Sommersby (1993) with Richard Gere and Jodie Foster.
According to the credits it is based on a French film called The Return of Martin Guerre but it also reminds me strongly of a British film I saw years ago called Libel which starred Dirk Bogarde.

Horrible, awful - but I need something bad to balance out all the good tv series that I watch. So I rather watch a bad movie than a bad tv series.
It's one thing or another.

I watched The Graduate for the first time this week and I agree, it's a great film on so many levels. I didn't expect there to be some real laugh out loud moments as well as the great drama.

If you ever get the chance you should watch The Return of Martin Guerre, it's a very good film. I've not heard of Libel before but you're piqued my interest so I'm going to try and get a copy to watch.

Today, I watched It's My Turn (1980). I've wanted to see this film for decades now because I love the theme song sung by Diana Ross and I've always been curious to see what it was about. It was absolute total rubbish, such a disappointment.

Jesus Christ Superstar (1973)
Two films that could both be described as Easter musicals but very different from each other.
In the documentary on the JCS DVD lyricist Tim Rice says that he would have preferred that the filmmakers had adopted a more realistic approach and I have to say I agree. As it stands, taken literally the film is about a troupe of actors who take a bus to the desert where they put on a production of Jesus Christ Superstar for no one. The weirdest part is at the end when they get back on the bus and Ted Neeley (Jesus) is nowhere to be seen, suggesting that maybe they took the performance a little too far.
That said, if you can get past the framing device it is a solid and moving portrayal of the story.
