Hyperion Bay

I don't know if I've said this before, but I gotz mah VHS tapez from ma pa aaaaaaaaaaaaaand...

I apparently recorded the last four episodes of Hyperion Bay. It's Frank Southified and Carmen "Go-Go Dancer" Electra does her best to bring a Heather Locklear to the show. It all fails. The cast is incredibly weak. It does tie up most storylines in the series finale with a tiny cliffhanger, but that's only important if you cared about the characters (you don't).

Still. Trudy suing the main characters for whatever-whatever WAS sort of exciting.

As I said on the Pacific Palisades thread, I've never seen Hyperion Bay, but how on Earth a character played by Cassidy Rae could be anyone's favorite is beyond me. She was so annoying as Sarah on Melrose Place (that idiot got Jo pushed down the stairs) and Models Inc.!

I just did a quick Google search and apparently there's one full episode on Dailymotion, not sure if it's even worth checking out. If your solution to boost the ratings is to bring in multiple Razzie Award nominee Carmen Electra, something is clearly wrong with your show.

If we're gonna talk about Models Inc - let's talk about Anna, the last minute attempt at a break out character like Sydney. Poor Frank South/Chuck Pratt just don't know why we liked Sydney. (the episode title Boxing Sydney still makes me laugh)

Oh, really? I've never been too fond of the "unrelated dead ringer" plot twist on any show but I had no problem with Stephanie Romanov (Teri/Monique) as an actress, in fact I liked her a lot as evil lawyer Lilah Morgan on Angel. And I guess, I must be the exception because I clearly was on Monique's side in her feud with Emma Samms's Grayson. But yeah, I didn't like Anna at all.

Apologies for going even further off topic but did anyone watch the other WB series that Mark Paul Gosselaar did after Hyperion Bay ended? It was called D.C and followed the exploits of a group of young friends working in politics in Washington? I remember enjoying it but I'd imagine if I watched it now, it'd be like watching West Wing-lite.

Back on the subject of Hyperion Bay, I watched it at the time because back then I watched anything soapy, regardless of quality. I recall finding it pretty unremarkable, mainly because Melrose Place was running at the same time and Hyperion seemed so tame in comparison. Also, the opening credits with the laptop screen looked so immediately dated, even back then.

When you look at Hyperion, Dawsons Creek, Safe Harbor, Seventh Heaven etc, the WB definitely had a small town theme going at the time. Which I suppose they carried on into the 00's with the likes of One Tree Hill and Everwood.

While I was a fan of Dawsons Creek for a period, I think I just preferred my soaps more high octane around that time, having grown up on a diet of Aaron Spelling's LA soaps.

I'm trying to remember the title of a late 90s/early 2000s tv series (it wasn't out-and-out soap, but there was deceit and scandal etc) about a group of young Canadian lawyers...unfortunately it was cancelled after one season.
