at that... o_O

Who knows, Kev. Perhaps it will surface that Melania did, indeed, write these two.

Seriously, though. I wonder how Dolly felt about her song being used here in light of her previous comment:

I have not endorsed Hillary Clinton nor Donald Trump. I try not to get political. But if I am, I might as well just run myself because I've got the hair for it -- it's huge -- and they could always use more boobs in the race.

Aren't you required to have permission from the copyright holder to perform their song publicly? I find it hard to believe Dolly Parton approved the use of her song at the Trump inauguration. I'd just as soon have it be the homecoming theme for the release of a child molester from prison.

You can't go wrong with old "blue eyes"
Nancy Sinatra responds to Donald Trump having 'My Way' performed at presidential inauguration
'Just remember the first line of the song'
  • Nancy Sinatra made it clear two weeks ago that she believed her father Frank Sinatra would not have supported Donald Trump, or performed at his inauguration.
  • Now a fan has asked her how she feels about the prospect of 'My Way' being sung at the event, after reports that the famous song would be performed for Trump's first dance with his wife Melania as US President.
  • "Just remember the first line of the song," she responded.
  • Nancy Sinatra, best known for singing 'Bang Bang' and 'These Boots Are Made For Walkin'', was referring to the line "And now the end is near".
  • It seems fitting considering the concern over how a Trump presidency will unfold and also given Sinatra's previous comments, that "DT [Donald Trump] has very bad judgement. It's going to be a rough ride".
  • It is the most frequently-played song at British funeral services.
  • Sinatra himself came to hate the song despite popularising it in 1969, according to his daughter Tina, who said he "always thought that song was self-serving and self-indulgent".

/nancy-sinatra-slams-cnn-for-anti-trump-spin-on-story-about-her-...
Per that same Fox News article you referenced:

Either way, Sinatra has spoken out against Trump in the past. She tweeted earlier this month, following Meryl Streep’s anti-Trump rant at the Golden Globes, “Meryl Streep is a patriot speaking for those of us who don't have a forum or a voice. Thank you, Meryl.”

I suppose that was just another harmless joke, too. Not to mention the following series of tweets she posted just 2 weeks ago:
"He [Frank Sinatra] would never support a bigot."
"DT has very bad judgement. It's going to be a rough ride."
"For me it's more about the people who will pull the strings than the puppet. He [Trump] has surrounded himself with horrible people."

I wonder does Melania really love him. Like really.
Trophy wife is an informal term for a wife, usually young and attractive, who is regarded as a status symbol for the husband, who is often older or unattractive, but usually wealthy. Such a gentleman may be referred to as a sugar daddy.

Referring to a spouse as a trophy wife usually reflects negatively on the character or personality of both parties. For the husband, it has a connotation of pure narcissism and the need to impress other men, and that the husband would not be able to attract the sexual interest of the attractive woman for any reason apart from his wealth or position. It can also be used to imply that the trophy wife in question has little personal merit besides her physical attractiveness, does very little of substance beyond remaining attractive, requires substantial expense for maintaining her appearance and is in some ways synonymous with the term gold digger.

A prop, formally known as (theatrical) property, is an object used on stage or on screen by actors during a performance or screen production. In practical terms, a prop is considered to be anything movable or portable on a stage or a set, distinct from the actors, scenery, costumes, and electrical equipment.
