I am so sorry to see Obama leave office and so proud to have supported him. In 2007 I attended my one and only caucuses on the Island of Kauai and learned all about the amazing man running for President. In his home state no less! I admit I was a Hillary supporter and wanted eight years of Hillary followed by eight years of Obama but am very happy to take the reverse.
I was skeptical at first and saw a few fumbles at the start but once he got his footing he became a great President. With unemployment half of what it was when he took office, the deficit shrinking (and only when Democrats are in power to Republicans care about the deficit. When they are in power "deficits don't matter.") Markets soaring and gas prices around $2 a gallon in the States even his most hardened critics have to admit his successes. Plus he is the first President ever in my lifetime not to have a single ethical administration lapse. NOT E V E N ONE claim!
Obama has soared in becoming the fiercest advocate for equality we have ever had and is a key reason we have marriage equality nationwide. This will be his strongest legacy.
I wish Obama had taken a much tougher stance against wall street, included a public option in Obamacare, and been willing to prosecute corporate criminals and am saddened to see the Democrats as seemingly held hostage to the delusion of CEO worship as the Republicans are. As the CEO of Wells Fargo demonstrates many are bold-faced criminals who could care less about anything but lining their own pockets by any means necessary. The culture of growth at any cost and a complete disregard for honest products at fair prices and basic ethical behavior being the norm is distressing and the President can do a lot to force them. Trust but verify is the term Reagan used and corporate America is in desperate need of a system of checks and balances to keep them honest.
President Obama has carried himself with incredible dignity, grace and strength and never in modern history has political opposition been so nakedly partisan and so racist. A black man in charge is not acceptable to a certain percentage of the population and the so-called birther movement one of the darkest, ugliest and most racist movements in American history that has in a straight line led to the disgrace currently nominated for President by the Republican Party.
I am so proud to be an American when I see Obama in the White House and incredibly hopeful that Obama and his Presidency will forever be modeled by future administrations. I hope and pray Obama and Michelle have long political lives and active political voices for decades to come.
