Or Charlotte Rampling?

But perhaps it was better that Francesca and Sable looked completely different?
In that case, CR as Lady Ashley.

Should Lady Ashley (I don't want to call her "Mitchell" because "Ashley Mitchell" is positively, kitschily too GWTW-ish -- I always want her called something like "Ashley Fonteyn/Fontaine" but didn't Joan play a "Fontaine" in one of those movies written by her sister?) have been the same person as Sable's sister?

Imagine Lady Ashley, played by Jackie Bisset, surviving the Moldavian massacre before relocting to THE COLBYS once it spins off to make life miserable for Stephanie Beacham?

Thanks to @Richard Channing for the fab graphic!

To be honest, I think Katharine Ross was a good choice for the Francesca we actually saw on The Colbys. Not because she was so fabulous, but because it made sense, somehow.
She was weak, inconsiderate, undecided - but not malicious. The Colby residence was the worst place for her to be, but it made for some good soap.

That makes sense. But Frankie's boringness was just too boring for me.

but not malicious
But, I mean what is more malicious than engaging in an affair with your sister's husband? I don't know, maybe concealing the fact that you bore his bastard son and then palmed him off with his uncle to raise him, deserting that son for over 20 years? No, maybe not that? Maybe the really malicious thing she did was insisting that Jason throw Sable out of her home, and when that didn't happen quick enough for her she moved herself into that home. Flaunting herself around like lady of the manor.
No.... That's not it. The most malicious thing she did was tell Jason to go back to Sable when she thought she may have been about to expel her last mousy little breath. She's ruined the marriage, all but destroyed the whole family and didn't even have the courage to stand by her own convictions. Weak bitches can be just as malicious as strong ones.

Don't even try to tell me that Frankie was not malicious. Just because she was doe eyed while doing it doesn't mean she wasn't malicious.

The Colbys was a soap with balls, and Frankie was merely making a stand. You know how indecisive these soap men can be, it would go on forever.
She could have waited a little longer (not very interesting to watch, btw) but that wouldn't change the fact that Jason and Sable's marriage was over.
Besides, Sable had no intention to leave at all so what good would it do to wait another week, another month, another year?

What Frankie was saying was: I am NOT going to be another soap victim. Not again. (Bravo! Bravo!)
Well, that almost worked until her devious husband returned.

The most malicious thing she did was tell Jason to go back to Sable when she thought she may have been about to expel
And Sable would have taken him back because an unhappy marriage is better than no marriage at all. Sable is all about pretence, Frankie isn't.

Frankie made a life out of playing the eternal victim.

Ludicrous. Frankie didn't even love Jason. How could she have, she hadn't seen him in over 20 years. She was in love with the idea of her first boink back when she was what? 17? Who is the same at 17 as they are 40 or 50 or 60 for that matter? Utter ridiculousness! She didn't love Jason, she was probably long embittered at the fact that Jason and Sable stayed married all those years and were happy! While she started notching up husbands. She was so clearly unbelievably jealous of Sable and her life and she set out to snatch it all away, because she was malicious.
Sable would have taken Jason back because she loved him. She loved him to point of obsession and until Frankie shows up and starts playing her victim role Jason is besotted with Sable. I wont defend Jason though, he's just as vile as Frankie.

But you have to be trolling me again.

If that's what she did then she did it gracefully, far far away from Colby Land.
Unlike Sable who played the exiled queen still living in the castle, flaunting her "misfortune".

This is all pure speculation and not at all how it was told in the series.

See, that's what trolls do, accusing the innocent of troll behaviour. It's a pattern:)

Oh come on... The professional widow.
At least Alexis had the defence of being banned from seeing her children and threatened with violence and ruination. Frankie just abandoned Jeff, and worse, to a man like Cecil!

I mean sure it wasn't said explicitly but anyone with eyes could see the seeds of Frankie's desire for Jason. Why she wanted him... Of all men, and it wasn't because of his toupee.

Agree, that was a very bad decision. And she had to live with that pain until she and Jeff were reunited. It was all so very tragic.

Wrong again, there were no seeds. She already loved him which is why she didn't want to return to California.
But that bitch sister Sable was giving her son a hard time, she simply had no choice! She couldn't let Jeff down again.
