WTF are you ranting about? :confuse:

HILLARY WILL NEVER BE PRESIDENT..

NEVER EVER EVER EVER!! HA!#!
So you're filled with glee by that because you hate her personally? Or because you hate her supporters personally and Democrats in general? Or because you simply hate highly accomplished women? Or maybe all three?

I guess it depends which statistics you believe. Forbes explains the wage gap like this:

Using the statistic that women make 78 cents on the dollar as evidence of rampant discrimination has been debunked over and over again. That statistic doesn’t take into account a lot of choices that women and men make—education, years of experience and hours worked—that influence earnings. If we want to have a fruitful discussion about a gender wage gap, we should have it after the comparison is adjusted for those factors. In a 2013 Slate article, Hanna Rosin, author of The End of Men, for example, wrote:

The official Bureau of Labor Department statistics show that the median earnings of full-time female workers is 77 percent of the median earnings of full-time male workers. But that is very different than “77 cents on the dollar for doing the same work as men.” The latter gives the impression that a man and a woman standing next to each other doing the same job for the same number of hours get paid different salaries. That’s not at all the case. “Full time” officially means 35 hours, but men work more hours than women. That’s the first problem: We could be comparing men working 40 hours to women working 35.

I never said it was a contest. But shouldn't it go without saying that violence against anybody is wrong? Anybody found guilty of committing violence against another person should face strick penalties for it.

First part by Forbes is BS. Take my profession for example. Male teachers make slightly more than women. And no where have I ever seen men working longer hours or having more responsibilites than the female teachers. They do the exact same thing, same hours, same everything. But for some reason, the men earns a bit more.

But no where is it more obvious than in the media business. I love the X-files, but... what exactly is it that David Duchovny does that makes him deserve DOUBLE the salary that Gillian Anderson makes? They are both the 2 stars of the show. There is no Mulder without Scully and vice versa. But the man makes twice as much. Even now the last round, where they could have compensated for the gap. But nope, Gillian still only got 50% of David's salary.

It's the same with daytime soaps. The men gets more. Are we don't even have to talk money, we can talk better/bigger dressing rooms as well. Such "small" things. And let's face it, the women often have to do the more difficult job. Like crying on demand (the men don't cry nearly the same amount), and walking around in lingerie a whole lot more than the men. The women get to play more difficult emotions. So they should earn at least the exact same.

The only way to see who get's the shortest end of the stick, men or women, you do have to compare. Even with violence. Men are more violent than women. Both men/men and men/women.

It may not sound imprtant, but if we want a society where it makes absolutely no difference what sex you have, then all these things should be equal. And they simply are not.

It wasn't all that long ago when many people didn't think it was a big deal that women didn't have the right to vote. "The women have it good enough as it is".

No, not just for the sake of it. That in itself is sexist. If we're going to go that route, how about electing Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachman president?

That's not to say that only men should be president. Women should have the same opportunity to run for the office as well. However, the decision has to come down to who has the best policy positions. I made the choice to vote for Jill Stein in this election because I agreed with her the most on policy. But between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton, I thought Bernie was the best choice by far. And it was because of policy, not gender.

When talking about equality, I personally prefer the term "humanism" to feminism. It just sounds more inclusive to me.

As such, it should only be a victory for a woman to win if she had the best policy positions and leadership skills.

Same here. I see nothing inherently better about either gender. I care about policy, not what's between a person's legs.

What is sexist is that women just can't seem to reach the same level.
Take the election. There is absolutely no way that anyone can claim that the most qualified person was elected President. The experience factor is what many men bring up when asked why there aren't more women at the top. That is utter bullshit! Women get higher educated than men these days. But it still can't be seen.

Power is something that people who have it are not extremely likely to hand away willingly. It seems apparent that we have to force it.

As great as a woman is, she has a more difficult way to reach the top than a man with same skills. And sometimes, is slightly less qualified than the woman.

But maybe it's a matter of time? It was only 50 years ago when women were mostly housewives. It's possible that in another 50 years that the process is "complete". However, it does seem to stand quite still right now. Women are judged harshly on social media while men get away more easily for the same things. Not to mention that Trump's statements regarding women didn't scare voters off. Not even female voters. That to me is unbelievable. All hell would have broken loose if Hillary had said something similar about men.

I was impressed by Hillary's gracious speech..

Yes, I'd agree this was a very nice speech. :hat:

Glad you guys could say something positive. I loved it. So graceful, and exactly how you want a politician to act. Like a respectful grown-up instead of a sour spoiled brat.

And I will say that Trump's winner speech didn't make me want to vomit. He toned it down, which was the best thing to do.

Although, after the pictures of Hillary & Donald at that gala a couple of weeks ago where they seemed friendly, I am not really surprised. I think most of their attacks were mostly for show.

I don't know how things work in Sweden, but I'm pretty sure the statistics from Forbes only apply to the United States.

Acting is not the same as your typical 9 to 5, hourly wage job. They have to negotiate how much they're paid. In television, contract negotiations are an ongoing process. I don't think it's right that women are undervalued in film and television, but I believe the Hollywood wage gap is its own separate thing. It should be corrected, of course, but I don't think it's representative of pay inequality across the board.

The only way to see who get's the shortest end of the stick, men or women, you do have to compare. Even with violence. Men are more violent than women. Both men/men and men/women.

We should all strive for equality, but we have to keep in mind men and women still have their differences. Although both sexes can have their share of masculine and feminine traits, men do tend to be physically stronger and more prone to violence. However, my point is violence should not be tolerated regardless of who is doing it. That's why it I hate phrases like "You should never hit a woman." How about you should never hit anybody?

And since we're on the subject of equality, what about divorce? Women tend to make bigger financial gains and win custody suits in divorce cases far more than men. There is an upside and a downside to everything.

Sarah Palin had experience as governor. Should she have been VP, or is there potentially more at play than just experience?

As for Hillary, she was a Senator, a Secretary of State, and the first female Democratic nominee for president. She's currently winning the popular vote by over two million. If it weren't for the antiquated electoral college, she would have won the election. She wasn't screwed just because she's a woman, though. Al Gore also won the popular vote against George Bush, and still lost due to the electoral college.

And while Clinton certainly had more experience than Trump, her political record still left a lot to be desired. But that's another issue which I've addressed in other threads.

Power is something that people who have it are not extremely likely to hand away willingly. It seems apparent that we have to force it.

I find it hard to believe that women have it that bad in the first world. There are many accomplished women. Some of them may have had to work a little harder to get there, but they still made it.

But maybe it's a matter of time? It was only 50 years ago when women were mostly housewives. It's possible that in another 50 years that the process is "complete". Not everybody that voted for Trump did so because they liked him or agreed with everything he said. Trump promised to bring jobs back to the US, so some people voted for him for that reason.

And from what I've seen of social media, it appears to be an equal opportunity playing field for judgement and ridicule.

The idea that the woman isn't automatically the "victim" is a hard concept for a lot of people to wrap their brains around. And these women (except for Whoopi) are caught up in that noble belief system.

God bless Whoopi. She only speaks the truth, and the example she gives about telling a boy not to hit girls is true. I have a lot of nieces and nephews and I have seen that young girls use this and manipulate it because that's what we teach them. They can effectively do as they please and not have any repercussions. I have seen girls tormenting boys, and they can be clever in their tormenting! Even hitting them until the boy has had enough and smacks the girl and then it's the boy that is punished!

Don't hit ANYONE unless you are prepared to be hit back. Regardless of gender.

Although sometimes even Whoopi goes too far. I've seen her defend too many legitimately abusive males, as well, including the Mel Gibsons, et al.

But her willingness to go against political correctness is admirable.

What's most appalling (but not surprising) is the other women on the dais who just keep shaking their heads in stern, unbudgable disapproval of a woman not being right no matter what that woman actually does: there are strict rules for men, and none for women, and even suggesting that their should be rules for women, too, is considered misogyny.

This why we need fourth wave feminism, but third wave just won't shut its pie hole and get out of the way.
