Okay so the votes are counted and not so surprisingly our favorite movie from the 1930's is this classic:

gone_with_wind.jpg

Gone With The Wind (1939)

This movie follows Scarlett O'Hara's life during the Amerian Civil War. It's an epic romantic drama which places the fall of the old South in the center of it's plot. It also includes a classic love triangle as Scarlett is in love with Ashley Wilkes but he loves Melanie. Then later Scarlett meets the dashingly handsome Rhett Butler who is no gentleman. Gone With The Wind was produced by David O'Selznick and Clark Gable was offered the male lead while they did a wide search where they interviewed over 1000 girls for the heroine Scarlett. A role which Vivien Leigh eventually landed. Other noticable stars in the movie are: Olivia De Havilland and Leslie Howard. The movie is considered one of the most commercially successful movies ever and is also considered one of the greatest films of all time. It had two directors Victor Flemming and George Cukor. The movie is based on a book by Margaret Mitchell. It won 8 Oscars, including best picture, best supporting actress for Hattie McDaniel, who became the first African American to win an Oscar and a Best Leading Actress Award for Vivien Leigh.

You gave it a total of: 43 points.

Okay so next up I figured we'd list movies by this contemporary star:

f8a9c50a451a4808d3af9c6f8bc9fe42.jpg

Nicole Mary Kidman is an Australian-American movie star and producer. She was born on 20th June, 1967 in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. When she was 4 year old her parents moved back to Australia where Nicole Kidman grew up together with a younger sister. She is of Irish, Scottish and English descent. Nicole Kidman realized that she wanted to become an actress when she was in High School. So she learnt drama at the Philip Street theatre and also at the Australian theatre for young people.

In 1983 Nicole Kidman did her acting debut in the Australian movie “Bush Christmas.” Within a couple of years she had become a well known star in Australia but International stardom eluded her until she starred opposite her future husband Tom Cruise in Days of Thunder (1990). During the 1990s Nicole Kidman rose to fame around the globe and since then she has been able to sustain a successful career.

In 2003 she won an Oscar for the movie The Hours (2002). She has also won four Golden Globes. Over all she’s starred in approximately 60 movies up to date. But which one of her movies is your favorite?

Totals: In August.

I hear she's a predatory bitch, but she's good actress. (Well, Scorpio Rising, duh..)

My favorite Kidman film by far is THE OTHERS (2001), but she's great in everything.

I beg to differ. I believe that Nicole had it with 1989's Dead Calm -- still my all-time favourite of hers to this day.

I'm not particularly a fan. Hence the short list and the fact my second choice barely features her at all (I very nearly made it my #1 as it's the best film in my list. But it felt a little rude to do so in a Kidman round).

  1. The Stepford Wives
  2. Panic Room
  3. BMX Bandits
  4. Dead Calm
  5. Batman Forever

and....

6. Flipper

Im with @Mel O'Drama and not a huge fan

I used to think she was so pretty with her lovely cork screw hair and colour
now she looks washed out and botoxed to the hilt with an immovable face

I absolutely loved her in TV drama called

  1. Bangkok Hilton with Denholm Elliott, Hugo Weaving - it was brilliant and recommend it - she is set up by a boyfriend as a drug mule and gets caught in Thailand, its just great
  2. The railway man
  3. The Others (i fell asleep during this at the cinema!!)

That's cool. Feel free to list more Kidman films that you've enjoyed. :)

You know I debated with myself whether to put that movie or Days of Thunder as the film that catapulted her to International stardom. But went with Days of Thunder since it was a bigger commercial success worldwide. Dead Calm earned her critical acclaim in the USA but I don't think it was as successful as Days of Thunder at the box office.

Anyway I hope you will list more Nicole Kidman movies that you like too. :)

Okay so it looks like our favorite Nicole Kidman movie is:

004_-_Kopia.jpg

The Others (2001)
Nicole Kidman portrays Grace Stewart who is the widow of a soldier who is presumed dead in the Second World War. She fights for her childrens lives in this American, French, Spanish Horror/Thriller movie. It is basically a ghost story about a haunted house located in Jersey in the late 1940s. The movie was directed by Alejandro Amenabar. It was a commercial success and grossed around 209 million dollars.

You gave it a total of: 54 points.

Here's a trailer for the winning movie:

Then the runner up of this round was:
322.jpg

Moulin Rouge! (2001)
Nicole Kidman portrays Satine, a showgirl working at the Moulin Rouge! who falls in love with an aspiring author named Christian. This American Australian Movie is set in the early 1900s in Paris. It was directed by Baz Luhrmann. It's a Romantic Drama Musical movie. It's sound track "Come What May" became almost as famous as the movie. It was also considered somewhat groundbreaking when it came out since it mixed lots of phrases from previously famous songs so it's filled with intertextual references.

You gave it a total of: 39 points.

Okay so next up is this living legend:

doris-day-birthday-2.jpg

Doris Day is a legendary American Actress and singer. She was born as Mary Ann Kappelhoff on 3:rd April, 1922 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her father was a music teacher and choir master and her mother was a housewife. She was the youngest of three children but only grew up with one older brother as the other one had died before she was born. She is of German descent. As a teenager she was an aspiring dancer but a car accident in 1937 put an end to that dream. So she embarked on a career as a singer who sang with big jazz bands instead.

Her movie career got started with the movie Romance On the High Seas (1948). It was the beginning of a successful movie career that spanned 20 years. After her movie career faded she found success on TV with the Doris Day Show (1968-1973). After that she returned to her music career and has also become an animal welfare activist. She has won 4 Golden Globe Awards. Over all she has made approximately 40 movies, but which one is your favorite?

Totals: In September.
