This wasn't done lightly and the main reason for this is because of all the bickering. The fight between some members spilled out into many of the threads.

We have asked the members to stop the bickering, they responded by continuing it on and questioning our decisions.

All in all we have had enough and the best way to contain this was to limit it to one thread.
In the past, those comments were removed and members were "incarcerated" for not following the rules.

The consequence of merging all of those election threads into one is that members who weren't involved in the personal bickering lost out on discussions they were a part of.

Believe me it has raised many eyebrows.

Merging all the threads into one may seem like it's a complete mess, but at least the mess is contained in one area and not spread over six pages.
I don't recall anything this drastic happening before. If I recall, these issues were handled directly in the past by editing threads and dealing with people who wouldn't follow the rules.

Admins can obviously do as they please, but it's disappointing that actual debate was also squashed as a result of this.

We've evolved over time as many forums do.

The consequence of merging all of those election threads into one is that members who weren't involved in the personal bickering lost out on discussions they were a part of.

Sadly that was the low point in this decision

You recall correctly and when we tried to do that this time it didn't resolve any of the issues.

There was six pages of threads, the mods were getting tired of having to scan through each thread to ensure members followed the guidelines. The mod team do this voluntarily and it was getting very time consuming.

Since we merged the threads, it's been much easier to control.

Admins can obviously do as they please, but it's disappointing that actual debate was also squashed as a result of this.

It also took a while to make this happen and there were many threads all saying the same thing.

This forum turned into a mess when some members started to create threads as a way of winding up other members that were in the opposite camp. Surely you saw that?

Again...

Since we merged the threads, it's been much easier to control.

I did like that thread....you should start it again.

Yes I agree some just can't be stand up people and be nice to others. I can understand that people will be happy if their candidate wins but I don't wish to see it rubbed into other peoples faces.

This has nothing to do with anything but I got up this morning and thought it was Wednesday morning and raced to the TV to see who had won...then I remembered it was only Tuesday :haha:

Tremendous... lol

I'm well aware that homophobic abuse isn't considered a problem here,
This is where I stopped listening to you. If you must keep on bringing up old feuds then you will find your account limited.

On a personal level, I believe you are trying your best to get banned from here - I'm not going to give you that satisfaction.

Not for nothing but when the old site crashed you put up bashing sites for the two candidates.. And it seemingly worked.. I did revive it here but it was inspired by the mods.. And obviously didnt work the same..

Its cool. Maybe a bad idea as it obviously goes beyond personal attacks.. A few people want their candidate not to be trashed but want to trash the opponent..

I think you guys are doing what you feel is right and sincerely feel guilty for my part to the people that didnt engage..

Last election i felt everyone was civil.. It just went south this summer..

I am hoping to prove on my end that the ooen threads can be trusted again..

This is where I stopped listening to you.
Most people who should care stopped listening long ago, as well as paying attention, apparently.

If you must keep on bringing up old feuds then you will find your account limited.
I'm well aware that I'm expected to purge anything that happened in the past, no matter how vile.

On a personal level, I believe you are trying your best to get banned from here -
Not really. I just frankly don't care either way anymore.

I'm not going to give you that satisfaction.
And to think you once welcomed and even encouraged my participation here. Now I'm public enemy #1.

I heard Mr Trump on the news comparing his campaign and victory with Brexit, it fact he said it would be "Brexit Plus". He is correct in some ways in making that comparison. Brexit was achieved largely by deceiving the public. The Crown Prosecution Service are currently investigating the Leave campaign for "fraudulent device or contrivance" in how they deliberately set out to achieve their aims through lying to voters. Since the vote leave in Britain:
  • inflation is rising rapidly
  • the value of the pound has nosedived
  • surveys are showing that more businesses are pessimistic about the future than positive for the first time in four years
  • the economy is predicted to grow more slowly
  • financial institutions are relocating out of the UK
  • racist or religious abuse incidents recorded by police in England and Wales jumped 41% in the month after the UK voted to quit the EU
  • concerns over the Northern Ireland Peace Plan have emerges because of the Brexit requirement to close the Border with the Republic.
  • the British government have used the vote to try and circumvent our democratic institutions and behave like dictators that cannot be scrutinised. Thankfully, the High Court has shot them down.
However, the disaster that is Brexit would pale into insignificance compared with the disaster that would be President Trump.

I think it's fairer to say most people got tired of the same posts happening over and over.

I'm well aware that I'm expected to purge anything that happened in the past, no matter how vile.

You're not expected to forget or even forgive anything that has happened in the past.

You're expected to stop bringing it up again and again. If you have an issue with another member then use the report function. There's even the ignore feature in place.

And to think you once welcomed and even encouraged my participation here. Now I'm public enemy #1.
You're still very welcome here, just stick to the guidelines.

This is my last correspondence with you, so I suggest you go back to discussing the topic of the presidential election.

I apologize for personally insulting you..

I disagree.. I didnt call you any names..

If very difficult to move on when someone who continually tries to make fools of people and continually engages in bear baiting of forum members. Apologies are meaningless and are just another mechanism used to achieve that aim. Alternatively, the thread is just spammed with memes against Hillary and Bill Clinton, many of which are slanderous. It's very difficult to stick to discussing the US Presidential election when that kind of environment persists but I will try to do what Michelle Obama said "when they go low, we go high".

The reality is even those who support him know full well he is unqualified and would bring the country to its knees. But the ability to scream "F* U N*" is so strong and being able to say it publicly over rides common decency, sense or even basic self-interest.

That Orange thing proves that the power of racial resentment and screaming, cowardly fear of the world as it is and a desire to return to a different and dark era, is a big motivator for Republicans, tired of the dog whistles and electing moneyed interests who laugh at them behind their backs for being so gullible.

With this nominee the modern party of evil is complete in earning that title but the results today will show that white resentment and bigotry is not only not acceptable, and deserves a swift two by four across the mouth, but is a big time losing proposition when trying to run for the nation's highest office.

The baiting continues..

I think your posts are slanderous..

And the memes are not personal attacks.. They are accurate descriptions of a woman I feel is a criminal, divisive, racist homophobic, inept, dolt..

And that is my opinion.. I never tell you how to express your opinion of Trump..

Ever since this conversation turned to solutions you and SER have turned to flamebait..

Its not going to work anymore..

If Trump loses, as the opinion polls seem to suggest will happen, it will mean in 6 of the last 7 presidential elections, the GOP will have polled fewer votes than the Democrats. The Republicans will have to recognise that pandering towards bigotry is a not a winning strategy if they ever want to win a future Presidential election. However, they never seem to learn the lesson.
