I had no idea of her impressive age.

I'm sorry to hear of Shelia's death. Annie 'Ma' Sugden was legendary in EMMERDALE FARM and EMMERDALE. To return to the show as a guest star in 2009 after last appearing 12 years prior was a testament to the caliber of the woman. May her soul Rest In Peace!

If I think of Emmerdale I think of Emmerdale Farm as that was the show my Nan watched and at that time featured Annie Sugden.

100 is a great old age and a life well lived

There should be a tribute episode to Sheila or at the very least at the end of the closing credits, showing a photo with her year of birth and death. There was so much brought to the table from Annie Sugden. EMMERDALE at the minute doesn't have a strong elderly working class woman like Annie. TPTB need to take inspiration from the past.

This is sad news.

Been watching the classic 1990s episodes at the moment and it’s lovely seeing Annie.

Annie was a unique soap matriarch, she had outlived all three of her husbands, all three of her children, and even several of her grandchildren predeceased her; Sam and Sally - Matt’s twins with Peggy died in the 70s, Jackie Merrick in the 80s and both Hughes siblings in the 90s who were her step-grandchildren.

They have tried to make Diane into the new Annie in recent years but Annie took no nonsense and I feel that Diane has only ever loved Victoria and Andy But was reserved on Robert and we’re told that she was very loose in raising Bernice, Annie had no favourites, she loved everyone equally.

I hope there will be a special episode for her in 2020
