Watching the eagles

The juggling video is good.
It made me laugh

Guy seems uninterested, probably seen it before.
He was so unimpressed he almost rolled his eyes.

Do eagles migrate for winter? I understand that some birds travel amazing distances with navigational accuracy that would embarrass a Boeing 747.
I'm not sure? I think (and only think) they stay around the same territory all year long, I need to look this up.

"just look at what we've made"

Lipstick was seen rolling the egg(s) early this morning.

Here they are having a noisy changing over of shifts ...

This great because it means that either Lipstick or Guy will be on the nest all the time now :D

You can see it from their body language.

That is certainly an egg roll. :yeah: It's good we have better camera angles this year.

They were on the nest overnight.

Is it me or does this seem earlier than usual to see an egg already?

It's about on time, at least for the Guy and Lipstick nest. Maybe a week early but in the ballpark. They seem to be earlier than the Freedom/Liberty nest even though they are less than fifty miles apart in distance. In 2019 the Freedom/Liberty nest was later with a March egg laying and an early April hatching.

but do we know how many eggs are in the nest.
I think we might have more than one egg in Lipstick and Guys nest, its difficult to say as we haven't had a clear view of them yet.

Is there a typical number for Eagles? Would the hatchlings be in danger from the Owl and or other predators?
I think the typical number is up to three eggs. Both the eggs and the eaglets once they've hatched, will be very vulnerable, which is why they usually always have at least one of their parents with them. Right now, the egg(s) will be incubated by both parents taking it in turns to keep the egg(s) warm and safe.

More good news!

Liberty produced an egg on Saturday morning ...

Which means that both nests will always have some activity when we look in on the website :)

When I checked the nests today they were both experiencing snow, here is Liberty early this morning ...

and here is her partner Freedom after they has changed over and Liberty had gone off for a break ...

Lipstick and Guy (50 miles away) are experiencing the same weather.

Here's Lipstick fast asleep ...

and then Guy took over the egg-sitting duties ...

Poor eagles are having it rough, but at least they have their own feather duvets :D

That's a wonderful photo Michelle, such a beautiful Eagle :love5:

I love how we have such a close camera on Liberty and Freedoms nest this year. I caught this shot from the same camera yesterday just as the sun was going down, I think this is Freedom ...

The low sun changed all the colours of the nest.

Those magnificent wings are glorious to see

Its been fairly quiet on both nests today when I've checked on them. All four of the parents-to-be have been taking their turns at sitting on the egg(s).

Thought I'd share these two clips of Lipstick and Guy trying to control the sticks ....

Indeed, the new cams are an improvement.

They are ready for more eggs.

A second egg has been laid by Liberty.
She's so clever :bravo1: no fuss from Liberty! That's a great video to watch Michelle, thanks for posting.

Is there to be a naming ceremony for the new arrivals?
Ooo yes! The first season Michelle and I watched we called Liberty and Freedoms two eagles SOAP and CHAT (our old forum name) ... at that time we were just watching the one nest.
The following year (from what I remember) sadly Liberty and Freedom didn't have any eggs, but we had also started watching Lipstick and Guy who had two eaglets which we named PEACHES and HERB.
Last year we named Liberty and Freedoms eaglet FLUFF ... the name just came naturally as he was like a little ball of fluff for a few weeks. Meanwhile Lipstick and Guy had three eagles which we named CURLY, LARRY and MO.

So I wonder what we will call this years eaglets? all suggestions will be more than welcome :D

This was Liberty and Freedom yesterday.

Liberty is on the nest looking across to her sweetheart Freedom who is in a far off tree. Hope you can see him in the distance below? ... if you look at the two thick branches which the nest is resting on, you can see Freedom in the distance between them ... hopefully.

Liberty was also having a bad-hair day due to the rain ...

In the other nest, here is Lipstick fast asleep keeping her egg(s) warm and protected ...

I love this scene at night , it puts me in mind of an enchanted wood

The stick fun continued with Lipstick trying out her juggling skills again ....

It's Sunday morning and the Dads are egg-sitting.

Freedom looks literally 'on top of the world'. What a fantastic view from this nest...

I'm always struck by how serene the Eagles look as they sit on the eggs, complete contentment.

Meanwhile over in the other nest. (Guy and Lipstick)

A brave Starling dared to encroach on the nest, but after being given the 'death stare' by Guy it soon flew off ..
