Discovery adds another five members to its crew, including Penny Dreadful's Shazad Latif
Five new members have just boarded Bryan Fuller's Star Trek: Discovery.
On Friday (April 28), CBS released another round of new cast members for the upcoming series, adding to Discovery's ever-growing cast.
The first is Shazad Latif, who will play Lieutenant Tyler, a Starfleet officer in the Federation – and if he sounds familiar, it may be because you've already seen him as Dr Henry Jekyll in Penny Dreadful.
Kenneth Mitchell (Ghost Whisperer) will play Klingon Empire commanding officer, while Clare McConnell and Damon Runyam (Degrassi: Next Generation) play Klingon Empire leaders named Dennas and Ujilli, respectively.
TV veteran Rekha Sharma (The 100) will also star as Commander Landry, the Discovery's security officer.
Previously confirmed for Discovery is Harry Potter and The OA's Jason Isaacs, who will star as Captain Lorca, while The Walking Dead actress Sonequa Martin-Green leads the cast as First Officer Michael Burnham.
Doug Jones (Hellboy), Anthony Rapp (Rent) and Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) will also star.
The TV series is now filming, though just eight months after he was announced as showrunner, Bryan Fuller departed the project.
Fuller previously said that his busy schedule played into his exit from Star Trek: Discovery – and insisted that he is satisfied with how things worked out.
"With Star Trek, ultimately it was about not being able to do what CBS needed to be done in the time that they needed it done," he said. "I will miss doing Star Trek, but this is the best path."

Seems like "The Orville" on FOX will be my thing to watch! Great fun and it even looks more Star-Trekky than "Discovery" does to me!
They just got the whole visual tone right from the getgo, that's how a bridge on a Star Trek show should look like today for me!

Oh, how I would much prefer a Trek series set in the future of what we've seen, I guess I just have to take what's on offer and hope that someone will take us further in to the future.
I'm still pretty cautious with how this new series will work and it feels like a lifetime since it was first put out there.

The Orville looks more acceptable as a show to bridge the gap visual wise with TOS than Discovery. I think the trailer looked good, but they should've just set it in the Kelvin timeline with the movies so the visuals make more sense. They aren't even remotely trying to stay anywhere similar to TOS so why bother? They should've just set the show after Voyager so they didn't have to worry with anything.

The upcoming TV series will be coming to Netflix in all territories outside of the US and Canada on Monday, September 25.
In the US, CBS will air the first episode on Sunday, September 24 before new episodes premiere on streaming platform CBS All Access.
Interestingly, the first season will be split into two halves.
The first eight episodes will run on Netflix from September 25 to November 6, with the second chapter to be shown from January 2018.
Star Trek: Discovery follows the voyages of Starfleet on their missions to discover new worlds and new lifeforms. The series will feature a new ship, new characters and new missions.
Sonequa Martin-Green, Michelle Yeoh, Terry Serpico, Maulik Pancholy, James Frain and Doug Jones are among the cast.

It had never occurred to me that she might be half-Vulcan. I thought it was established at some point that Spock was the first such in Starfleet but I may be wrong on that.
