Dennis Waterman: Minder and New Tricks star dies aged 74

Actor Dennis Waterman, known for his roles in TV shows like Minder, The Sweeney and New Tricks, has died, his family have said. He was 74.
A statement said: "We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved Dennis, passed away very peacefully at his home in Spain."
He died on Sunday afternoon with wife Pam at his side, they said.
"The family kindly ask that our privacy is respected at this very difficult time," they added.

In addition to ”Minder” he was also great playing the flying squad’s George Carter opposite John Thaw’s Reagan in tv’s “The Sweeney” - my favourite role of his.

I dont think I ever saw the Sweeney or was allowed to watch it back in the day/ ? past my bedtime!!

The cause of death has now been confirmed as lung cancer which Dennis had been battling for several years.

Very sad.

He was a lovely actor in some of my favourite shows.

Minder, New Tricks and On the Up were all great with him in them.
