There was a question on Fifteen To One about The Graduate and it showed Linda’s leg on the poster - Sandi Togsvik gave her a mention!! :spinning:

Yes they are @Billy Wall - and some would argue with your comments! I certainly wouldn’t call Pam and Bobby a super couple - JR and Sue Ellen were together at the very end, and we love them, which is what this thread is for.

To quote Joan Van Ark - when Linda and Larry walked in, ‘it was as if the King and Queen had arrived’. There you have it.

We have a Pam and Bobby thread - this one is for JR and Sue Ellen fans. No negativity here about this Super Duper Couple -thanks :)

The same could have been said for a younger Sue Ellen, I imagine she was bored s***less in the early days when she had nothing to do, no husband to love her and no children. Sue Ellen loved JR and had Patricia's teachings drilled in to her, she couldn't leave and she didn't want to leave, but there wasn't much at Southfork that was really pulling her to stay either.
Damn. The House of Windsor stole an early subplot from The House of Southfork. Replace the above name of Sue Ellen with Diana and you have your story.

Not really @Rove since Diana's mother was more absent than Patricia. She was closer to her father. Also William was born within a year after the wedding so she never had much time without kids after they got married.

Still I can see why you draw paralells between JR/SE and Charles/Diana, as I did the same when I was a teenager. :fp::innocent: Like for instance Diana fell down the stairs when she was pregnant, with I think it was William, just as Sue Ellen fell down the stairs when she was pregnant with John Ross. In fact I used to think there was so much of a resemblance that the first time when I watched JR Returns and JR/SE got back together again after everything that had happened a part of me believed that if JR/SE could work it out so could Charles and Diana. I know it's silly considering they were already divorced by then. But I really liked Charles and Diana together and I believe she truly loved him. He was the love of her life even if Camilla is the love of his life. It's sad but I think it's true. So well a main difference between JR/SE and Charles and Diana is that JR and Sue Ellen loved each other. There was never a mistress that meant more to JR than Sue Ellen did!

So, here’s one for 2021- if JR and Sue Ellen had a second child would you have wanted it to be a boy or girl? For me, had to be a girl, looking just like her mama but with the spirit and determination of her daddy, someone who would give her older brother a real run for his money. She would be a real daddy’s girl too. Finally, did any of you think that the baby Sue Ellen lost was Peter’s? I never did for one second. Sue Ellen had sympathy sex with Peter but her night of passion with JR was hot to the power hot and bound to have resulted in her conceiving. Happy new year all :)

Yes and THANK GOD someone posted a question. YAY!

Anyway...yes I think a girl. And I also think a girl would have made JR wake up to the fact that there was more to life than Ewing Oil. Seeing a little girl as beautiful as Sue Ellen and looking up to her daddy would have mellowed him so much I think. Not making him soft like, because that's not JR, but he did want another child with Sue Ellen and it could be the making of them as a little four person family.

No way was the child Peter's. I think Peter wouldn't have even really known what he was doing. JR and Sue Ellen had really hot steamy sex the night she conceived, and I've always believed the child was his. Never believed James was though or anyone else for that matter! Just John Ross - anyone else, I refuse to acknowledge. And only with Sue Ellen.

Girl not just to give JR something to think about re his attitude towards women but also because if they had a daughter then hopefully John Ross wouldn't end up in the same competitive place JR did with his brothers growing up. It might have been easier to not compare the two so much had there been such an obvious difference. Lucy was spoiled and didn't pay much attention to her education however no one really pressed her to either, so I'm not surprised.

As for Peter, well he was younger and capable of producing children, but I'd really like to think that he didn't with our Sue Ellen lol

Interesting questions! A second child would've been lovely, especially a girl, for all the reasons already mentioned. And yes, the child she was carrying was with J.R. Sue Ellen seemed kinda weirded out by Peter -- understandably! -- so she was probably extra careful that afternoon. Poor Sue Ellen. Ew. Peter was one of the worst plot devices ever on Dallas.

Must say, those JR/SE scenes in the hospital when she lost the baby were so good, though. Just several of so many underrated moments between them that sparkled because of their chemistry.

Happy New Year!

Unpopular opinion here but I've always assumed that the lost child actually was Peters!:eck:
The reason I thought that was because when Sue Ellen was pregnant with John Ross she fell down the stairs, drank lots and was in a car crash and yet the baby survived. But this second baby she miscarried after being hit by a car. So the way I reasoned was that if it had been JR's baby she wouldn't have lost it. Maybe it doesn't make any sense but that's how I have always thought.

Also when Sue Ellen asked the doctor if she had been pregnant when at the Oil Baron's Ball as well the doctor didn't give her an answer and just said it didn't matter. So it makes me think it was Peter's baby. :(

Anyway I would have loved it if JR and Sue Ellen would have had another child and I think it should have been a girl!

You mean JR’s baby’s are stronger @Karin Schill ?

I don’t think it matters who the father is if a pregnancy isn’t meant to be... you mean like the babies reacted differently to each accident therefore had different fathers?

@Sarah yes exactly I always assumed that a Ewing baby would be stronger!

Of course it could as easily have been that Sue Ellen miscarried the second baby since the accident happened much earlier on in the pregnancy.

Interesting theory @Karin Schill !

I hope we can keep the discussion open on this thread.

I was wondering what anyone thought of the night before the blue sheet scene? Sue Ellen visits JR at the office to ask him to escort her to the fundraiser. He of course agrees, and she leaves saying ‘I’ll be back at Southfork’. He tells her he ‘won’t be far behind’. She says ‘see you later...’ and kisses him on the cheek.

What do you think that evening was like for them, in anticipation of the next? I imagine lots of flirtatious smiles and the odd touch, sitting together at dinner, perhaps a glance before bedtime...?

Oh yes I think that evening before would have been charged with tension between them. I reckon Sue Ellen would have been subtly flirtatious to make sure he would be begging for her after the fundraiser. In terms of the blue sheets scene itself, I like the part where Larry discreetly holds the sheet up when Linda turns over to preserve her modesty or not show what she had on underneath. He really was a very underrated actor in my opinion even on all that champagne lol :)

Ooo I agree!!! Flirtatious and I bet his tongue was hanging out!!!

Linda always used to say Larry was very shy with those type of scenes. If you notice the camera is rarely on his face in their kissing scenes. But when it is or when it’s them both - wow!!!! Enough with the modesty covering! I don’t want to talk about that. I need the nakedness!!!

Aw that’s quite sweet re Larry being shy! That said though, the two of them always managed to make their love scenes hot and totally believable. Do you think the writers recognised that and how popular those scenes were with the fans and so did their best to interweave them into the stories for the given season? :)

Oh they absolutely did. They have both told the story that the writers picked up on the undeniable chemistry between them. But they didn’t have to write it in as such. As Linda said, the cameras rolled and the magic just happened! No two people more destined to be together - on film or anywhere else!

Totally believable as a passionate couple who, deep down, always loved each other. I’m struggling to think of any other on screen couple who matched them save for, perhaps, Burton and Taylor but they had a real life tempestuous relationship to draw their artistic skills from :)
