Movie Top Ten Someone, take over the baton

Interesting that BECKET got so few votes.

I have to admit that despite my generally unchanging tastes from toddlerhood until now, my view of BECKET has shifted a great deal. When I first saw it in my teens, and tried to watch it again years later, it didn't work for me -- I found it drab and dry and boring, so I dismissed the gushing reviews as one of those '60s things where pretentious cinema often got the plaudits.

And while I can understand why it hit me that way then, boy, it doesn't now. A few years ago, I gave it another go -- perhaps because it's a prequel of sorts to LION IN WINTER (which I'd always loved), and to my surprise, I suddenly thought BECKET was great.

As I said, my tastes and viewpoints about movies rarely change much at all -- my opinion at, say, age 12 is usually pretty consistent with my opinion today at, ummmm, post-12. But something finally clicked and I "got" the ice cold, cinematic incantation it offers. So now I watch it probably a couple of times a year.

I agree that it's interesting that Becket got so few votes. I thought it might go higher on the list. But at the same time I struggled with which movies to put on my list and somehow Becket ended up just below the list for me.

Anyway I am glad to hear that you are enjoying the movie so much now.

Oh and I've finally seen "The Lion In Winter" and you were right it's an excellent movie too!

The movie is considered one of the best 100 movies ever made by the American Film Institute.
