Founding daytime host of TPIR on CBS, and before that, host of Truth or Consequences on NBC and in syndication, Bob Barker has passed on at 99.

The winner of numerous Emmy Awards, he was almost as well known for his advocacy of animal rights as he was for his half a century as a daytime television fixture.

Sadly, a day I wished would never get here. My all time favourite game show host and Price is Right was a staple in my home growing up. He was the perfect host and I always loved his terrific sense of humor with the contestants.

I remember hearing from a lot of old YouTube clips when a short-lived Tom Kennedy show called Whew! came on before it (Buzzr's reruns of Whew! had Rod Roddy's announcement for the same restored on some reruns [Rod said, "Stay tuned for The Price Is Right, following the news over most of these CBS stations"; this was because there was a 5-min. news update w/Douglas Edwards called The CBS Mid-Morning News in the interim between Whew! and TPIR, as I understand it]).

Bob Barker lived as close to 100 as possible without going over. Great memories, Rest In Peace sir.

This made me a little sad, I must say. I have fond memories of watching THE PRICE IS RIGHT with my grandparents as a kid.

I haven't liked TPIR since Barker was replaced by Drew Carey.

I also have strong memories of Barker as Adam Sandler's on-screen rival in HAPPY GILMORE.

Since all these CBS game shows of the 1970s and 1980s were all taped in neighboring studios at Television City, the various emcees would occasionally appear on other shows that needed celebrity guests. I was recently watching Bob Barker appearing on Match Game '79 (sitting in the seat vacated so famously by Richard Dawson). He was sitting next to Betty White (who traditionally sat in the sixth seat on the panel), and that was when I remembered that Betty White similarly died just short of her 100th birthday.

It's sad to watch these reruns and realize that practically everyone appearing onstage has passed away.

Indeed-- quite a few people involved in the production (him, Johnny Olson, Rod Roddy, and even Dennis James and Tom Kennedy in syndication).

The only frequent guest on Match Game that survives (that I can think of) is Fannie Flagg.

CBS is doing a special salute to Bob Barker tonight at 8pm. I doubt any of Barker's Beauties will show up.
