I imagine that only @Rove will know who I'm talking about but I was sad to hear of the passing of Ernie Carroll on Wednesday,
Carroll was best known as the unseen but quick-witted entertainer who, as the saying went, had a hand in Ossie Ostrich's act but I remember him from even earlier as the loopy Professor Ratbaggy on The Tarax Show, a children's programme circa 1960.
I met him once, after a Daryl & Ossie shopping centre performance in 1976. I don't think he expected to be recognised but he stopped and chatted to us and just seemed a very nice man.
The picture shows Ossie Ostrich with his onscreen partner Daryl Somers. Ernie Carroll would be standing in his customary position to the right -
off camera and out of the limelight.
