Watching the eagles

The same thing happened again on Friday to the second little one in Shephardstown. The male killed it not knowing it was a baby.

Oh no! .. this must happen more than we realised.

Someone made a series of images of the two eaglets in Shephardstown before the male killed them. The mother had even fed them so the process had started before tragedy struck.

This is so sad to see, they are tiny but perfect, I wonder how the poor mother Eagle reacted? I like to think they were killed quickly and didn't know much about it. Nature can be unbelievably nasty sometimes.

Lipstick and Guy are such great parents.

They are the best! :love5: .. The Three Amigos are very lucky to have them as parents. All day long they never stop with either hunting and providing food, feeding their youngsters or working on the nest by bringing fresh hay, they are fab.

I've watched them copy Guy and Lipstick by moving sticks and hay around the nest, I've never known eaglets do this before. These three are 'super-eaglets'




These parents are so very gentle with their brood .. .

they are too big to sit on now.

The more I watch them .. the more I love Lipstick and Guy, they are so devoted to each other, the nest and their growing brood, what a fab partnership they are .. I hope it will be like this for the beautiful and much missed Duchess from nest two one day.


Duchess's nest might be empty right now, but Mr Squirrel still stops by to keep an eye on things ...

I think that was Guy in the video, am I right Michelle? and did you notice how one of the eaglets took a great interest in what his Dad was doing? .. watching and learning



The eaglets seem to spend their days eating and sleeping and growing ..

Mealtimes are the highlight of the day and I've noticed how the three eaglets no longer bash each other at mealtimes, they haven't done that for a while now and its probably because they know that there will be more than enough food for them all provided by their amazing parents...

And oh my, they have grown so much ..

I first thought that this ^^ was either Lipstick or Guy, but no, its one of the Three Amigos looking so grown up.

They do look very dark now and yes ... 'look at those feet'...

Its like they actually hatch with adult sized feet ...

One of the eaglets is a builder too.

That's a very clever eaglet ... he has obviously inherited his Dads building skills.

They're getting big!

Aren't they just ... but then they have been very well fed since the day they first hatched.


Lipstick doesn't even need to bend over to feed them anymore ...

They are also so desperate to fly ..

it must be a wonderful feeling to realise you have wings

... and what large wings they are!



Our Three Amigos are now at that stage when they spend a lot of time watching, watching and more watching .....

they love seeing the world around them and probably want to be off to join in with life outside of the nest.




Lipstick still stays close overnight, although the nest is too full to fit her in now ...

.. as you can see, the Three Amigos cuddle together to keep safe and warm, meanwhile , Lipstick usually takes off her head for night times




Once again this Eagle family are a joy to watch again this season and the success is all down to this loving couple ...

This is great to see Michelle and oh my, there is always one or other of them moving all night . I do find it cute how close they sleep together




Today there has been even more flapping of wings ...

they have take it in turns to try out their wings due to lack of room.

I wonder which of The Three Amigos will fledge first? .. not that I can tell who is who, all three look the same to me






Guy is still busy everyday keeping the nest safe and comfy for his brood. Here he is with more fresh straw today ...

I'd love to be able to see where Guy and Lipstick get the straw and sticks from?

They are also excellent hunters, but I'd rather not see where they do their shopping for very fresh meat..

Something has changed in me. Today I finally noticed that I have been paying a lot attention to birds flying overhead.

Today while watching a Kite circling overhead it dawned on me that I now bird watch... if I'm making sense.

You're making perfect sense @Biggie .. and once you've noticed the birds you can never not-notice them again .. if I'm making any sense as well?





Lot of wings today as Guy flew in with some food ...

I'm just so glad that none of the Three Amigos fell out of the nest with all that pushing.

Everyday now when I log-in to the Eagle website I half expect one of our Three Amigos to have flown the nest and its a relief when I can still see all three, but I imagine they will be off into the world soon.



Lipstick has started leaving them alone overnight ...

and when Guy or Lipstick drop off food for them they have started being able to feed themselves ....

They can now get themselves upon the 'lookout' branch where Lipstick or Guy usually sit ...

and they are trying so hard to fly ..

Wow, the wingspan!


I will miss them when they go, but its been an honour to be able to watch their progress from day one.





Looking Back

This was the first Amigo who hatched march 20th

and here are all three Amigos on the 5th April ..

And 79 days later they've grown into three handsome teenagers ready for a new life .. ...

They are incredible! :love7:

Our three Amigos are ready to fledge any day now, but frustratingly the webcam is down and not working ... I hope its back up and running again soon.

you can see how much the eaglet has matured by its massive wing span.




Selfishly I'm hoping our Three Amigos haven't gone when the webcam eventually gets back up and working again. I'd love to see them take their first flights.

Sadly the webcam is still down and not working ... I keep imaging our Three Amigos taking their first flights and us missing it all. I've never known the cameras to be down for this long before, now I'm just hoping that they do eventually work again.

I think we can assume our Three Amigos have taken their first flights by now. I'm still hoping the webcams will work again soon before they fledge completely.

As you can see its no ones fault that this has happened, its just a shame that its happened at this crucial time.

It's sad that we may not see when our Three Amigos fledged the nest. Maybe when the camera returns they will still be making return visits for food.

Yay! The webcam is back up and working how I missed seeing them everyday.





And all three Amigos are still around

not the best photo, but you can clearly see three. What a relief it was to see them again, :love5:I thought they would've been long gone.






A lot of coming and going at the nest nowadays, our Amigos are off on adventures now , but so far keep popping back to the nest ..

Just two of them in this photo, they also still sleep on the nest overnight and are partly fed by Guy and Lipstick who make drop offs for them.

Another successful year for Guy and Lipstick who have raised and taught independence to three beautiful eaglets, they are the best parents.
