Jeremy Kyle show suspended indefinitely

The Jeremy Kyle show has been pulled from TV screens and suspended indefinitely after the death of a guest who appeared in an episode.

ITV bosses said they would not screen the episode which featured the individual. The person died a week after the recording.


ITV bosses said "their thoughts are with their family and friends."

An ITV spokeswoman said: "Everyone at ITV and The Jeremy Kyle Show is shocked and saddened at the news of the death of a participant in the show a week after the recording of the episode they featured in and our thoughts are with their family and friends.


“ITV will not screen the episode in which they featured."

Viewers first noticed the show was axed this morning when they tuned in to watch.

One person wrote online: "Anyone got it? Any explanation?"

The rumour (not confirmed) is that a guest committed suicide a few days after appearing on the show which kind of fits in with why ITV would take the show off the air immediately.

It shouldn't have taken the death of a guest on the show to take this vile programme off the air. The show is poverty porn at it's very worst. For years it has exploited poor and defenceless people for purpose of entertainment. Mr Kyle shouting angrily at vulnerable people and whipping up the audience into a frenzy of hate against them without having a care in the world about their mental health. This cynical and wicked exploitation of predominantly working class people should have been stopped years ago.

I've never watched more than maybe 10 minutes of the show but that was more than enough for me. Mr Kyle sanctimoniously telling people how to live their lives after spending the earalier part of the show attacking them, ridiculing them, running them down and manipulating the audience into booing them is bear baiting at it's very worse.

By all accounts the man had taken a polygraph to prove he hadn't cheated on his partner, but failed the test.

Whatever the truth in this case, it's a concern that these are used in such a sensationalist way on the show. There's a reason polygraphs aren't allowed to be used as part of the judicial system: they're unreliable.

From what I've seen of Kyle, there's a lot of emphasis on huge emotions, which more often than not means people finding out in the cruellest possible way they've been betrayed. Some people love being in the midst of that kind of dysfunction, but for most it can only be a damaging experience.

There are now calls for the series to be scrapped altogether. And not before time.

Sounds to me like a British Dr. Phil, or even a British Maury (Povich)!

You bet! They're already in hospital for one thing wrong with them-- they don't need the added stress of that Jeremy Kyle joker; I'm glad they want it on Smooth radio, because that's far less stressful (much the same way as I would want it on sports talk radio here in America, because Republican political talk radio drives me up the wall)!

The Jeremy Kyle Show has been axed by ITV after the death of a guest who took part in the programme.

Steven Dymond was found dead on 9 May a week after filming the show, during which he took a lie detector test.

Carolyn McCall, ITV's CEO, said: "Given the gravity of recent events we have decided to end production of The Jeremy Kyle Show."

ITV had initially suspended filming, and the prime minister's spokesman called the death "deeply concerning".

I'm told that on the show when people fail the lie detector Jeremy Kyle calls them a liar and the audience often boo them. This is totally irresponsible because lie detectors are not infallible and if they use such equipment they should make it clear that results can be unreliable. It's entirely possible that the lie detector results were incorrect and Mr Kyle and the audience turned against this man unfairly. The coroner's inquest will be fascinating.
