I’ve been told that John Ross is looking into the details for taking The Ewing Motor Company public.”

“That’s great news. That’s what you wanted. You said he wouldn’t do it.”

“If he does agree, what would you say to moving up to Michigan to run the company?”

“Really? I suppose we could.”

“And I’d be running a Fortune 500 company. I guess Ewing Industries wouldn’t own any of it.”

“Really? It would just be you?”

“What would you say if I sold my shares in Ewing Industries to make this happen. Then take my company public on my own, retaining control on my own?”

“Are you serious. Is The Ewing Motor Company worth that much?”

“No.”

“Then why would you do it? I wouldn’t. But someone seems to think that if the dangle it in front of me, I’ll just with both feet and walk away from Ewing Industries.”

“John Ross?”

“I thought at first yes. He’s always had this thing about being a blood Ewing. But that was then. This is now. Without his father breathing down his back and having what he wants . . .”

“What, South Fork?”

“That’s part of it. But he’s got money of his own. I don’t know how much, but he’s got it. He doesn’t care about the things he used to, business, money, Ewing blood. Hell he’s trying to get Bobby and Betsy to move here. No, I don’t think it’s John Ross.”

“Who wants you gone.”

“Who do you think?”

“I don’t know. Not Jay, I can assure you of that. He has no interest in Ewing Industries. He’s kinda sick of his father breathing down his back about it.”

“No not Jay. Lucas.”

“You think so?”

Finishing his hot dog. “Oh I know so. He wants me out of the way. I guarantee it. Well, let’s see if his ass can handle what his mouth is dishing up.”

“Did you notice that Lucy and Robert Barkley are kinda cozy?”

“I noticed. They’re also going into business together. Lucy’ll be more a silent partner but they’re cooking something up.”

“What?”

“A nuclear energy business.”

“Nuclear energy,” Amy laughs. “What the hell do those two know about nuclear energy?”

“Way more than you think. Well, maybe not them personally, but Lucy’s advisors.”

“Are you worried about it?”

“Hell no. Keep her busy with her latest charity case. If anything, I’d like to get in on it from the ground floor. So, we’re gonna be extra nice to that looser and Lucy.”

“Got it.”

“And maybe you can find out if that daughter of his knows anything about what my so called brother is up to.”

“I can try.”

“I just don’t like any surprises.”

“I’ll let you know what I find out from both of them.”

Mateo gets ready in the staging area when Jay comes up. “What are you doing?”

“What’s it look like?” Mateo answers

“Looks like you’re going ride a damn bull and break your neck.”

“I’m not gonna break my neck. [QUOTE="stevew, post: 261613, member: 130"] Lucy and Mateo run into the hospital emergency room. “I’m Lucy Ewing. Go on.” The nurse takes Lucy back into the emergency room. John Ross and Leslie walk on the beach in the shadow of Casablanca. Their pants are rolled up, carrying their shoes, John Ross’s shirt unbuttoned pretty low, Leslie in a tank top, the warm, salty air of the early evening blowing off the blue sea. Tents go up at South Fork as Chris drives down the long driveway in his Ewing Roadster. Walking up to the house with swagger he says, “Lucy, come and check out our new car.” “To hell with your new car.” “What’s got into you?” “Robert Barkley. He’s in the hospital right now. He tried to kill himself.” “What? Why would the fool do something like that?” “I don’t know, because he’s broke.” “You’re not implying that’s my fault?” “You’re scheming. In the back of a limousine Monica says to Lucas, “Why are we at the hospital?” “I didn’t want you to worry all the way home, but we left early because something’s happened to your father.” “What?” She gets out of the car and runs into the hospital. Lucas runs after her. Because she can speak to the nurse he says, “This is Monica Barkley. She’s here to see her father.” “Miss Barkley. I’m . . . I’m afraid he’s not here?” “What do you mean he’s not here!” “He signed himself out and left this morning with Lucy Ewing.” Lucas says, “Thank you. It’s OK. I’ll just call Lucy.” He places the call. “Lucy. Lucas. We’re at the hospital. They said Robert checked out, with you, this morning . . . So where is he? South Fork?” Sitting on the sofa of a beautiful Moroccan mansion, looking out toward the ocean, John Ross hands Leslie a piece of paper. “It’s the last one I wrote, right after you left.” She hesitantly takes it. “I know my poetry was never very good, but . . .” She tears up reading it. “I meant ever word.” “Oh my God John Ross. Aunt Leslie explained it. You didn’t know about all the debt the company had taken on. It must have come as a terrible shock to you. I’m sorry I didn’t take it more seriously and stayed.” “No, you’ve got your life to live. I don’t want to be a burden to you.” “You could never be a burden to me. You’ll all I have, you and Aunt Leslie. I love you, daddy.” She hugs him. Lucy walks away with Lucas. “I’ve refinanced his debt,” she says. “Well that’s kind of you.” “It’s not a big deal. We’ve been talking about him going back into business himself. He doesn’t have much experience at starting up a company. But I’ve got an idea with ToGo.” Tents and stands and a crowd fill South Fork out back, an age old rodeo. John Ross with cowboy hat in hand asks Leslie to dance. The two take up with the boot-scooting crowd, which includes Lucas and Monica. Lucy takes Robert out and toward the fence where they hear an announcement for the bull riding even in twenty minutes. “All’s set. We own Glencoe.” “Or what’s left of it.” “True, most of it was sold off before ToGo got a hold of it, but it’s small uranium minning operation. And a friend got us a refinery up in Ontario. The one missing piece is NuFusion. We get that and we’re golden.” “If you can get something done in Washington to manage regulation.” “That’s nothing. You just be prepared to be up and running. As utility companies struggle to meet their commitment to carbon zero, you’ll help them cross the finish line and Glencoe will go public with enough fan fair to make a public offering that sets records.” “You’re sure of this?” “I’m confident in the people who are advising me. Now you’ve just got to pull off the networking.” She pats his chest. Amy walks up to Chris eating a hot dog by a stand. “What’s up?” “Lovely day for a rodeo,” he says. “Yes it is, but that’s not why you called me over.” “We’re going to be partners, right?” “As in a married couple?” “As in business partners.” “That too.” “Then I thought you should know. I’ve been told that John Ross is looking into the details for taking The Ewing Motor Company public.” “That’s great news. That’s what you wanted. You said he wouldn’t do it.” “If he does agree, what would you say to moving up to Michigan to run the company?” “Really? I suppose we could.” “And I’d be running a Fortune 500 company. I guess Ewing Industries wouldn’t own any of it.” “Really? It would just be you?” “What would you say if I sold my shares in Ewing Industries to make this happen. Then take my company public on my own, retaining control on my own?” “Are you serious. Is The Ewing Motor Company worth that much?” “No.” “Then why would you do it? I wouldn’t. But someone seems to think that if the dangle it in front of me, I’ll just with both feet and walk away from Ewing Industries.” “John Ross?” “I thought at first yes. He’s always had this thing about being a blood Ewing. But that was then. This is now. Without his father breathing down his back and having what he wants . . .” “What, South Fork?” “That’s part of it. But he’s got money of his own. I don’t know how much, but he’s got it. He doesn’t care about the things he used to, business, money, Ewing blood. Hell he’s trying to get Bobby and Betsy to move here. No, I don’t think it’s John Ross.” “Who wants you gone.” “Who do you think?” “I don’t know. Not Jay, I can assure you of that. He has no interest in Ewing Industries. He’s kinda sick of his father breathing down his back about it.” “No not Jay. Lucas.” “You think so?” Finishing his hot dog. “Oh I know so. He wants me out of the way. I guarantee it. Well, let’s see if his ass can handle what his mouth is dishing up.” “Did you notice that Lucy and Robert Barkley are kinda cozy?” “I noticed. They’re also going into business together. Lucy’ll be more a silent partner but they’re cooking something up.” “What?” “A nuclear energy business.” “Nuclear energy,” Amy laughs. “What the hell do those two know about nuclear energy?” “Way more than you think. Well, maybe not them personally, but Lucy’s advisors.” “Are you worried about it?” “Hell no. Keep her busy with her latest charity case. If anything, I’d like to get in on it from the ground floor. So, we’re gonna be extra nice to that looser and Lucy.” “Got it.” “And maybe you can find out if that daughter of his knows anything about what my so called brother is up to.” “I can try.” “I just don’t like any surprises.” “I’ll let you know what I find out from both of them.” Mateo gets ready in the staging area when Jay comes up. “What are you doing?” “What’s it look like?” Mateo answers “Looks like you’re going ride a damn bull and break your neck.” “I’m not gonna break my neck. This isn’t my first rodeo.” “Are you serious? Mateo, don’t you dare.” “Listen kid, just go up in the stands and watch.” “I’m serious Mateo. Please. Don’t.” “I’m fine.” Mateo gets up on the bull and Jay backs away with a look of horror. Mateo leaves the bull pen on the back of a bucking bull and quickly reaches eight seconds, still hanging on, then thirty seconds, then a minute, a minute and half, and right before two minutes he’s thrown, flying way off, landing face down, not moving.
