Is the first American pope actually a big issue in the US? I watch US daytime soaps and expected preemptions, since Leo had his first appearance at the same time the soaps were airing, but nothing happened and all the soaps stayed on the air. If the president had had a bad cough at noon, the regular network program would surely have been interrupted to talk about it all afternoon, but the first American pope wasn't worth changing the program.

The election of the new pope did surprise me. I had initially ruled out an American, but rather considered whether it would actually be an Italian again, which I consider a step backward, or a non-white pope, which would have been exciting.

I fear that the new pope will have a difficult time, and that Americans (the press or Trump fans in particular) will try to find or fabricate dirt on him. I've already read too many comments that he's woke and therefore not a true Christian.

I hope Leo avoids meeting JD Vance for as long as possible. I mean, less than 24 hours after Pope Francis shook JD's hand, he was dead. And then there's the Zelensky drama: Trump and Zelensky can talk reasonably in private, but as soon as JD Vance is involved, it's a disaster. So, for Leo's sake, I hope he has nothing to do with JD Vance.

So Vance murdered the pope? I mean .... maybe ... but I'd need to see more evidence.

What we needed was a sassy, black, trans-lesbian-pope, twerking her masses for the masses from the Vatican. Now that would have been exciting!

But, noooooooooo -- just another stuffy white guy in a dress. Only he's from Modesto (or something like that).

No, I don't mean that JD Vance killed the pope, although everyone would probably claim that if someone from the Russian government had shaken the pope's hand shortly before his death. JD Vance simply has extremely bad energy, as Trump-Zelensky meeting demonstrated with him present. A seriously ill man like Pope Francis, who was exposed to such bad energy from JD Vance, can be damaged—and unfortunately, he has in the worst way.

Leo recently said of JD Vance: "JD Vance is wrong: Jesus doesn't ask us to prioritize our love for others. There's a Christian concept that says you love your family first, then your neighbor, then your community, then your fellow citizens—and only then the rest of the world. A large part of the radical left has completely reversed that."

Unfortunately, I think that's the problem even now after not only 24 hours: Leo and the Catholics of the world against Trump and his American Christians. The world has already put too much focus on the USA and now everything the American pope says will be interpreted in this way, whether it is a hidden statement about Trump or not.

I'll admit I was already wondering if Leo's election was a reaction to Trump - as an attempt to appease, or as a pushback - either way.

I'm not Catholic, so my opinion doesn't mean much but when bother the American far right and far left are upset about who is the Pope?

They probably chose the right guy.
