I've been re-watching this and I finally got to season 5 which I haven't seen since it originally aired and the show was just god awful. Now I see what people meant when they said the show went downhill. It was painful to watch and so drastically different that I had to check the credits to see if I could notice anything different. What do you know, John Romano who infamously destroyed Knots Landing in season 13 had joined the show. Suddenly it all made sense.

I will say, the show did seem to turn itself around in the final season, so I'm happy it at least got to end with some dignity, but it was *so* close to having a consistent run.

I liked the first few episodes, but, yes, it turned fecal pretty quickly.

I hated the Bailey-turns-alcoholic storyline. Their attempts to show "layers" to the in-house "nice" character by turning him into a bastard was just their predictable way of not writing decently for decent people because writers rarely know how to do that. (Hence, what happened to Krystle, Wojo on BARNEY MILLER, Barbara on ONE DAY AT A TIME, etcetera...)

And I have a bit of a thing for Scott Wolf.
